@thodrik I'm completely with you there. It's the fact, even though it's considered 'free' to us (despite having to watch adverts that pay the channel) it's mis-sold to us, and as you say he's got his own brand/business to develop and doing what he does, I feel it's a mockery. I can't say I'm subscribed but even when I see his videos come in my feed, I'm repulsed to watch him because he's just full of shΒ‘t!! Ed "The Bass Whisperer" Friedland though... what a guy, what videos he used to make. I used to love seeing new videos as they were very informative and he'd play a bass in so many ways you'd see and hear all it had to offer. Scott though? He's the Carl Pilkington of the bass world. He's some opinionated twit who wears a single white glove to play bass. (Last person I knew who wore a single white glove in his profession.... Actually no! π)

'3 reasons why six string basses suck (And how to fix it)' *Gets a Β£4k bass from Yamaha especially for the video* What a knob jockey ππ

"Alwaysο»Ώ loved the SBο»Ώ ο»Ώshape (Cliff Burton) so always wanted a 5 string onο»Ώeο»Ώο»Ώ" Just a 5 string.... Like the SB1000/B πππ»

Cheap! Well, compared to a 4 string Cliff Burton π Oh how the Burton household must miss Cliff, wiping away tears and blowing their noses on dollar bills
-
@mangotango surprisingly not you then, you're safe πππ» Honestly seen some butchered fretboards out there on what I'd consider decent basses (ranging from Β£500-Β£1500) Clearly frets being pried off with pliers without any experience or knowhow of performing a defret. Chips and tear outs on the fretboard π° recently seen something go from Β£900 to Β£200 on what I'd safely assume was a bad job defretting it. Just a shame people can't just get them done professionally or simply buy a fretless bass. Anyway, not going off topic.... @Bassassin I think he's more so after an Aria SB1000/5 kind of model more than anything else 5 string Aria

About to share my collection of rack porn too...

There's a few dickheads out there defretting decent 5 string basses lately. Need to hunt them down and curb stomp them βπ» Not tried the 5 string Aria SBs, loved the 4 strings and owned one of the original Β£500 Cliff Burton basses years ago, loved it! Definitely quality basses but wishing I had a 5 string to try too.

I wrote a book about being in a covers band

That blurb... Is this a story or a biography? Much confusion. Not for me but wishing you the best πβπ» -
Can we just clear something here.... The worst thing about ANY YouTube video or review is clickbait. 50 million techniques in one song WIN Β£5,000 worth of equipment I shred a spade with one string Cute girl plays with G String Well... Ok... Maybe the last one I threw in there but you'd still watch it regardless of the content π Clickbait people. I rest my case haha.

LOVE her bass playing but can't say I'm a fan of her singing π not my cup of tea at least and not to discredit her voice.
-
But some of those reviews will definitely reach out to people out there, perhaps a limited proportion of the market but I know there's been things I've been searching for in the past and no results, these days you can pretty much find anything on YouTube and will tick boxes for most. Also, who doesn't love a 10 minute slap fest with no compression? ππ
-
We'll have to think of a suitable penalty for this. I mean there's being late to the party and then there's arriving in the morning to help clear up the mess π Sure hope you'll enjoy it here and don't worry, we won't give you too much grief ππ @TheGreektell me about it! Someone said there's a beautiful Yamaha Attitude 2 ltd bass up for grabs π *cough cough* not that I'd shamefully plug a sale or anything.

Is there a particular bass you're looking at? Maybe add pics? Links? Specs/details? Tokai are obviously still being produced but tend to ship from China/Indonesia way these days than good old Japan. Unsure of which year this changed really. The classic Fender styled headstock decal has changed to something of Tokai's own style (although not 'too' different from something Fender vibes) A quote from a Webby that seems to hit the nail on the head π "For anyone in the market for a vintage instrument, the Japanese guitars from the β70s and β80s are great choices that donβt command the outrageous price tags of their American counterparts. Just be wary of sellers using the word βlawsuitβ to drive up the asking price of their vintage Japanese instruments, and try to ask a lot of questions." - Soundfly (<-- click π)

Something from Fender on the topic

Kinda like a baritone, although it depends on who you buy from or what brand. I've had the a Squier Bass VI and a Gretsch Electromatic Baritone, there wasn't any difference between them in scale length or string gauges. Typically a baritone is 27-28.5" tuned usually in BEADF#B, ADGCEA & CFBbEbGC. Bass VI is 30" and usually tuned EADGBE but seems this chops and changes all the while. I'd recommend checking out the guitar specs before turning one up or finding the right strings. No definitive way to play them. Thumbs, fingers, plectrums... Just find your own way that's comfortable for you and enjoy πππ»

Something about a pick on a Pbass that is so right. Perhaps just the right amount of attack through the split pickups, without coming out too trebely and harsh, that just hits that spot ππ» I don't use the J in my P/J basses so much for this reason if I'm playing with a plec

That's some 5 string filth there! π

Same as Fleabag. Played a Magnum (chap wouldn't sell it to me π) but fantastic bass. Hoping being from the same company that it would be rather sound investment for Β£300 πβπ»

Orphius, sometimes you've got to have the bad things in life to really appreciate the good things.... You found those good things eventually and even better for 5 strings πβπ» Welcome to BassChat my brother. I hope you enjoy your stay as a member and to catch you around. Big Smoke
