I think hes one of the best bassists about...hes been a huge influence on me!

And its nice to see a decent bassist that doesnt just stand by his amp all the way through a show!
You right, still rather listen to Percy Jones though.

  2. Spoke to my tutor about Flea.....he reckons he's a one trick pony and if he had to play Jazz or something he wouldn't have a scooby.

Personally I can't stand him because whenever someone choses a fantasy band line up it's always him or Mark King because it's the only bassists they can think of. :)

  3.
Have been thinking about getting a Harley Benton Beat Bass http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_beatbass.htm
and the HARLEY BENTON HBP90BK http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_hbp...scale_ebass.htm as I think the Beatbass would sound awesome with some Tapewounds on it and the HBP90BK has an awesome vintage look and would probably be killer with some upgraded pickups , and the shortscale would give a good old school thump to the sound (once pick ups upgraded) Any one owned either of these basses? Any thoughts , suggestions etc . All comments welcome
I'm planning on buying the fretless

Really?...i'm goona have to google that one!

'he's called Oliver Thomspon so it looks like your bang on the money....good call

That's just life with or without a bass. They do it to **** you off

  6. Just finished watching Guy Pratt playing with Bryan Ferry on the BBC session on BBC4.

I don't like Dylan much but I have to say Mr Ferry has a knack of doing excellent cover versions.

Anyway, did anyone else see it as Guy was playing a beautiful looking bass which I couldn't identify...any ideas anyone?

I think it may have been a Status Vintage GP or something similar

  7.
I liked the Lydia videos, but I have to go with my friend Antonella Mazza...

Then again, you can't beat Marcus Miller for cool!
Look at the face...is this a man?

  8.
You're correct, Levin was still fretting - I think I read in another interview that Marotta was kneeling in front of him so you can imagine how that must have looked...!

Have you heard the story about the nappies and the track 'Don't Give Up'?
err no

  9.
I personally wasn't interested in Motown until I learned Gladys Knight & the Pips' version of "I Heard It Through the Grapevine." It took a while to adapt to the unfamiliar rhythm, but once I got it, I was hooked. Then finding out how elusive Jamerson's tone is was the icing on the cake.

If you can read, and I can find the track on the 'net, I'll scan in the first page for you and you can have a go if you want.

I'll understand if you tell me to f*** off.

    I Wouldn't do that it's rude

Nah you can post it if you like. I have my hands full learning tother things at present mind :)

    Check it out! Beastly!
Looks like a Sitar. Who can play it?......Mr Fantastic with his amazing stretching fingers ?

  11.
It was actually Jerry Marotta that played that part by drumming on Levin's bass strings - Levin invented the 'Funk Fingers' later in order to reproduce that part live...

    More about Funk Fingers
Really :) I knew it had something to do with Jerry Marotta playing on a bass but i had images of him drumming and Tony fretting for some reason. It just sounds too funky to be played by a drummer hitting some strings but I wasn't there so I don't know

Having just googled this the hi-hat on the track itself appear to have been played by one Mr S Copeland!
