Yea unplug it when not in use. Aside from saving the battery it will stop you from knocking the thing over if your foot catches the lead. Tone wise it depends on what it can do. Some eq's are boost only some are cut/boost. I really only use mine if I'm going direct or want to remove excessive highs/lows onstage. TBH most of the time I run my basses in passive mode.

My oldest is about 12 years. Planet waves. Still perfect.

Ever been persuaded to buy a bass by a band member?
Mog replied to megallica's topic in General Discussion
If I'm considering two or more basses I'll often run it by the other two guys. They have to live with the tone too. -
Doesn't get much thinner neck wise than an Aerodyne. SH is well within your budget. They go over here for between 380-650 euro.

Use four fingers. The motion I use is: Index, Middle, Ring, Pinky, Ring, Middle> Start over. Its kind of like rolling a coin along your fingers which is a warm up/practice routine i use sometimes. Youtube some of John Myung's stamina techniques too. Theres some good stuff in there.

Do you know any Chippies? The materials needed to build a flightcase should only set you back around £40-50 if you ask for offcuts in your local hardware. Just get the dimensions you need and have someone build it for you. The aluminium guards and handle are easy enough to do yourself. Going down this route means you can build a case with rack features, ie. access to the speaker and power outputs through a hinged rear panel and a removable front panel.

Great heads. We played with Diamond Head a few months back and Eddie was using one of these. Easily one of the cleanest bass tones I've come across. Let us know how you get on with it.

I always run 2 chorus pedals on my board. A bog standard boss for general use and a cheap PSK guitar chorus that only processes the signal from the upper register. This comes in handy if I'm playing chords and tapping the root notes. Other than that I'd maybe go with an Octaver and Wah. Maybe a decent synth too.

Nice one dood. I'll give it a go at the next practice session. Cheers

For Speakers and power amps I'd go with something like Peavey. Especially if ye are going to be playing outdoor gigs. Solid and reliable. Desk wise I usually go with Mackie. Wattage wise I wouldnt go under 1.5k. If transport allows and your desk does 2x2ohm these are the mutts nuts http://www.jblpro.com/catalog/general/Prod...Id=91&MId=3 just add one or two tops or top/mids if desired.

Sortabump!?? Just noticed an oscillating whistle coming through the speakers connected to my LH500 when I was not playing. Very strange. Could it be bad juice going to the head from the power outlet?
yeah, the band with the most members wins just had a telephone blast from a club thats on its 3rd heat of who knows how many, has FIVE bands on tonight with yep you've guessed it 'cheap drinks promos' and the prize for the best band at the end of it all is.... wait for it... £400 i happened to mention it was a scam on their Facebook site f*** OFF!!!!
Thing is, club/pub owners have to make a living too. More pubs go out of business because they run too many beer promos and cant cover the overheads than quiet little boozers with only a few regulars. If the bands want to pay to play thats their call. A chance to play live however is never a bad thing, particularly for newer groups. Its up to the bands to decide how much of a show they put on. If one band puts in more effort than the others they'll usually get rewarded. There are obvious exceptions, this years Wacken Battle in Dublin for example was totally backhanded. Mates voting for mates type of thing. What really pisses me off is these popularity contests that require every group to amass a larger number of votes than than is humanly possible. Therefore everytime you log onto Facebook/Myspace/ReverbNation/Basschat etc some tit you never heard of is looking for you to vote for their band that you've never heard and usually dont like after listening to....................................................
Every band you seem to see live, there bass players seem to play fenders. I've played a couple and I cant see what all the fuss is about???? Ive played much nicer basses for a lot less money.
Cant wait till the P gas sets in......

Fairly scooped. On the Trace it was Preshape 1, low and high mids boosted, graphic level and balance at about 3-4 o'clock. I'm using the LH500 mostly now and it 8-6-7 on the eq with the brite switch and limiter engaged.

Hartke LH 500 is probably the best sub £500 head I've come across. I'm not up with the exchange rate at the mo but I think the LH1000 also comes in under £500. The 500 watt version is more than loud enough IMO. Its a completely different amp to the Terror and IMO is a better head by a country mile. I've promoted mine to gig duties ahead of the Trace Elliot. Never thought that would happen!

This should probably be in the misc. section but whattheheck. I was just wondering if anyone knows when the label on Warwick tuners switched from stating 'Made in West Germany' to just 'Germany'. My Streamer is dated a good while after the wall came down but the tuners are labeled 'made in west germany' and the cavity plate says 'made in germany' (well I did say it was useless info I was after!)

Dunno about bland. These are some of the finest looking basses I've seen. Sound wise they're great too. I'll take stock Yamahammer pups any day.
-
I dont think its a matter of being under rated. IMO it comes down to what is portrayed in the media (Fender, Gibson, Ampeg etc.), and a lack of availability. Theres not many stores who stock a wide range of Yamaha basses in comparsion to Fender et. al. Most musicians I know have had a Yamaha somewhere along the line. Many go on to buy the usual brand names but usually they will keep the Yamaha also because they know exactly what it can do. The same could be said of Hohner and Aria. Both companies used to produce instruments that were just as good as Fender or Gibson but fell away because they couldnt compete with the marketing of the larger companies.
-
As the guys were saying above they're both very different amps. The GK is superb and has that unmistakable grind. Worth a punt IMO.
-
Aye. I was keeping an eye on yours Lozz. The DBS is probably one of my fav heads. The retailer doesn't seem to want to send me on pics of the back panel and insides so I'm thinking it may be dodge. From what I can make out Bigjohn its fairly tattered in parts.
-
Cheers lads. I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and grab it. It'll be one off the list anyway. Now to find a DBS.......
