1. Theres two bands which I'd travel a couple of miles to see. There are others which play around locally who do draw a few heads each time but IMO they're pants and not worth the wasted cost of a pint of Hino. So basically yes, if they're good enough cover bands can build a good following.
2. Story lads? Havent been about in a while. Just a quick question re secondhand prices on JCM800 bass series. Seen one for €450. It looks a bit ragidy but supposedly its been recently serviced. Is it just me or does the price seem a little high. Any input would be appreciated. I've been after one of these for a while now.

4. Its mostly wah and various distortions/OD's/fuzz/grit for me. All the synths have gone from the board. Its actually at the point where I'm just using a BCB-60 to carry what I need instead of the pedaltrain. Dunno about using fx to cover up sloppy technique. IME sloppy is sloppy and nothing can hide it.
5. Same as. The Rockbag will do the job just fine.
6.
Portrait? Time stopped in 1983 for them, Mog, go easy. Things are strage and unusual in the future for them, just like in Back To The Future II
Aye true lad. Thought it was a bit off though. The Pint in Dublin was a lot better. No sound check though and I broke a string on the 6th tune Oh how we laughed. See ya @ the siege Doc. Tis gonna be a cracker.
7. Just be straight with them. The truth cant be argued. (except on basschat)
8. Strange one in Cork last night. Dyin with the man flu but got through it. On to Dublin tonight with the same bands. Wasn't very happy with the main act who apologised to the crowd during their set stating: "sorry we're not heavy tonight, our own amps are back in Sweden" Goes without saying that they wont be using any of our gear tonight. The guitard didn't even know what the standby switch on the head did, or how to switch channels. What kind of band goes on tour without amp heads? The type that use Epi V's and T'birds, thats who! I bet ya theres stacks of Marshall MG's back in Sweden that would be more suitable. Look! One power switch! (rant over) The second band were fantastic. Age of Taurus. London based I think. If you're into doom then check em out.
9. Very different tones from the Trace Elliot and Orange amps. If you are into Orange then grab a Bass terror. Personally I think they sound muck but I've only come across them at Metal gigs. Great tone and Metal seems to be a thing of the past. I'm not up with the technical end of it but there are tonal differences between speaker diameters. Most 10's have the same (or greater) frequency range as 15's but put out a tighter sound. My Mag 410 has a deeper sound than most of my 1x15's. The 15's however add a little 'width' to the tone. Edit: just realised that unless you are micing the bass cab(s), which is rarely done live, then speaker size/cab size/how you stack them is irrelevent. In most large clubs the cabs are just backline/monitors. Everything the crowd hears will be from FOH. So you're talking subs, mids and tweeters.
10.
So, bought me a used 5-string (from the forum) a month or so ago, just to have a go with and see how I got on. It's definitely the nicest one to play of all the 5-er's I've tried over the last year or so. But it still just doesn't feel quite right (for some songs more than others), and I always find my hands wandering straight back to my 4 string. What does it mean? More practice? That maybe I should stick with 4?
Lock away the 4 string. You are only slowing yourself down. Its all about putting the time in. BTW, if you play the 5 at the same height as the 4 it will be uncomfortable. Play around with strap lengths until you find a balance.
Just wondering but does anyone here have trouble switching between 4, 5 and 6 strings?
I practice at home and play cover gigs with a 6, play a 5er live with the originals band and use a 4 in the studio (mostly). I'm really comfortable switching between them. Maybe you are thinking about the differences too much? I cant really see how there can be a problem aside from a physical one which is what practice is for.
11. Flavour of the month around here is the Hartke LH series. The 500 watt version is more than enough for most venues. Theres also the Orange Bass Terror. A 4x10 is perfect for the larger venues, up to about 600 capacity. After that I'd personally add a 1x15 or a 2x10. In your average club (~250 capacity) a good 2x10 will do the job. Fridges are for stadiums IMO.
12. I'd go with Elites. A farr better string IMO. I think the Ernie Ball Extra Slinky strings are around 30-90. Maybe 40-95. May be worth a look also.
13. Hendrix line from Dean Markley are a nice string. 13's with a wound G. I use D'Addario 11's on the tele. The Zakk Wylde sig Dunlops are a nice string also. Great tension/feel.
14. Yep, a sad loss. One of metals finest bassists.
15. Being in a sludge/stoner/doom/rock type band I rarely see cash. When we do its usually a fair whack o cash. Maybe it evens out over the year? Definately do it for pleasure. I've come to realise the easy money is made by the sound tech and have started to do a lot more of that lately. Metal: Always learning, never earning!

Nut Glue
So you reckon I'm gonna be OK to go into a shop to buy fake fingernails and try to explain it by saying I have a problem with my nuts..?
excellent famous quotes thread shoe in.

Nut Glue

That cheap glue that comes with fake nails. All you need is something to hold the nut in place while you get the strings on. Tension will do the rest.
18. Another DiMarzio fan here. The DP 122 is bass & mid heavy so 'growl' isn't that prominent. The Dp 127 might be more suited to what you are after. The Dp 122 can be switched between series/parallel too with the addition of a mini toggle which would give a little more grunt. Dp 127 page
19. Agree with Markorbit. Kill the preshapes. All cuts/boosts need to be a smooth transition. What bass are you using BTW? You could also stick a Catalinbread SFT in the mix to soften up the Trace.
20. Canned Heat - On the [s]Root[/s] Road Again. What a load of pants!
21. Ah the auld SOAD tuning. If you've got the cash try DR DDT's. Circle K strings might be worth a look also. I wouldnt get a set of 5's and try to tune up,up,down,up,up. Thats just waaay to sonic youth, (a phase which led to the death of my duosonic.)
22. Did a bit of snooping on gootube. Dunno about you guys but I reckon this tone is savage. Already have the bass and cab, might as well get the head. Last check was €344 in Musicstore. Sounds like the excessive(?) brightness is coming from a new set of Slinkies. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm for me, but others might not agree. Eq settings in the description.
23. I'd say its very easy. Be prepared to get bogged down a bit at times but if you put the effort in and resist the urge to throw the bass at the wall you'll do it in no time. Music is just like any other language, the more you use it the easier it gets.
24.
Lastly the bands I know are not run by the best musicians but great organizers with a business mind and a feel for what works.
That right there could be the best thing posted in this thread. Spot on sir.
25. As above. You'll need to find maybe 4 probably 5 other likeminded musicians that you can depend on to form a half decent function band. Then its a case of getting the right gear and transport and putting the hard work in. For the first few years you wont make enough to live on but if the band does the miles and plays well then it is possible. Not sure about the tax system in the UK but the IR is starting to come down on bands a lot over here. Best to be safe and keep tabs (sorry!) on everything.
