1. Cheers for the help. I did consider switchin out the pre-amp valves for something less gainy but had also read lots of comments elsewhere on the SC's 'unique' eq so i think ill have a play with that first. My settings are usually (as you look at the amp front). Volume about 1-2oclock, Bass at 3o'clock, Mid at 1 - 2 oclock and treble on about 12'oclock. I use the normal input as opposed to brilliant and leave the presence at 12'oclock too. Ill try and turn them all down equally and boost the volume a little and see if that helps. Ive always been crap at eq'ing (even on solid states), you'd think id have the hang of it by now but like i say i believe the SC is a different beast so my 'usual' amp settings may not apply to SC
2. My project P bass faker on display in the studio last night
3. Very tempted by the VBC 4x12, this may be what i need to get more clean headroom from my Sound City 120 before the valve fuzz kicks in. Ill need to move some gear around but as soon as i do ill get in touch
4. Any chance a mod can move this to the amps section for a cack handed valve newbie please?
5. Last night at rehearsal we played a little louder than usual, not thrash but just a little cranked. I run my Sound City 120 through a fender bassman 2x15 and last night was using my flats loaded P bass. I had the volume at about half way and obviously got the usual valve 'fuzz' or break-up. I knew id get this but to think i was getting loads of it at only half volume (i say only but i know this is pretty loud). It has recently come back from Dave Lunt who gave it a full service, replaced some caps and a pre-amp valve. The valve was a like for like replacement. MY question is do SC's always break up at this kind of level and is there anything i can do to get it a little clearer at this level. Dont get me wrong, i love the valve break-up and fuzz but would just like a little more clean headroom before getting all down and dirty. Could it be i need to look at my cab? Would 2 15's be making my ampo work harder (as in with say a 6x10 would i get more 'volume' without cranking the amp so high?)
6. Look to cash in the Bison (maybe about £400 with its hard case), bank most of the dosh then keep my eye out for a used Squire VM tele bass
7. Over Xmas this GAS decision has come back. To the point now where im thinking of just doing it. The bison has all the reciepts from its set ups, fret dresses etc since ive had it. Plus ive got a Hiscox case for it so i would say in total i would want around £400 for it, this should leave me with enough to source a second hand Squire TB, get a parchment p/guard for it from Bassdoc and fit the relevant bridge cover. Hmmmmm should i sleep on it?
8. Cool, thanks for that Monckyman. Im over at the outlaws until late next week but will get in touch when im back.
9. Im thinking about getting some castors fitted to my 2x15. Not sure where ill take it to do this but hopefully ill find somewhere local. My main question is do people notice a difference in stage sound at all? Im slightly concerned that having my cab raised will loose some of the juicy rumble from it. What castors do people recomend? Finally does anyone know of anywhere in the North West that fits them seeing my DIY skills end and fitting new p bass pups!
10. Which model did you go for ahpook? Im gonna be ordering another of the classic #2's in black this week for my P bass
11. Haha of course i meant you Oli! So effectively i had the lead plugged into the cab socket on the back of the amp but not had the other end attached to anything then that wouldve been bad - as opposed to basically having the amp completely unattached?
12. Im taking my SC in for a full service soon but as it hadnt been fired up for a few weeks i thought id give it a blast this weekend. I set it up in the spare room and flicked it onto stand by while i had a brew and let the valves all warm. Came back in, plugged the bass in and flicked on the power......nothing happened, no noise, no nothing. I looked in and all the EL34's were glowing niceley....i couldnt fathom out what was wrong. Then i checked the back......id put the jack lead for the cab into the Effects Loop input and not the Cabs socket. I quickly switched it off (even tho im a valve newbie i know never to turn on an amp with no load). Anyway, i re-connected the lead correctly and tentively switched it all back on. The amp is working fine now but having had it on standby with no load for a good 20 mins im wondering what damage i could have done to it? Its going in for a service soon and i may well be taking up Mr Foxton on a great offer of some EL34's but just wondering what damage i could have done to the amp
13. [sup]i want that bass!!!! That is stunning[/sup]
14. http://www.bearstraps.com/ Mine was £40 and compared to the more expensive El Dorado straps are exeptional quality. I opted for a Classic #2, sent my specs through and the strap arrived within 48 hrs. Apparently he supplies quite a few big names too, Noel Gallagher had a set of 10 classic #1's made for his tour according to Rupert
15. Perhaps try a more 'smiley face' eq setting? Boost the bass and mids and maybe drop the far end off a bit. From what youve said there it seems your leaving bass and mids flat and boosting treble so it will sound a little 'light'
16. BUMP. PM's replied to for those interested in parts rather than full thing, neck pocket measurements on way
17. Bobby bought a P bass harness off me, quick payement, good comms, what else do you want from a transcation? Top basschatter.
18. Shame about the bassman i have the matching 2x15 cab and its a great sound with my Sound City, woukld love to try it with a 135 tho

Bought the Carlsbro combo off Will today. Great guy to deal with, lovely bass collection (the hagstrom was particularly nice), lovely cat too Smooth transaction, no problems at all
20.
I'd have had this, but I've just done a deal with an old slapper...
Sounds fun
