  1. Well, we won’t be too disheartened by you joining TB first but it’s definitely a better forum here 😉 welcome back friend. I’m sorry to hear you’ve had to put the bass down for a while but speaking from the same experience with my hunting, I know how it feels when life gets “too real” and you have to prioritise with other matters but it’s good to have you back with us and have you back on bass too. I hope you enjoy the forum and being back here as a member and part of the banter. As ever, leave it a while before you check out the marketplace or you’ll soon regret coming back and having no money 😂😂😂
  2. What more can I say than, One of us! one of us! one of us! Welcome aboard🤣. Regarding the bass, if it’s still not how you’d like it, take it to a guitar tech or luthier to have a look at, it may cost a little bit but you might find out something new that you can keep in mind for next time and also share it here as one of your first posts 😉 wishing you luck sorting it.
  3. I’d say when the time is ready, check out a few different bridges as some are cheaper and probably just as good. I think I got a Gotoh bridge for ~£30 off eBay and it’s a great little thing. Regarding the fretboard radius, I don’t know off hand but considering they’re modelled after the 60’s jazz Basses, I’d say probably around the 7.25” spec. Someone maybe able to confirm this for you who owns/owned one.
  4. I will soon have one of these too! 😅 Fanboy here too.
  5. Did anyone else cringe at the video or just me? 😕
  6. Welcome to the forum Dave. Regarding the models, both are fantastic for their price points. Main difference is in the hardware and one being active (active pickups) and the other passive. I'd favour the 700 range if its easily in your price range. Even used by the likes of Mr Peter Hook himself, a renowned Yamaha artist 😉 Any questions, feel free to message me. Enjoy the forum in the meantime 😁
  7. Welcome Brian, As mentioned, Ibanez is definitely one to go for for a thin 5 string neck but ALWAYS try before you buy. Ive had an ibanez SRX305 before which had such a wide and thick neck, it became quite a chore to play and ive got pretty large hands too.... Alternatively I'd say check out yamaha. Yes I'm a fanboy but theres a fair range of models to try from the TRBX and BB. The BB range would be ideal for the bands you enjoy playing ans listening to with the P/J configuration. I hope this helps somewhat but enjoy the forum
  8. Welcome CC Glad to hear you're back on bass and enjoying it once more! 😁 even as an 'advanced player' I'm always buying books and learning the theory, techniques and anything I can learn to better myself as a musician as much as a bassist, so you're already making the right moves..... Other than not telling the Mrs but I get why 😉 Hope you enjoy the forum, it's a great place and so many friendly people here.
  9. Hey Joris, Tell us a little about yourself and what brought you here, we'd love to hear. I hope you enjoy the forum and get real dug into it 😁
  10. Welcome NFF, glad to have you back playing bass and joining us 😁 To me, doesn't matter what you play as long as you're enjoying it and keeps you going back to it after a long day at work. Hope life is treating you well in Bulgaria
  11. Welcome Steen. Unfortunately I'm useless with fretless basses but I'm sure there'll be a topic somewhere. Try using the search bar and see what it pulls up. Hope you enjoy the forum 😁
  12. Not yet but the Talman basses seem to be popular when I worked in my previous job. Do love the look of it. Even if I would switch the bridge and change the battery door 😅
  13. The old cream/white or white/cream works well for the vintage look, especially with an unmatched headstock. 😉👌🏻 White on white doesn't do it for me but each to their own I guess...
  14. If say they're both roughly the same build quality. There is, as @Elfrasho says about Bass Collection having the Babicz bridge option too, which will be a little better for tone compared to the vintage style bridges with the added mass. Me personally: I'd sway towards Bass Collection especially with colour options new.
  15. Always preferred Dunlop myself, just always work, simple and secure. The only issue I ever found with Schaller's, was if you were changing your strap in a rush (i.e. live) and the strap button didn't 'slide in' before the pin locked but still sat in the mechanism above the pin, your guitar would soon take a nosedive when it would 'unhook'. Not good for your instrument, sound or your bands reputation, let alone your own.
  16. The TBP (£300) are cheap Chinese made basses, nothing alike to the Tokai Hardpunchers of the day. Perhaps more so like the Westfield quality beginner basses with the Tokai name slapped on, double the price. Ive seen some Squier basses with better specs sell for less. For the price range you're looking to spend, I'd consider looking at some of the Bass Collection(Bass Centre) basses for sale on here or buy new. They're supposed be be highly regarded instruments for sub £500 basses. I'm sure someone will vouch for this. Some of the MIM basses, they're ok but overpriced for what opinion I hold on Fenders and prices. IF you're after a Japanese Tokai, I'd say hold out and wait for one to come up you like and keep adding to your funds. Fantastic basses and worth spending a little more on something quality.
  17. Black or pearloid.... Black being more classy imo 😉
  18. *"knop" = knob. Fantastic basses, I'd be interested to try this with your mods, almost a James Lomenzo configuration GLWTS
  19. Price: £625 £550 Location: Eastham, Wirral, Cheshire. £750 value (Reverb.com), after £550 for a quick sale to fund much needed new equipment. Well kept, hardly any signs of wear (being a bassist primarily) comes with Jim Dunlop Straplocks, case and case candy. Gibson Les Paul Tribute Electric Guitar Features: A tribute to a beloved classic 9-hole, weight-relieved body allows for longer sets Mahogany SlimTaper neck plays like a '60s favorite Rosewood fingerboard delivers classic Les Paul sustain Gibson 490 pickups pay tribute to turning-point tones of the 1960s Decked out with vintage-style Tektoid tuners and Gold Top Hat knobs Aluminum Tune-o-matic bridge is lightweight and tonally matched to the guitar Plek'd for precision playability Any questions, don't hesitate to ask. Thank you for viewing BSB
  20. What a bass for a hell of a guy. Someone's going to love this 😉🤘🏻
  21. Yes the SUB is a bargain for American made Musicman bass, no lie but the electronics aren't the same. I don't know so much for the pickup itself but this is only a 2 band active EQ and no pickup switch. There are vast differences between the SUB5 and the Classic 5.... A bit misleading when you detail it like that. Perhaps a revise? I'll happily remove my comment afterwards 👍🏻
  22. I suppose its always good to have the option of cases. Beautiful basses from the 80's/90's.
  23. I thought they came supplied with MM cases for free in 1993, as much as in 1987 and now ? 🤔
