Vocal effects

TC, Boss (+Roland), Digitech and EH all do reasonably cheap processors. The later pods can be used but are limited.
2. Yea one of the pods has a "Schism" clone in there. Theres about a million and three downloadable settings on the website too. I just use my Ibby phat head on the clean setting with the so called "comp" switch in position two. The extra grit comes from my m-80 which always has about 10% grit blended in. Gets close enough in my book.

Fuzz!
Anyone tried Devi Ever stuff on bass? I bought a Vintage Fuzz Master for guitar but it doesn't suit my delicate jazz chords.
Used lots of her pedals. They dont take kindly to active electronics. Best of the lot is the Hyperion. The only one currently on the board is a Ruby prototype that only gets used with the wah for a NIB tone. Other than that its fairly useless. For my Fuzz tones I just use a Bass Blowtorch driven by a M-80's distortion channel. Works fine.
4. Have you any pics of the back panel handy? Seeing this would lead to a quick definate answer. I'm presuming its 300 watts @ 4 ohms and the internal load is 8 ohms so basically you can connect another 8 ohm cab. Personally I wouldn't drop below a cab rated 150-200 watts but anything lower will be ok as long as you dont drive it too hard.
5. Wouldn't a fender TBX do something similar? May be worth looking into.
6. Yea I dabble a bit, or at least I used to. The queen hates the thing so it doesnt get played much. Like me she's used to hearing it in a traditional Irish setting and is overexposed. Theres only so much treble she can take.............
7.
When will house Sound "Engineers" learn that the PA is for vocals, and maybe the drums. Bass and guitar amps can fill the space adequately enough ta very much. Why else can a bassist justify running that 200/300/400/600w amp, if it's not to "fill the space"? Why not just run a DI into the PA, and save yourself the expense and backache? Cos big bass amps, like big guitar amps SOUND GOOD.
No, big amps sound good when used in an appropriate venue and only after the tech has removed all the unwanted crap. Have you ever checked a rig in an 800-1000 capacity venue when it was empty? I can guarantee the last thing you say is "jesus what an epic sound ".
8. JCM 800 and a tube screamer. Heavy as.......
9. Cheap option? Hartke LH500 or maybe an SVP (usually around the £250-350 mark)
10. http://www.strings.i...Guitar-Strings/ 3 sets in stock (about halfway down the page, right under the halfwounds). £33ish plus postage.
11. It wont do any damage. How good will it sound? Depends on the amp and what you're after really. Josh Homme gets some killer stoner tones out of bass gear.
12.
It's been proven by another thread over on TalkBass that in a mix a all that really matters is the pickups and the electrics and then the EQ'ing. Things like build quality and wood do come into it but in a mix? I'm not so sold. My basses are nice, but better sounding than cheaper equivalents. A £60 setup by a pro usually helps things that plays nasty, and most luthiers will sort out dodgy frets for a few quid more.

Yep, I agree totally. If you can get the sound you want, and are playing a bass that works for you, it doesn't matter if the bass is cheap as chips as a chunk of wood and some metal bits. And only other (snooty possibly) bass players in the audience will really take any notice, and maybe not at all if they don't know what you were playing when recording a track.
Cant agree with this at all I'm afraid. Theres to many variables. Eg, the next pocket : sustain, scale length : tension, conductivity of the "metal parts", fretboard construction and stability etc, etc. Upgrading parts can greatly improve a bass. A mate pimped a VMJ with new Barts, Gotoh hardware etc and it sounded great. Surely better than a stock Mex Fender. Would it sound better than a Jap fender with the same upgrades? IMO no because the overall quality of the build is way better.
13. Aye 70 odd lbs aint it? Eden might also be worth a look. And then theres Glock................... http://www.glockenklang.de/en/products/products_bass.htm
14.
It's a long way, you know.
Funnily enough that tune is 100 years old a week from today. (the useless crap I have in my head eh...................)

Bass overdrive...?

I dont think you'll get what you're looking for out of a pedal. Something like an EBS valvedrive might get you in the ballpark but it wont be close. Most of those tones come from running heads very hot.
16. Apologies, lack of sleep is putting me in a [s]mirthful[/s], [s]mirthfull[/s], funny mood.
17.
Haha, do you mind if I ask how much you got yours for?
Of course not lad, it was €1200 with scrappage. In yer English coinage the cab would have worked out at roughly £530.
18. 2x12's only in our band (one of my enforced rules) unless 4x12's are required or are provided in the venue. I prefer minimum stage volume and max FOH feed. Hate the bloody things TBH. Nothing sounds worse than a Marshall Mode 4 hissing and screaming through 4 V 30's. (actually a Marshall MG sounds worse but thats another kettle of kippers). Greenbacks all the way peeps!
19. No they were all out when i got there so I pick one up in TIPPERARY instead.
20. Just picked one up myself. It wouldnt fit in Clio at any angle but it fit nicely across the back seat of my brothers Mazda 6. Might be worth a try if you need the extra space up front some day. Very pleased with mine, IMO as good as the Asian Ampeg tripe thats doing the rounds.
21. Serious kit lad. Personally I wouldn't let it go for under £1900 if it was well looked after. They're upwards of £2500 new at the mo I think. (Any idea what you'd replace it with? I'd imagine its not something that can be easily replicated)
22. Basically they sound epic IMO but the Ashdowns will sound fine too.
23. Nice choice. The HA5500 is a great piece of kit. Are you sticking with the Ashdown cabs? I reckon its a great pairing, theres plenty of low end in the Ashdowns.
24. Used to play a few sets with Widgeon Holland (Texas). Fairly handy blues guitarist. Got too into the showman side of things for my liking though. Jim Kirkpatrick (UK) is a gifted fecker too. Anyone who hasnt seen Petes Steely Dan Tribute should head to a show for Stevie alone. The guy can do serious things with an acoustic.
