The last image shows what the body will look like with the supplied tort guard and thumb rest. Neck pics to follow shortly
2. cheers Oli, in no big rush, wont be goin to the tech till after payday. Ive never even taken the chassis out the box so who knows what lurks in there. Just thought i could at least try chaging the pre-valves as i know they are fairly easy. Will give you a shout re: the valves. Cheers
3. Ive had my B120 for around a year now and its time it went in for a service. I think the tubes are original so im preparing for the news that they need replacing. Ive had a look at the usual suspects (Hot Rox and Watford Valves) to see how much i can get a set for to get fitted should the Mullards be pronounced DOA. I think i might have a little go at changing the pre-amp valves using Mr Foxens build diary as a guide. WHen i look through the top vent i can see a glow from 2 but not the others (maybe in a shielding can?) So i think thats me needing 1 x 12AT7 and 4 x 12AX7 plus obviously the 6 x EL34 power valves (how much glass!!!!) Recently the amp is a little 'farty' at first but once fully warmed up (maybe 10-15 mins of full playing) it does get better. Looking at the amp i dont think the thing has ever even been opened up so it could be an expensive service. Just debating over whether to take it to Dave Lunt (highly recommended but a few horror stories) or David Pye in Preston (seems well recommended and fairly cheap). Anyway, i know there are a few SC guys on here so anyone recommend a good Valve supplier incase the worst happens
4. Before anyone says ''wouldnt a shorter jazz cover just be a P bass one?'' From the pics ive seen the 'wings' (bits with screw holes in) seem to stick out much further on P ones where as jazz seem more rounded
5. Please bare with me while I try and translate my rambling ideas into something remotely followable. Ive currently got a very botched original burns bison bass body. My plan is to get close to the original 1963 style ones that I love. Even tho the body is original the bridge has been replaced with a P bass looking High mass bridge. As such I cant find any bridge covers to fit over it…..However, even tho I cant find any to fit over it neither can I find any that resemble the original Bison shaped covers anyway, a kind of Semi Circular effort. The closest ive found (or dreamed up) would be to take a standard Jazz bridge cover and (somehow) cut through it to ‘shorten’ it. Basically to chop it in half (just after the screw holes) to shorten the ‘tunnel’ as it were. Then I would have something remotely close to the shape I want…. Now also I would have to change the bridge to something more ‘normal’ size (maybe squire P bass bridge) so the modified cover would fit over it. As the cover would be on im not overly worried about their being a few screw holes in the body, as long as the cover DOES cover them. So I guess my two questions are:-

Would it be fairly easy to chop a Jazz cover in half?
How easy is it to replace a bridge (i.e should I take that bit to a tech?)
Hope this makes sense, it does in my head but that really isn’t saying much.
6. Rick'sFine'52's Ric 4005. Its my dream bass, the first thing id buy if i won the lotto would be a 4005. Drooled over them for years, a lovely cherryburst style one and id die a happy man. Id happily trade ALL my gear for one
7. Posted in here before but thought id mention again...if any 'japcrappers' have any tuners like this knockin round in bits boxes id be very happy to swap them for cash. Its for a project im working on and these are proving a very difficult bit to obtain. 8. Greg bought a tooled leather strap off me. Fast payment and good comms. Cheers Greg, enjoy the strap
9. Just wanted to share my dealings with Bear Straps. Having stumbled across their website i instantly fell for ALL of their custom made straps. Each one is built to order by the owner Rupert. I enquired about sizes etc and was told ''tell me what you want, ill make it and have it with you in a day''. I duly decided what style i wanted and sent my specs across. The same day he replied saying he'd get to work straight away and emailed me a paypal link to sort payement out on. He kept me informed throughout. A day later it arrived by recorded delivery and WOW. Its a strap for life! Quality leather (smells amazing) and so much attention to detail, a real craftmans piece for very little money. To say im impressed is an understatement. The comfort, looks and quality really are top class. It looks absolutely amazing on my Bison and has made me fall in love with the bass all over again. Im in no way associated or anything with Ruper or Bear Straps I just like to recomend and compliment when i recieve great service and quality goods. If i'd paid twice as much for the strap id still be as happy. Will post pics soon
10. That looks amazin Burrito, just the amount of wear on it that i would love to re-create on my p-bass
11. My Burns Bison. Had a gas attack the other week and nearly binned it off for a Squier Tele bass but came to my senses!
12. Ive tried the 500w OTB and a Hartke HA5500. In my opinion the Hartke is better. As the other poster mentioned the OTB has one sound (for me think a bee stuck in an empty ale can and a microphone over the hole) really poor attempt at trying to mimic a valve amp. The Hartke however has many options and with the valve option on the pre-amp/gain you can get a really warm punchy sound
13. Another bump before it gets consigned to my in-house knock about bass. Shame really as it looks lovely
14.
I'd be curious to compare it to an all-tube. In the clips it sounds very warm.
If you have the back to cope with the weight, a valve amp generally wipes the floor with a terror bass
15. Will listen to any swap offers for a P bass chrome pickup cover and/or 51 p bass/tele bass bridge cover
16. Shaun bought a Wizard Trad P pickup off me. Completely hassle free and smooth transaction. Hope you enjoy them as much as i did
17. Purely out of interest how does the amp compare size-wise to the 120's?
