Very nice heads. Great for rock in particular. Seems like a lot of rig for a good price IMO. Volume shouldn't be a problem and you can always add an extra cab if needed in the future.

From just having a look at your gear list I'd suggest throwing a set of flats on the Attitude and opening up that neck pup, should sound great with acoustic guitars. I also suggest you tell the band leader that the you'll use an acoustic bass if the vocalist uses a Neuman TLM67 mic.

These are actually really nice to play. Very usable in a lot of situations. A mate uses one in a Doom Metal band tuned to C and it handles it no problem. My only gripe is the naff graphics.
So i was thinking about getting one of these. Im still worried about the 250 watts thing. Im using hartke lh500 at the moment, which has always been great through a single 8 ohm 15" cab. Id be using it mostly in small venues(anyone in dublin think, sweeneys, mercantile, wheelans etc) playing with anything from a 3 piece to a 9-10 piece with a horn section, keys etc. Also it might be a clean signal or quite dubby with a good few pedals, depending on the act. I would like to get it with the two 1x12 ebs classic cabs, id prefer 2 2x10's but there so damn expensive it seems for anything good. Do you think it would work for me?
I've gigged in all of the above with a 150 watt 1x15 Trace Elliot combo with no problems. The Merc is a horrible place for sucking your tone so keep that in mind. I've only used my LH500 in Whelans with an 8x10 and it was ridiculously loud, I only got the volume knob to just under 1. The EBS should have no bother in them to be honest. Its a superb little head.

Hey Jude always went down a storm for us. Great song for getting the crowd involved.

What is it with Flying V basses? Utter nonesense IMO. The new/original Yamaha body shape is a real let down.

Aye thats the way it should be. If you can inform both parties of all gigs as soon as they're booked to avoid double booking. Also try to avoid playing with both bands on the same day as fatigue can set in. Remember to book yourself some time off too. Playing live 4 or 5 times a week can get old quickly.

This is all getting very zen.......................

Tough one to answer really. To answer very basically Id have to say that pop music becomes credible when it is well received by the general public and is as a result a commercial success. Regarding authenticity I reckon that if a song or more usually artist has a unique feature then it or they are to some degree authentic. The problem is that once an authentic idea is seen as a commercial success it is replicated to death therefore rendering it mainstream. Personally, and this is probably not what you are looking for, I reckon there has been an increase in the number of credible vocalists in pop music since it was realised that talented singers could actually shift units, thankfully bringing an end to drivel from the likes of Spears and Westlife.

Metal bassists - What sort of tones are you using?
Mog replied to spiderjazz's topic in Bass Guitars
Since we got another guitarist in I've changed my tone to something similar to Rex Browns. Its probably a little more scooped than what he uses but I've had great feedback at every show since changing. All Im using is Spector basses with fresh blue steels. A mxr m80 to add some very slight grit and a Hartke LH 500 with the EQ set to 5 across the board. In the studio I cut the grit from the mxr and re amp the bass signal into a jcm 900 for the dirt and blend the signals. I really can't stress how great Spector basses are for this type of tone. They're like warwicks on steroids. And their customer service is amazing. (unlike warwick which is non existent) -
Led zeppelin and black sabbath just dont do anything for me !
Mog replied to gub's topic in General Discussion
I feel like the odd man out so many times in our rehersals as the rest of the guys are all into led zeppelin and sabbath and well ...i am not ! am i just being paranoid ? i really dont know , i feel like the black dog of the band !
Nothing wrong with that. Why do you feel compelled to like them? -
Still have my Hohner LX 90B pbass copy. Sounds better than most Mexican Fenders.

A secondhand Yamaha RBX should tick all the boxes. One of the passive ones obviously.
-
Just play what you'd normally play. Try playing across the neck rather than along it when the songs allow. This for me is the point of extended range instruments.
-
There's a few that spring to mind. Nate Mendel. Dee Murray. Mike Inez. Jack Bessant. Gerry McAvoy. Greg Ridley. Jim Creeggan. Chris Kosnik.

Is the pub gig advertised yet? If not a quick word with the landlord might sort it. You could offer to play on another night for free to make up for it. If the wedding pays X4 the pub gig ye'll still be up money.

Didnt see this originally but would have made the same suggestion. I cant understand why Glockenklang aren't sweeping everything else aside. Their gear is simply amazballs (as the kids would say).
Be careful though...if you spend a lot of time practising what you feel you are best at,it becomes very easy to become stagnant and not see any particular improvement because you are not pushing yourself and learning anything new. Sure, you play what you enjoy but improvement comes from practising new material that is currently beyond you, either musically, technically, harmonically or theoretically.
Exactly what I should have said myself. Cheers Doddy.

I still reckon the MXR blowtorch is what would do it for you. Or have you considered running two rigs and running fx through one?
Cheers man, yeah i have looked around, but i will continue the search ! you'd think being at university would open doors, seemingly not haha!
Ya would wouldn't ya. Going back to Uni has closed most of mine........ Try some local jam sessions or maybe organise one in your local on a quiet night.
Thats not a bad sound I think I'd want some more of the clean bass in the mix. Sounds like it could get lost with my guitarist pretty easily.
Last time I was at a Nightwish gig the bass was lost in the mix. Great tone on its own but its easily swamped.
Hey guys this is quite simple & straight-forward really, ever get the feeling you're a terrible musician haha? For the 4 years i have been playing bass, i do get the feeling I am just not as good as i should be. Despite the practicing of new techniques etc, I have little confidence in myself when it comes how good i believe myself to be, whether its a lack of versatility or crispness. I was just wondering, does anybody else get this same feeling? It can be rather demoralising!! Cheers
Happens a lot personally speaking. It can be viewed as a bad trait but I prefer to look at as a willingness to constantly improve. The thing about practice is that it will pay off in the long run. Try not to focus so much on what you can't do and practice what you feel you are best at, this can be a means to developing your own style. (Obviously you should still practice what you find difficult, otherwise practicing would be a waste of time) If I were you I'd try and find a guitarist and drummer who just want to expand their abilities a little by practicing as a group. Its amazing what you can learn from playing with others. Things like versatillity etc will come eventually as you expose yourself (giggidy) to other genres and play with other musicians. Dont get too hung up on it.

Anyone noticed that Thomann are stocking Joyo units and flogging them under the Harley Benton tag.
Were you were aware that Greg Ridley is no longer with us?
Aye. Died around ten years ago AFAIK.
