Cheers for the replies lads. Its definitely the switch that's gone. I was talking to a mate today and he heard that it was a problem which was common to the first run of the pedal. I reckon a quick email to Ibby will sort it. They should be able to recommend a suitable replacement switch.

Morning all. Spent yesterday evening rummaging through my vast array of pedals only to find that, to my horror, the switch on my beloved Ibby Phat Head has given up the ghost. Does anyone know if these are hard to source and install?

Take it. Keep beer intake to a minimum. By the time ye are halfway through the set the punters should be getting well sauced. Win win situation. Edit-bloody supposed smart phones

I haven't taken an acoustic bass to a session in over 18 months. I just bring the 6 string now which makes it easier if the guitarists are playing in a dropped tuning/using capos etc. If there's just a couple of guitars and a cajon/bongos etc I'll use a 10 watt combo. If there's PA support I'll go straight into that.

What else is plugged into the wall socket? Everything from appliances to amps can add unwanted noise. Fluorescent lighting can also cause noise. Other than that it could be the PSU, an individual pedal or a patch lead(s).

Great basses. Certainly better than a lot of the muck that's around these days. If you see one at a good price go for it.

Which 5-ers are wide at the nut (as well as the bridge)
Mog replied to thepurpleblob's topic in Bass Guitars
Aye yamaha springs to mind. I think some EBMM's have a slow enough taper too. -
Aye. Running a single 8ohm cab will get between 200-300 odd watts out of the head. It should be perfectly fine.
Sounds like you are playing bigger stages that you rig can cover and you need side fills...

Surely if you can't hear yourself no-one else on stage can hear you either.

I don't move around but I'm always been heard by the other band members. If a 410 is ok and an 810 isn't, I'd blame the 810 cab. Maybe you need to eq differently for the 810?

Exactly, so if the OP can't hear himself, no-one else can be hearing him either.
Sorry bucks, had an exam yesterday. The rig is 500 watts, should be more than enough for the majority of clubs. The guitatist/singer and the drummer have a constant monitor feed thats how they can hear the bass lines. I was just wondering if a different cab config would disperse the sound across the stage more evenly and reduce the size of the areas where the bass feed is lacking. As I said it seems to happen with 8x10 and nothing else so as Chris pointed out maybe I should be looking at the cabs in question.
These symptoms can usually be traced to the venue, being caused by room boundary interactions, and changing the speakers would have no effect. All speakers lose volume with respect to distance via the same equation.
Cheers Bill, so its a case of hoping the monitors are ok then.
Turn up or stay within 3 feet of your amp.
Sadly I'm neither of those guys gjones. I've a fairly ok dynamic going with the guitarist/singer who's usually centre stage. The volume settings are based on his needs also. As he's usually tied to the mic its up to me to play stage gimp, hence the movement.

Do you think that "Real" Musicians era is going to end ?
Mog replied to MusicLover20015's topic in General Discussion
I thought so too Nig, but I didn't want to appear presumptuous.
As opposed to assumptive? -
It's not presumptuous if you can back it up, and I think Jake probably can.
Back up the truck chap, I'm not doubting that for a second. I know for a fact that he can offer excellent inside advice and info. I was referring to the comment that most of the posts were from people who didnt have any experience of being a working pro. Whos to say someones post is irrelevent if you dont know what experience they have. I certainly dont know how experienced the majority of members are and therefore when reading their opinions on a given subject try (and fail a lot of the time) to take their opinions as a valuable input. -
'sup lads and lassies? Quick question. I've used an Ampeg 8x10 (US) for a couple of recent gigs but have noticed that once I move about 3ft away from the rig the (audible on-stage) volume drops significantly. If I cross to the opposite side of the stage I get almost nothing at all from the backline. This is never a problem when I run smaller rigs eg. 4x10 or 2x10, depending on the venue. I'm presuming this has something to do with dispersion/acoustics etc. So anyways, I wondering if I use something like a 2x15/4x15/4x10+1x18 etc. for the larger venues would I get the same result, ie. would the sound from the backline drop as quickly?
Well i guess i should say thanks for all the opinions on this topic, and NO i have not been trolling or hiding behind the sofa. I think i have mentioned before that as well as playing bass i also do the tech side, meaning using logic, sampling etc etc. Also i wouldn't mind teaching. Its the Musical career which i want to follow. Also Im not going to university just for the paper as many of you think. Im going because i know i will get taught by some great musicians, i will increase upon my theory even more and more so make those contacts everyone is mentioning. At the end of the day I think that whatever choice I make will be the right one, im not looking to get that mansion or the ferrari. Just a nice lifestyle, be able to stand on my feet and look after my parents when they get older. Thats all i want.
Seems like you answered your own question lad, good luck with it.
A few others have chimed in on one side or another... most voices seem to be coming from those who don't work in the industry. I for one would not attempt to speak advisedly (certainly not to the extent of offering advice) on global economic matters just because I have a bank account, but quite a few chaps seem to think they have a handle on the music industry because they own a bass
Not trying to flame the thread but that one comes across a bit presumptuous lad. -
The X3 should be enough on its own if its set up correctly. Try the Diezel and Mesa sims through the 1996 and 68 Marshall 4x12's using dual tone.
Hi Background Info: Im a music student who is currently at Grade 8 Bass (Rockschool). Im going to apply for university this year and do a Full 3 year music degree in my speciality - Bass. Current: Now i've been told by Loads of people that i shouldnt opt for this career as its pretty much going to die in the next couple of years. I understand that nowadays unlike before musicians were the ones that were recording, now its all being sampled by some guy sitting at a Mac. Session musicians are becoming a thing of the past ? I mean, im not looking for finishing Uni and becoming a famous mega rich star because of my bass skills but I wanted to be playing in maybe big bands, record for artists and if that dosen't work out i dont mind teaching I just wanted to get some views from you guys who are all musicians and what you think about this ? Any advice would be great
Ho ho ho! These ones always get messy. The first thing I'd say is to forget about the words big and recording artists. 90% of expectations will not be met. The majority of work will be (for a while at least) with unheard of acts with grand ideas and/or playing music you dont enjoy. Studio/recording work is becoming a thing of the past. Digital generation has ruined it for a lot of musicians (not just bassists). Live work will always be out there but getting the gig will be down to ability and nothing else. A degree will get you so far but there is no substitution for having a history in the game. 3 years of full time study will leave little opportunity to get out and gig so effectively you will be starting at scratch regarding contacts in the industry when you graduate. You will obviously make some in collage but how far reaching and how much pull they have will be limited to a degree. Money wise its extremely tough in the music game to make a substantial amount. Regardless of what road you go down (performance/teaching/both) what you earn will be dictated by many variables all of which will be outside your control. (Reliability of other musicians/trends in the market/economic stability/location/etc). Having said all that if a degree in Music is what you want then go for it. You'll be what? 23-25ish when you graduate? Plenty of time to get another qualification if you think it wasn't a good choice. -
Ibby SR305? Great bang for buck. For £300 you could probably get a SH SR505 which would get you better electronics, bart pups etc. Nice string spacing too if you need something a little narrower than the norm. I have to disagree with the posts stating that B tension is not important on your first 5. The plain fact is that it is. You wouldnt turn up to a gig with only the treble side of your P pickups working would you.......Same concept applies to a weak B string.

sansamp psa 1 thingy into an svt maybe?

Haven't bothered in years. I keep a set of pre cut Warwick Red Labels in the gigbag along with a spare set of whatever is usually on the bass. If I break a string during a song I just move everything up an octave and kick in the octave pedal to keep the low end. With the precut strings and a power winder I'm ready to go in under a minute. If the other two jam around the end of the song and the intro of the next then the actual time when theres no sound on stage could be around 30 seconds. To prevent defects I just run over everything before I pack up for the gig and again when I get there.

How to get a crunchy sound out of a marshall JCM800?
Mog replied to phoenix555's topic in Amps and Cabs
To a degree, depending on what you add but I reckon all you'll get will be a bland overdrive as modding can be hit and miss. Personally I'd throw a pedal in front of the amp. -
best overdrive/distortion pedal for a Orange Bass Terror 500w?
Mog replied to barricades's topic in Effects
TBH there nothing in those vids that couldn't be replicated with either a bass driver or a m-80. Try to stay away from guitar distortion units especially the metalzone, they're mostly crap on bass in a full band situation. -
Slowly trimming the herd, just 7 left.
I thought Marshalls and EL34s were the byword for crunch..
Na, I stupidly sold one of those beauties a few years back. Natural crunch it dont do. They need something infront of it. -
Just bought a BF Midget so, of course!
Wheres the like button when you want it?
