Bass Collection - "Frankenstein" John Entwistle bass
bigsmokebass replied to bigsmokebass's topic in Bass Guitars
😂 It is. Not convinced I can hear any extra sustain but it looks cool! 😀
I found adding the Hipshot SuperTone to my Gibson KN RD actually made a load of difference to the tone, which was actually really surprising... so I can only assume if you had the same bass with and without the babicz you'd probably notice what difference it makes. I'm not sure if I would stick one on the JE pbass though, For less I'd probably swap out the pickups and electronics: being cheaper and a better sound to a bridge. -
I've got the jazz with the fancy bridge (so it's the higher end one) and it's a lovely bass. It's been my #1 since I got it.
Get you, little show off! Hahaha. Is that the one with the babicz bridge? -
no worries. Ah yeah fair enough, replicating it for £325 would seriously be impressive! If you do try one let us know how you get on!
I shall wait for one of my basses to sell and then invest in it anyway, for the price I'm sure to be amazed anyway and I shall also include a video for YouTube as there's nothing out there (that I can see) thanks for the help Ox -
I can't say I've tried it, but in my opinion it doesn't seem to be a kind of bass that would produce his sort of tone! It may very well be a good bass for the money however I just don't see any particular connection between John's frankenstein and that bass apart from the aesthetics. But just my thoughts
Thanks Ox. Don't know whether I'd be looking to replicate the JE sound £325 or seriously my mind would be blown. Just wondering as to whether the model is any different to the standard model as for neck, tones... whether it would have a classic 50's or 60's neck- anything closer to the JE model as to a colour scheme similar to it. -
I haven't tried any, But know that Norman Watt Roy was using his signature bass collection sig when he did a gig here a while back. I t sounded great and he siad it was a nice bass. I think the bass collection basses are a lot of bass for not very much £. I'd imagine they would have a return policy as well if you weren't happy with what you have bought?
Pretty sure he has one of the Master built basses as much as a standard budget model, did he play both or...? -
Entwistle. EntWISTLE. I've heard nothing but good things about the Bass Collection,erm... collection, but the whole JE signature/tribute bass thing is a bit tasteless IMHO. It looks a bit like a bass he used to play but that's about it.
I bow my head in shame, I know it was my autocorrect but I should have checked and not assumed it's always right *runs and hides* I've heard all good about BC as well but seeing as this is an "artist" model, I'm not sure whether this is another Power bass in a 'signature' finish or whether it has a different neck specs or electronics.... hard to say without trying one. As for the name, I'm with you there but all the same, if I was to buy a BC bass, why not go for one close to my heroes bass? That or the Lizzy Bass. Do it in style For me though, Dean have milked artists that have passed well and truly from Dimebag and now JE and I dare imagine anyone else added to that list. -
Hey guys, I've been looking at the Bass Collection basses for some years now- pretty much since they started up again from the previous Nanyo Speakeasy days, now with the Jive and Power basses from Bass Centre (I believe, who now have them produced). I've been toying with the idea of the Frankenstein bass, not only for it being an Entwistle model but just seems a decent bass for the money (very much a Fender 50's classic) . I'd love a bass I'm not afraid of getting worn in and well played, as I'm pretty OCD about keeping my basses pristine. However, never playing one or seeing them in person, I'd really love to hear some feedback: good and bad. Ideally, from anyone with this specific model as well as the general impression of Bass Collection. My greatest fear is spending £325 on a bass that is no different to my sub £150 Westfield Pbass I started on 14 years ago. :-/ BSB

Welcome to the forum and a great read I had a JCM800 bass with 4x12 cab... my back feels it now hahaha
Hard to judge on that though. The original EB bass was crushingly ugly, whereas this one is just a bit generic, so I suppose being 50% more expensive makes sense. The idea of spending 600 on one of those originals is beyond crazy to me, but I know that taste is random!
Being honest, they were a shape of their own and oddly grew on me. I think for a lot of reasons, they were a really good bass: for example, being light material and hardware basses are useful to those with back problems. Good pickups and electronics. I don't know about justifying 50% on an already expensive instrument (albeit, to the likes of myself) just doesn't seem right or fair. I do appreciate where you're coming from though and the "embassy" shape is more palletsble than the old EB shape but what's wrong with having both? They make barely any basses anyway other than the Tbird and SG whilst the old shapes come and go but with poor features (imho) im going off Gibson thick and fast anyway which is a shame as I did adore them at one point but better basses out there
-
To be honest, the more i look at them i just feel sorry for anyone willing to actually purchase one of these. The original EB bass was about ~£600-£750 and came with the new hardshell cases. The new EB is exactly the same all bar the new shape and comes with a gigbag for ~£300 more.... wh-what?! how does that even make sense?

(TRADED) Jackson JS3V 5 String Concert Bass
bigsmokebass replied to bigsmokebass's topic in Basses For Sale
Jackson basses are the mutts nuts and so under rated GLWTS fella
Totally are indeed, I was blown away myself when I tried it. Quite an aggressive looking bass for versatility it has. Make it a single cut bass and I bet it would be worth no less than £900 XD Thank you for the wishes and I hope someone snaps it up before I change my mind -
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172361359940 Something just seems fishy about this.... I'm sure we all know this as the USA Fender Marcus Miller Jazz bass 5 string . Yet the seller has no idea and has been passed down through the family (?) also sellers other items include new IPhone 6s and IPad, along with the new FIFA game.... It just doesn't add up. I'm tempted to call "stolen" on this or at least a scam alert.

Hi, welcome to my sale page. For sale is my 2014 Jackson 5 string JS series Concert bass in Silverburst. This has to be one of my favourite active 5 strings upto now. Because, although it looks 'rock/metal', the diversity in cosmetics to sound is just phenomenal and massively versatile from deep growling, chugging metal riffs or funky slap bass and even smooth jazz bass tones... this will be a good run for your money if you're just starting bass, new to 5 string or just fancy something to play with. Specs: 5-string Concert bass body style - Indian cedro body Bolt-on maple neck - 34" scale length Nut - 1.75" width Indian rosewood fingerboard - 24 jumbo frets Compound neck radius - 12" - 16" MOTO shark fin position inlays Jackson active humbucking pickups Jackson Active EQ. Controls - Neck Volume, Bridge Volume, Bass, Mid, and Treble controls Jackson high-mass bridge Jackson non-locking tuners Dunlop Straplok- locking straplock system. Black to match hardware Condition: The bass is in almost new condition with very little play time and no signs of wear. However, I have lost the truss cover but shouldn't cost much to replace via eBay or any Fender/Jackson retailer. Comes with no gigbag or case- but I can include one for delivery. The bass has recently been setup and strung with D'Addario's which fit snug as a bug and really gives the bass some justice in tones. Pictures: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/u70l7rm84r58tcg/AAB8z7xDA6qqk43Ybem1O02Ba?dl=0 Price/Trades: I'm after £200 sale price. Not looking to sell for any less as this is a really good bass and deserves to be worth more haha. No trades at the moment. Collection/Delivery: The bass is on the Wirral, Cheshire and collection would be preferred. However, delivery is down to buyer to pay for but I do know some fast and reputable companies to go with. Thank you for reading my page, I hope you enjoyed it and possibly hear from you soon. Hi, welcome to my sale page. For sale is my 2015 Yamaha TRBX305 in Pewter. Such a lovely bass but the reason for sale is just I don't get on with active basses anymore. The bass is such a smooth 5 string in sound and feel and a fantastic construction for that too, including a 5 piece neck and a mahogany body. You know you can't go wrong with the Yamaha brand. Specs: Bolt-on neck 34" (863.6 mm) scale length Mahogany body Maple/Mahogany 5pcs neck Rosewood fingerboard w/ 23 5/8" (600 mm) radius 24 Medium frets Urea nut Width @ 0 Fret / 12th Fret 43.0 / 63.4 mm Thickness @ 1st Fret / 12th Fret 20.5 / 22.5 mm Neck Pickup Double Coil / Ceramic Bridge Pickup Double Coil / Ceramic Controls: Master Volume, Pickup Balancer, 2-BAND EQ(Bass,Treble), 5 Position Lever Switch for Performance EQ Die-cast bridge String spacing 18mm Covered Diecast Tuning Machines D'Addario strings 0.045-0.130 (5 strings) Condition: The bass is in almost new condition with very little play time and no signs of wear. Comes with no gigbag or case- but I can include one for delivery. The bass has recently been setup and strung with D'Addario's which fit snug as a bug and really gives the bass some justice in tones. Pictures: will be updated soon. Price/Trades: I'm after £200 sale price, this is a fair price for the £360 I paid new. I think any less is a rip off for such a fantastic instrument and FAR superior to its RBX predecessor which still sell for the £200 price point (in good condition). Grae BSB
