......and I buried the headstock in the garden

Oops. Its not that I don't think Limelight basses are good, I just think their relicing is probably the most unconvincing ive seen -

Ive been enjoying my YB200 valve amp for a while now. Had it upgraded to the YBA200-2 specs a few months ago including a new quad of JJ KT88’s in the power section. It gives a lovely valvey, bouncy, thick, gritty sound that I love with my 4x10 and flats loaded P bass. Anyway, last week I decided to do a bit of tube rolling with the 2 x 12AX7’s in the pre. It was sporting some Tung Sols but I wanted to give a JJ a try in V2 to take a bit of top away. Relatively easy process and put the amp back in its case and went to power on. The power light blinked then went off – the amp was now dead. I checked various things and it turned out to be the fuse in the sled under where the kettle lead goes in. No biggie, I got a 10 pack from Maplins for about £2 – got home, fitted, fired up fine and played for two hours problem free. Then – last night at rehearsal I set the amp it, flicked it on to warm up and same thing happened – light blinked, fuse blown. Luckily I had the spares on me so quickly replaced the fuse and enjoyed a problem free 4hr rehearsal. We have 2 weeks off now so id like to look properly into why the fuse has popped twice but then been problem free upon replacing. Could it just be bad luck and the first replacement was a dud? Could it be something more sinister inside the amp? One thing I was told at the time of the upgrade was he couldn’t get the KT88’s to within the Traynor recommended bias – they recommend 75mV with a + or – 10mV tolerance but the closest he could get was 90mV. One last thing – I noticed the replacement ones I got from Maplins in a hurry were normal ‘fast blow’ fuses – could it be I need the slow blow version?

I had the 330 head and was surprised at the results of some tube rolling in these. Normally hybrids valves are more for show than anything but I got great results with a high gain Chinese 12AX7 in V1 and a JJ in v2, lovely bit of grind/drive

DR Legend Flats cut for 4 in-a-row headstock and lived on my P bass for about 6 minutes max. The tension was the only thing I didn’t like about them – a little TOO low for me (not TI wet noodle/rubber band but not as taught as my usual Elites). Great thumpy tone and classy looking yellow/gold silks. Come in original box and like new. Yours for £20 delivered in UK

Elites Detroit Flats 45-105 Literally had on for one 2hr rehearsal. Meant to get the lighter 40-100 gauge and as such these are a bit too manly for my weedy hands. Cut for 4 in row headstock with plenty (probably too many) winds. Does have the common Elites thing where the E string speaking length wraps around the tuning post slightly. Comes in original packet £15.00 delivered in UK [s]Ernie Ball Gp III flats Lived on my P bass for around 3hrs. Out of the above id go either Marshall or SC120 amps, cabwise it would have to be the marshall. Barefaced just don't do anything for me, never tried a BFM or Shermann
