1. This one hurts to do but its got to go to make way for my next project. My Squier VM telecaster bass with bloody loud humbucker pickup. Some say (including myself at first) that this bass would only do mud - mine is strung (string thru body BTW) with Roto flats and with the tone on it sounds amazing. Defined and packs a punch like no other bass ive had. A real 'thud' then pleasant ring to the tone. The neck is super fast, really comfortable to play and makes my P bass feel like a baseball bat. Bought a few months ago from Manchester Bass lounge and immediately did the following 'mods' 1) Custom made (BassDoc) white-Black-white guard. Why these basses didnt come with these as standard ill never know. Lokks so much better than the standard Black guard (which ill dig out and also suuply) 2) Added genuine fender bridge cover to give it the proper Telecaster look. 3) Bought a thumb rest to add under the humbucker but never fitted it - will supply also 4) Finally, fitted it with rotosound flats to give it a whackin great wallop to the sound. If desired ill restring it with the DR Fatbeam Rounds i stuck on it whilst waiting for the flats. Will supply a battered hard case that just does the job of protecting the bass. Its covered in Oasis clippings on one side and Beatles clippings on the other. Looks cool but weighs a tone and is battered. Good for storage tho. Poor quaily Iphone pic at the mo but will upload more soon Asking £230 ONO in total collected from Manchester. Will deliver locally if needs be
2. Could be about to take the plunge on an Epiphone Rivoli bass. However, a quick google search suggests its harder to source one than i thought. A few suggestions are a Jack Casady case but im fairly certain the contours and horns are bigger on the Rivoli than the Casady bass. Any Rivoli owners on here have a hardcase? If so where do i need to be looking for one?
3. Excellent. Many thanks lozbass. Sounds like a go-er to me, been after a hollowbody for ages and seeing the video for The Twang - We Are A Crowd reignited my gas. Alex, ill check my spam filter and will probbaly give you a call to discuss this week. Thanks for everyones help
4. cheers molan, gave that a try this morning so hopefully should get a reply soon
5. Anyone had any first hand experience with these beasts? Ive always been a fan of one big cab rather than a stack (i know i know) and this seems really up my street. Being a big Ashdown fan anyway i thought this would be a good (tho not similar) replacement for my current 414t cab. I know there are various opinions on here about mixing driver sizes but i had a 4x10 & 1x15 stack back in the day that sounded brilliant so dont see why this wouldnt sound good. Also anyone know what 10's would be in this (watts and ohms)?
6. Could be very interested in the pair. I might be buyin a BP1510 with damaged 10's so as long as these would go in it theyd be ideal. Will let you know asap
7. Thought id update with an excellent (and very informative) response from Rotosound on this issue:- Unfortunately, whilst many Chinese made basses and guitars are of a good standard these days, many of the factories out there have waivered from the western standards and the Fender Squire is one. The item you refer to as the `bullet` is the `ball` which is located at the ballend of the string. Up until two years ago we used the standard ¼” bass ball which had been the standard in the industry since way back in the 50`s. In fact it is known as the Ernie Ball spec. As with Ernie Ball, we have all our brass balls made in Switzerland as most of the USA producers do. They are the best around. Now, everything went well for many decades until the Chinese started making musical instruments and selling them to the likes of us in the West. For some reason they went metric so the ferrules adopted for string through bodies would only suit a metric ball of 0.237” and not the original larger 0.250” ¼” version. The ferrules were just a tad too small. Being aware of this problem becoming more common some two years ago I changed all our ball sizes to the smaller metric as they would still work with the standard US and western built guitars/basses but more importantly suit all the millions of Chinese made instruments now flooding our markets whose players wanted Rotosound strings on them and nothing less! Like all things in manufacturing, obsolete parts need to be phased out during an interim period to make way for the new. Clearly from what you say, you have three strings with the smaller metric balls and one with the older ¼” which is why you cannot fit the `E` into your Chinese Squire. The set you have has probably been in stock some time now as we rarely ever get our players mention this problem anymore. Mind you flatwounds are not a quick seller and nothing like roundwounds. As a large company Paul we certainly cannot make `specials` or custom strings as these are made in their thousands every day on state of the art machines using standard stocked materials. We do not sell direct to the public either, only the trade through dealers, shops and the like. So, this is what I will do to help you. If you give me your address I will send you out a 105 `E` string with our compliments which will obviously have the smaller metric ball attached and will fit the bill. Excellent customer service from Rotosound i think!
8. Brill, cheers for the offer mate. Doubt itll be sorted so quick but thanks anyway. While your there tell them they have a few emails waiting about the used rivoli they have
9. Will do. Being in Manchester its a bit of a trek unless i can pursuade Mrs Pow for a day out in Camden, so could really do with shipping
10. Ive been using the above strings for a while (recently been messing with Picato's however). A new problem ive encountered tho is that on my Squire Telebass (string thru body) the E strings bullet is too big to fit through the ferrule on the back of the body. All the other strings fit through fine its literally just the E string. I dont really want to be dropping a gauge just to fit the E string. Anyone know if its possible to take a ball end off one of my old sets G, D or A and fit it to my new E string? The G, D and A all fit fine its just the E i have a problem with.
11. Ive seen a used bass on the bass gallery website that im very interested in, I have emailed them to see if they offer shipping within UK and had no response. Ive tried several phone calls but cant seem to get an answer. I assume they are still trading? Anyone else had any dealings with Bass Gallery?
12. Cheers casapete. Just stuck an order in for my fave picato's
13. 90w combo for the price of a set of decent strings?
14. No cheap combo love?
15. Random trade thoughts but would take another Ashdown Bassometer in trade/part ex
16. Got this 90watt combo off 2x18 on here and its got a cracking sound for a small old combo. Really quite bassy when the 'Deep' button is engaged. Easily loud enough for decent sized rehearsal room or small boozer gigs (ideal 'first' amp for a kid looking to upgrade from a 10w 'part of the package' amp. Bit battered and bruised with a few of the push buttons cracked but still all fully working. Reason for sale is i bought this when i had a big old valve rig and needed something smaller for the Dog & Duck - have downsized now so this is just an ornament. Looks exactly like this one... http://www.ebay.co.u...=item43afdf070f (not mine BTW) but will get some actual pics up if theres any interest. £30 ONO Collection from Didsbury, Manchester or can deliver locally. Cheers, Paul
17. Traded my black one in (similar to Andy Bell's but reissue) for my tele bass. Great range of sounds and sounds mean with flats using the 'bass setting' through a valve rig. Traded it in at Manchester Bass Lounge and i believe its still for sale on their website
18. Probably gonna pull this now. Only offer recieved was £150 on ebay which is nowhere near enough. Ill still consider trades for a rivoli (reissue) or a 51 RI p bass in sunburst but dont want to keep bumping. 2000 views n no offers, guess this shows the current economical climate is biting hard. Some major bargains on here at the mo
19. Heard this rig a few times and can vouch for its sound! What you movin onto Trev? Never thought id see you part with the Hartke P.S Just noticed the Bison is goin too, big clear out?
20. Just remember to leave it on stand-by as soon as you get there to let the valves warm up properly. Cant beat the sound of a nice warm valve! When im using my sound city at gigs i often get the early, set my rig up andc just leave it on stand by while i have a few drinks and wait for the band to arrive, by the time i hit the first note its usually been on for an hour (probbaly overkill but sounds immense!)
21. This is my all time dream amp!
22. BUMP. Still consider trades for Rivoli or similar semi. Can deliver local and considering offers of £300 +
23. An epiphone rivoli in sunburst. SIngle pickup version and even maybe the 90's reissues. All because i saw Baz Fratelli playing one in the Twang video for ''We're A Crowd'' and it looked fookin amazin!
24. Fitted the amp feet at weekend and fired it up through my 4x10 with my flats loaded telebass - EPIC. Tempted to keep now but one final bump. Offers in excess of £300ish with delivery within 50 miles anyone?
