NBD! Tobacco Sunburst Sire V5. Looks and Sounds killer!
  4. Here's my Harley Benton JB-75NA which I've modded quite a bit over the year. Its a great bass although a little on the heavy side although most of the weight is in the body! It weighs 10.8lb in its current form. The mod list includes (In order) Gotoh GB640 Reso-lite tuners, full copper shield, John East J-Tone preamp, Dimarzio Area-J pickups and the Gotoh 201B-4 Bridge in Chrome. All the parts were 2nd hand. My plan for this year is to refinish the body in Candy Apple Red with matching headstock.
  5. So I took up learning the bass at the beginning of 2024. This past years learning the bass has been thoroughly enjoyable. My dad was a bass player, with his claim to fame being he played in a band in the 60's called the Boulevards with Tony Clarkin of Magnum. With learning the bass, comes with going on a musical journey and listening to a lot of Music. I've created a playlist of the Music I've found myself listening to the most this year and thought I would share it with you folk. I've gravitated to a lot of Jazz/Jazz fusion.. primarily from Japanese bass players although there are players from the UK, US and Iceland in there. Tomohito Aoki, is who I would say is my Bass hero. He is just a phenomenal player, and Mark King was a wizard from the get go! Here is my playlist. I tried to keep it sized like you would buy a CD. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8qJAXPup4AZcFocwcfDj4VI4_klS5luL&si=u6ia673mGJW6uIAS Take a listen, maybe a song is on there that you've never heard before, but think... gee that sounds quite good! Maybe you have a playlist you would like to share of songs that have been on repeat for 2024! Merry Christmas everyone. All the best for 2025!

Made a couple of mods to my Squier Jazz. Changed the pickguard for a Pearloid one and added a fender High Mass Bridge. She lookin pretty if I do say so myself.
  7. I bought a Sterling SUB bass from John. Really happy with the transaction. Great friendly communication, shipped it to suit my availability and the bass was as described. Would be more than happy to deal with John again in the future!

Just got the new Squire Affinity Active Jazz. Its lovely!
  9. If you can't source one from Andertons, maybe make the cavity a little larger to accommodate the gotoh box? Interested to see how you get on with Andertons. My V8 as the New style like yours.
  10. The upcoming active affinity is the one I've got my eye on https://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/product/240610425188008--squier-affinity-series-active-jazz-bass-indian-laurel-fingerboa
  11. The Squire Sonic's are really good for the money also. I have a Burst Sonic which cost me £155 from GAK. It also has a Jazz spec maple neck as standard and the frets were so good out the box. I changed out the pickguard for gold alu one, shielded it, put some Olympia flats on it and fitted some Jazz knobs.
  12. My Sonic P and CV 60's Jazz Fretless with DiMarzio Model J's
  13. I love my Harley Benton MV-4PJ. 9lb's exact for mine. I'd imagine the straight P variant is probably less! Alder Body, Block and Binded Roasted Maple neck (it is Jazz spec 38mm nut, which suits me due to my smallish hands) with UV dots. The hardware is actually really good. The tuners are decent and the bridge is solid with brass saddles. If i'm honest nothing on it really needs changing for me. The pickups sound good to my ears. Its probably my favourite bass. It was £197 delivered from Thomann!

Here's my Harley Benton JB75 NA Jazz Bass. I picked it up in march and I really love it. She's a heavy girl but I have a nice 3.5" Padded strap to distribute the weight. I've done a few upgrades to it since I've had it and I'm happy with where it is now. I just want to change the scratch guard for a B/W/B one and she will be finished. I've fitted Gotoh GB640 Reso-lite tuning heads, Dimarzio Area J's and a John East J-Tone preamp and Schaller style strap locks. I've also done the shielding, and grounding on it too. Strung with Dunlop Marcus Millers Stainless Steels.
  16. I'll take the Gotoh please. PM Incoming
  17. My smallish family L > R Harley Benton JB-75NA Harley Benton MV-4PJ Squier Sonic P Bass Sire Marcu Miller M2
  18. Thats a lovely bass! But i would be kinda inclined to agree as yours looks pretty much exactly like mine! I haven't made any changes except for the scratchplate. For £150 they are a killer instrument. Fretwork was great on mine, and nice low action. Pickups sounded decent considering the cost of the instrument. I just put some cheap flats on mine and I love how it feels to play
  19. I recently picked up these two basses. Sire M2 in Trans Blue Harley Benton MV-PJ4 in Daphne Blue
  20. One of my Fav's from Tomohito is a Track called Dr.Stop
  21. Thanks for the welcome all! Yeah i guess I should seeing as this is a forum about basses I have two basses, First - Harley Benton JB-75 NA. Really awesome bass for the money. Bit of heft on this one mind! Second is My Squier Sonic Precision in two tone Sunburst. I liked this one as it has a Jazz profile neck, which suits my smallish hands better, Sitting next to my Dads Fender Precision. I think this is the American Special? It says American Special on the back of the headstock and has the 60th Special Anniversary neck plate.

  23. Hi All, I decided to learn the bass in January and have been enjoying it very much. I always wanted to be a Drummer when I was a kid, but it never happened, so now at the age of 42 I decided to take up the bass! My old man was a bassist who no longer plays, due to old age and having MS, but still has his basses (Olympic White USA Fender Jazz, and an American Special Sunburst Fender Precision. He offers me tips and advice when I go and see him every week. I'm a big fan of the likes of Mark King, Marcus Miller, Scott Ambush, Mitsuru Sutoh, Tesuo Sakurai, but my real Hero is Tomohito Aoki. Maybe one day I'll own an Atelia Z bass. I look forward to learning from and contributing to the forum. Cheers!
