For a load like that then iGig is the way to go.Surprisingly rugged and IME infinitely better than Mono which I have to say is a more comfortable case to lug around. For durability and protection you won't beat iGig. Mine has taken serious abuse over the years and its still almost perfect. The wear on stitching and seams is minimal and the zip is as sturdy as I've come across. Having said all that, if you just need a basic bag to carry a bass, leads, tuner and string cleaner when something like a mid level rockcase is fine.

I think the European Spectors are within your budget. They'll give you exactly what you're looking for.

Mxr bass blowtorch. Nice EQ section along with what you are looking for.
I've owned a BBG4AII since 2000 and it's an amazing bass. I had to order it at the time as it was a non stock model, and you don't see many of this particular model in the UK - most of the ones I have seen for sale are in mainland Europe and the USA. The engineer recording it at a local studio was enthusing about it recently, as it had - in his opinion, such a great tone compared to a lot of the stuff he records. It won't (obviously) compete with a custom bass costing thousands, but for the money - I think they are incredible value - and the basic models are excellent instruments for learners. Why anyone buys a Squier when you can pick up a Yamaha RBX new for £140 I can't fathom, beyond of course the issue of image/brand. I actually managed to buy a 'spare' BBG4AII, in the exactly the colour I wanted - Amberburst, on eBay for £116 recently, and it was immaculate. I couldn't believe I won it for the price, but it was the best bargain I've ever had on eBay. BC member '4 string thing' was selling a blue/green one on here recently and whoever got that will have had themselves a bargain too. A
The amberburst is probably my favourite bass ever. Simply gorgeous. Yamaha don't do bad basses. Simples. Re Lomenzo. I've seen him live a few times in different bands and he never used a BB on any of those occasions.

If you're happy with it hold on to it. If you need cash then sell one of the Sandberg basics but tbh at the moment you probably won't get a decent price.
It will gain awareness soon, then it's... Aye. Isn't it due this August? Get the factor 5,000,000 out. There's a scorchin a comin!
350 would get you a decent 300 watt combo. Id be looking at Trace Elliot or some of the Ashdown abm combos. Keep an eye out in the for sale section. A gem usually pops up every so often.

RMS is the only one you need to keep an eye on. Basically its the most accurate rating of the cabs power handling capability. Continuous is sometimes referred to as peak power. Generally it refers to the upper limit of what the cab can tolerate.
You have both Marshall and Ampeg 8x10's Do you have a large house and a road crew to do the work. That's a lot of cabs for one man. I'm quite happy to store one for you. thanks Dave
The joy of playing in a few bands is that you can leave gear scattered across the county.

Prefer mine to my ampeg to be honest. Not the heaviest compared to some of the other options.
-
Aye Yamaha make great instruments. Really top notch at every price point.

Came across that last week. We got a mention out of the blue. As far as I know its just a weekly blog some guy writes. Dunno if its got any ties to the label.
I had another practice with the reggae/hip hop/whatever band last night. I think I might be thinking about it too much. When i'm thinking about tempo, I tend to hold back, and in the end i'm slowing down. When I forget about it and just play, it stays at a constant tempo. ARRGH!!!
I think thats something that happens to us all lad.
Now this is the right kinda style! I'll drop him a message after work
Sound. Kens a top bloke and very easy to work with. Its worth getting his 2p either way.

Yes, but no more so than the rest of the group. Everyone should know what the timing of the song is. Its often left to the drummer to do it so everyone else doesnt have to work as hard on getting things right. Of course the better drummers can easily switch between tempos and make it sound like they've messed up the timing but usually if its properly analysed that misunderstanding dosent pop up.
Even the best guitars and basses cost peanuts when compared to the best orchestral instruments (for example). It's all relative, YMMV, IMHO and so on and so forth.
Aye that is true lad. Theres also the fact that most of the punters cant tell the difference between most of them but thats really another topic aint it. I recently asked a couple who booked me to play at they're wedding ceremony if they had a preference between the Lorenzo I mentioned earlier and my Ramirez. Of course they preferred the Lorenzo. Sods law I suppose

http://www.artofkencoleman.com/ Mate of mine. does some epic work on the cheaper side of things. Sterling to euro conversion should also help lower the cost.

Carrying on from an older thread that popped up recently regarding an old Jap Vox bass..... Anyways I got to thinking about instruments that sound really great but cost next to nothing when compared to some of the major brands. As an example, I've a really cheap acoustic that I bought on a whim about ten years ago. It's a Lorenzo F1 and cost about 90 euro at the time. This thing sounds great, certainly better than a lot of the lower spec Tak's, Yamahas etc. The construction is flawless and theres some quality woods used. A big plus for me was that it wasn't caked in lacquer and is getting better with age as the top starts to open up, The only downside was the bridge which was a bit too high for my liking. Easily sorted though. Another example would be my first bass, a Hohner LX90B. IMO, afine instrument that was punching well above its IR£180ish pricetag. The newer Squier basses and guitars usually get good reviews and theres always a few old reliable brands like Samick and Washburn to choose from. The recent Sue Ryder Pbass thread is another indication of what can be achieved on a budget. Anyone else have any hidden gems?

Cheers

I have one that is now quite genuinely buried in North Watford Cemetery. Long story but it was a musician who died. In terms of the bass; A lot of bang for your buck I recall, but the body was heavy as hell

I had one of those for my first bass! And loved it. Served me well in my first 2 years of gigging - sold it for £100 IIRC. The knobs look like the original ones to me - I always thought they reminded me of Gibson Black Speed type knobs:

Here's what's left of mine... I'm still considering putting it back together as I have most of the parts off it in a box (machine heads, electrics, pick ups, nut, neck plate, etc) or I might just make it into an ornament (probably for the shed). As you can see, I've tried defretting it but it's not very smooth. Filled the lines with jointing compound! The screws that held the P/Us in snapped & left a little in the body.
Ah! Blast from the past....... Cheers guys, looks like it was a good guess with the knob selection eh? They really are a great bass. Goes to show what you can get for a few quid.
Mog, those are the stats for the 700RB (the older version), the 700RB-II has more beef.
Cheers lad. Should have spotted that.
Ever wondered how Muse fell apart at that gig...you can't say they didn't know their parts well enough. If you can't hear another instrument...and you rely on him being in the right place all the time ..which granted he should be, but stuff happens and a queue might be missed. If you can't hear him..then you have no idea where he is musically... so couldn't correct a mistake if you wanted to.. you probably wouldn't be too aware of it.. if you can't hear. That is why the Muse train wreck went on for as long as it did.. So, if you can't hear your bass but know where you are in the track that is one thing..but that will not help anyone else, should they forget a cue. And if they can't hear you either, they will not know if you have caught the error or are oblivious..??? Hearing and good monitoring is everything, IMO. and once you have got to that stage..you might as well insist that the stage sound is good and representative. Anything else is just way too slack in standards. Why should you expect the sound to be great out front if he can't get the monitor sound any good. there may be excuses and circumstance, but assuming isn't a good place to start, IMO.
With the stuff we play its not necessary tbh. Its just basic stoner/blues rock originals. Ques are all based on timing. The two guitarists rely on myself and the drummer to dictate the basis of each tune and once the drummer can hear me we are fine. If the guitarists decide to improvise a few extra bars they'll give the nod as to when they'll be coming back in. Its the same for all of us. Interband communication on stage is just as effective IME. Regarding sound engineers I've very rarely met a bad one. There's so few venues over here that you get to know most of the good engineers. They've a job to do and being an asshole gets you nowhere. I keep a record of our settings for each venue we've played in. The amps are dialed in before we load the motor so we just have to set up when we get to the venue and let the engineer just ring in the rig. Those guys really appreciate everything you can do to make their nights work less taxing and we are regularly praised by engineers for being so easy to deal with. A few kind words for him or her before the encore and a thank you pint or coffee after your set gets you a long way. Look after the engineer and they'll look after you.
-
I used to get fairly pissed off at it but came to the conclusion that once the sound out front is good and the drummer can hear the bass then its ok. I know my lines well enough to be able to get through a show without hearing the bass all the time.

The head is rated: 225 watts @ 8ohm and 380 watts @ 4ohm. the bab is 8ohm so the output will be 225 watts. Thats a lot of juice if you play with people who dont play loud for the sake of it. Both those loads DO NOT include the output from the 75 watt amp. Heres a link to the manual. It explains the bi-amp thingy better than I ever could.
