  1. I'd look out for a secondhand SWR redhead. Great combos. Used one for years without trouble.
  2. I've always used a scooped eq. Nothing major, just a little boost in bass and high mids. Never really desired/felt the need to change my tone.
  3. Anything off Alien Love Secrets by Vai is handy enough for a three piece lad. Juice is a fun song to jam out live. I'd agree with The Funk and say throw some SRV in there too.

  5. I find bass purchases relatively cheap. A deacent gigging set up of lets say a MIM P-bass and Hartke 3500 and a 4x10 would cost you about £,1250 odd. That would be a pretty good rig IMO. Even my most expensive bass is still cheaper than my flamenco, a Ramirez R5 which would be a mid priced guitar.

  7. I'm usually the one everyone dislikes. Honestly! I've been in bands with mates who I couldn't work with musically but still consider genuine friends outside of the band situation.

  9. Thankfully we are taking a few months off to finish an album. Nothing planned until April. We clocked up over 5000 miles on the road last year, averaging about two gigs a week and I found it tough going TBH.
  10. 4000 watts in a pub! Ditch the backline and use monitors. Levels can be sorted easily with some friends filling in as sound techs. Just get to the venue earlier and have the soundcheck finished before the punters come in. Once everything is level soundwise its just a matter of using the master on the PA to reach the most suitable volume.
  11. That bass is fairly hard on the eyes but it has a killer tone. Was at a couple of U2 shows this year and it sounded immense! Ability wise he is as good as any rock bassist.Keeping things simple is ok sometimes. Michael Anthony got away with it with Van Halen as does Colin Greenwood in Radiohead. Ha ha ! Sorry forgot what year it is! was at a couple of shows last summer!
  12. could be cool with a different headstock. its just too plain and nicely contoured for the body shape.
  13. steves right, the tonelok pedals all have dodgy switching. i glued a piece or hard foam to the black pad thats on the underside of the lid that normally comes in contact with the switch. it still sometimes needs a second press but its not as bad as it was. it also helps to press the pedal as centrally as possible. pity about this defect because the pd-7 is a great sounding pedal.

  15. cause it rocks!! seriously though without getting into theory too much the standard blues progression is used in lots of styles from jazz to metal. learn some blues scales and you'll come across the blue notes, usually flat 3rd or 5th's. theres plenty of great blues artists around at the moment worth looking into. check out jim kirkpatrick.one of the best in the uk at the mo.   21. I have to agree with the O.P and say that Wooten is totally over rated. Bit of a one trick pony IMO.Seen him with Bella Fleck last November in Uni and was not impressed. Under rated IMO is Pat Padger (yes I'm a sad git who listens to Extreme :snob: say what you will!). Check out the bassline for Tradgic Comic off Three Sides To Every Story. Genius.

  23. IMO all suggestions should be tried. If someone thinks they have an idea that will improve a song then give it a go. Sometimes it will work out and some times it wont, you just have to know when to swallow your pride when the drummer finally comes up with a usable bass line!
  24. I'd go with the Hartke. Not a fan of Ashdown as I've seen too many crap out during shows. The Peavey is not the loudest rig I've come across either. We ran one during a pub gig last year and had to mic up the 4x10 !??!
  25. Cheers Mykesbass. The Behringer/Bugera brand seems to be the "hate figure" at the moment but any I've come across seem to be ok. The Bugera heads really impressed me. Our guitarist uses a 6260 and always gets positive feedback from people regarding the tone. When we record he teams it up with a JCM800 and gets a killer N.O.L.A. sound.
