2. +1 for Bjork. A bit of Sinatra does the job too.
  3.
What I want to know is when I click on "View New Posts" why does this one keep appearing...
4.
So many of you play in covers bands, in fact it seems to me that all of you do!!! What is the appeal of playing in a covers band? I've never understood it. I've always played in a band that writes and performs its own material - very very very rarely have we ever thrown a cover into our set and I always felt it was a pointless exercise. Does anyone here, apart from me, play in a band that writes its own material?
Pays the bills, uneducated punters = less setting up/getting levels perfect etc. The free beer/biotchs I think its a great starting point for young or inexperienced people. Plus, playing covers exposes you to other players style and techniques. That certainly aint pointless. For the last few years I've been playing in an original band and can say its a hell of a lot tougher than playing in a cover band.
  5. If you really want to change the pups I'd suggest DiMarzio. Not the most common choice at the mo but I swear by em.

Another +1 for Circle K strings.
  9.
This is seriously good gear. It is indeed the sign of the times. I've seen stuff going at silly prices on ebay and on Basschat, as everyone is skint. It only takes one person to offload their gear at a daft price and everything else follows.
Agreed. Noticed this on Thursday or Friday. Great bit of kit for 200 quid. The DBS's I've come across have been top notch. Killer tones and plenty loud. One for the Muse fanboys to snap up.

    Strings

If you like liked the strings that it was shipped with then its Black label Warwicks. I also find the red label great value. Roughly 10 quid a pack o 4's.
  12. I've never come across the 4x12 cabs on my travels lad. I used my 800 with an old Ampeg 4x10 and it sounded epic. Then ,like an idiot I sold the head I think there was an 8x10 cab from Marshall. Could have been the 1940.
  13. Its not restricted to online dealers. Theres a pretty famous store in Dublin thats was caught selling knockoff instruments not so long ago. I'm sure they're not the only ones.
  14. I suppose it really depends on the song. I wouldn't be able to think of anything to play off the cuff in a song like Limelight by Rush but tunes by Oasis or The Verve etc are begging for little moments of maddness IMO. Also if you are playing folk or trad tunes the "bassline" was probably originally played on a button accordian etc. Therefore some sort of improv is called for. (The confessions of a convicted fretw***er BTW)
  15.
To All, Sorry posting a topic that has potentially already been touched on. I have been thinking lately about getting a dedicated wireless unit for the bass as normal guitar ones don't always let the full frequency range pass through. You can't beat a good quality lead but for some reason I have started getting tangled up in mine when performing, a right pain in the arse! I was wondering what experiances people have had with using Ashdowns dedcated unit, Freebass? Can't seem to find any reviews as such on the net so hopefully one of the many bassists on here may have had some experiance with it. I'm not too fussed about all the DSP effects built in, I play very standard bass in a standard 60's covers band so effects for bass isn't at the top of my list, playing 6 string would be a different matter! 16.
After the gig I've actually had someone ask me what I thought of the band.
Thats crackin! Its usually the same auld shower of sh*tehawks who spout on about how great we sounded and then proceed to talk amongst themselves about how crap we are
  17. This is gold, pure gold. Fair play OP. Stick to your guns lad.
  18.
I don't go to guitar shops and I don't feel any desire to align myself with a brand.
That answers it!!
  19. Following on from the basses you want to love but cant thread, whats you're go to brand? The stand you go to first in a store or outlet. I usually head straight to the Yamaha basses.
  20. Anything from Ernie Ball  Played a good few and the Bongo 6 was the easiest to get around on. As much as I try I cant get along with those horrible necks. Anyone know if they have a model with the same specs as a 60's Jazz? (Radius 7.25, Width 1.50)
  21.
The gearstalkers are going to have a great time with one of my function bands. We've recently started using Line 6 Pods and in-ear monitors so there are no amps at all on stage. The front of house sound great though,so it'll really confuse them all.
E-gearstalking Alert!! Can I ask what IEM system you are using Doddy. I've also started using a Pod Live for some shows after reading a few posts here, (cheers Silddx ) and want to pick up a good system instead of carrying a wedge. I know feck all about IEM's though.
  22.
It is at this point that you slam the headstock right into their face before stating; "Even the cheapest bass can break your nose as good as the best of them!"
Sounds like you've been to a Castero gig!
  23.
yeah i'm a 'gearstalker' too.. and also I tend to judge a band on the quality/brand/level of gear they have before I've heard them play a note.... any one else guilty of this?! c'mon.. own up!! (my assumptions on said bands are normally correct though it must be said!!) peace c
I've noticed that a lot too I have to say but it also goes the other way. I've often been called a prick when using the 'wick. Gear snobbery to resentment in 0.9 sec. I'm more than happy to use the 'ol Hohner or Yamaha at any gig. The result will be the same. The ony thing I check in a venue is the bass amp. Unless there is something standout, then I'm an uber geek!
  24. Top stuff IMO. Its a great album for basslines. Lots of groove.
  25. Been messing about with an MXR el grande bass fuzz for the last week and I'm well impressed. Personally I find most of the Boss fx to be bland. A good Chorus like the EBS unichorus would be a good option and also maybe a octave/pitch shifter.
