1. Monkey Wrench - Foo Fighters. Took me ages to get the bloody thing nailed. Cant explain it at all, its dead handy.
2. Another for the TU-2. If its a reliable compact your after then its hard to beat. Theres 3 display settings. Have a go on your mates and see what you think of the other displays. I use the stream setting which can easily be seen from the far side of a good sized stage. The Korg Pitchblack is also a great buy but the TU-2 takes it on build quality.
3. If they want greater attack and you want to play with your fingers try a hand position closer to the bridge. Re pick vs fingers I think both have a place. Neither is better than the other. Practice scales and modes up and down the neck with the pick, IME its great for improving stamina and accuracy.
4. Dont really get this one, just mod a Pete Wentz squire.
5.
I don't have a cab yet, again I don't know where to start, but at recent gigs we've sorted kitshare, all shared a cab and brought our own heads. I suppose I should look into a cab too!
In my experience, the majority of bands in the metal scene are more than happy to share gear. Once you have a head sorted most of your troubles are sorted. The Ashdown Mag 410T is a good cab in my book. Lots of lowend and really cheap secondhand. I've seen them go for €100 over here.
6. I'd also go with Trace Elliot. They go for very little secondhand. A 300 watt Gp 7sm should cost you around £150ish. The Peavey Tour 450 head is also going for about £250ish lately but they're a little bland IMO.
7. Just about to order a few sets of strings for the 5 and 6 string basses. I'm tempted to have another shot at sets with tapered B strings despite a bad experience with Dunlops. Do any of youz lot prefer tapered sets over standard guages. And which brand are best in your opinion. The 5 string is top loaded and the 6 string is throughbody.
8. had the same thing happen with a set of new dunlops last summer. very strange. i suppose 8 years is a long time, certainly enough to go 'off'
9. A Change of Seasons - Dream Theater Everything on Relish (bar One of Us) - Joan Osborne America - S&G Couldn't Stand the Weather - SRV Juice - Steve Vai
10. That back on the market already?
11.
Last night I struggled to get on the site at all for a fair while. Now it's ok again. Weird
Same as.
12. That Hybrid looks like something I've seen before. Rex Brown sig SSD maybe?
13. Cant take to them at all, almost as bad as GHS Boomers. Wouldnt mind trying the flats though.
14.
Also add yourself to your own phone book in your phone. Then you can just text your "electronic business card" to someone you meet. Save all that spelling out your name and waiting for them to type your name into their phone.
We do something similar a a lot of gigs. Netbook and bluetooth. Spam everyones phone/pda. I find that white/cream cards with bold dark text look best.
15. Cirrus I think.
16. Handy if you break a string mid set and dont have a backup bass. Other than than that I dont use mine. (Battery screwdriver + planet waves attachment)
17. You're probably just trying to hard, if theres no rush to get the songs finished/recorded then dont force the lines. Just jam over rough recordings once or twice a day and the parts will come eventually. +1 to listening to something different as the guys posted. I also find jamming over the track on the 'tele or an acoustic can bring out the odd idea. Dont stress too much. It will pass eventually.
18.
Not to mention the raging lunatic of a Conductor, and the brassed bra Lynit being chased by a Flying Dutchman on a winged Horse. All down to discipline really [Or lack of it] Garry
True true!
19. Good man. Didn't realise they owned Crate as well.
20.
the heritage ones are proper, mormon built american muthalovers. but you'll need to sell your wife, car and house to buy a hundred watt combo. you also will have a three month waiting list. Why did mackie have to ruin ampeg????
Hang on, Mackie own Ampeg? I thought Mackie were owned by one of those eastern companies everyone keeps giving out about. I'm confussededed??
21. Because in the cover band theres only 3 other guys to piss off by throwing in a bit of improv. Now imagine the look on the faces of the 7 other bassists in the orchestra as you tear off on a wee tangent during Der fliegende Hollander.
22. Removes some of the grime and grunge and brings back some brightness. Some add vinegar others use mixtures of alcohol. It can make the strings brittle in some cases. Theres a thread on it in here somewhere if you do a search.
23.
I think it's quite a talent to get a bassline note perfect but I always prefer the creative process of putting my own stamp / twist on something.
+1 Unless its a classical piece I'll put the odd twist on a tune 99% of the time.
24. Jaysus they're almost as cheap as the Affinity line Why is the VMJ still so expensive though?
