Hey guys, BSB again, reporting with more news on Gibson basses again. Specs:
The EB Bass has deep roots in rock'n'roll, with its SG-derived body and chunky pickups rumbling out the low end for countless rockers from the '60s to today. Now Gibson USA blends its knack for innovation with Gibson tradition in an ingenious reinvention of the format to bring you the new EB Bass, one of the most powerful and versatile four strings available today. The new EB Bass marries a brand new and extremely comfortable body shape to a glued-in, full-scale neck and two awesome sounding new humbucking bass pickups for unprecedented power and fidelity. Whether you play in-the-pocket funk, warm and sultry jazz, or raging rock, the EB Bass is primed to take it on. It looks great in the process, too, in your choice of four gorgeous grain-textured nitrocellulose lacquer finishes, in Natural Satin, Satin Ebony, Satin Cream, and Satin Fireburst, each offset by a stylishly swept-back red tortoise pickguard. The foundation of the new EB Bass from Gibson USA lies in a solid ash body and glued-in maple neck. Ash has long been respected for its open, resonant tone, and lends itself perfectly to a rich, versatile-voiced bass. A glued-in solid Grade-A maple neck adds punch and clarity to the brew, and feels superbly playable with its rounded profile that measures .800" at the 1st fret and .900" at the 12th. Its unbound genuine rosewood fingerboard follows the full 34" scale length, and carries 20 medium jumbo frets, all easily reached by the playing hand thanks to the EB Bass's new offset double-cutaway styling. Up at the other end, a traditional Gibson headstock and high-quality Grover™ tuners stick with tradition, while a precision PLEK cut Corian™ nut optimizes sustain and intonation. The new EB Bass's unprecedented blend of power, fidelity, and versatility comes courtesy of an incredible pair of new humbucking bass pickups that give bassists the best of both worlds in cool bass tone. These newly designed pickups blend genuine Alnico V rod magnets with proprietary winding methods and other materials for a more focused tonality, taking you from thundering humbucker rumble to gutsy robust single coil tones on demand. Pop up either pickup's volume control to access a new frequency tuned coil tap for a fatter single coil tone and better output balance, with hum canceling when both pickups are combined, and low-noise operation when used individually. Blended as desired via independent volume controls and a master tone control, they are wound for warmth and clarity in the neck position, and a hotter, punchier tone in the bridge position for maximum rumble—or blend infinitely at will to create your own sonic brew. A great, highly engineered Babicz™ full contact bass bridge feeds these incredible pickups with the optimum clarity and sustain, while being easily adjustable for perfect intonation, completing a new EB Bass that looks and feels entirely “classic," yet offers a versatile contemporary performance that every modern bassist will appreciate. Check out the new EB Bass today at your authorized Gibson dealer, and see what these new heights of tone and playability can do for your music.
Quite a cool and original looking bass for Gibson (as fa as I'm aware) with modern specs, looking forward to your opinions BSB
But it´s a Fender, beats 90% of the Warwicks out there lol (now I´m in trouble)
Regarding the low end signature models (Chinese/Korean made or what have you) I'll back you up on this BSB
-
On close inspection, I'm surprised to see Nate playing, maybe an American copy of his "signature" bass. . . I'll let you decide (Pictures from Merchant City Music and from the official Fender website) Take note of the headstock and signature. I like it but yet another Fender Mexican Artist model . . . . Whatever happened to letting the Japs continue thier beautiful guitars? Ain't ever heard a bad word from the Marcus Millers, Geddy Lee's and Sting basses. . . Mexicans I can hold a lot against, unfortunately UK store with Price: www.guitar.co.uk/guitars/bass_guitars/bass_4_string_bass_guitars/1287_fender_nate_mendel_p_bass BSB

Warwick alien?
-
Aye, I used to dig the old ones after Greg K, as you mentioned and Fieldy from KoRn using them. Proper monster basses but I just don't have the funds and wouldn't suit my style no more BSB
-
Saw a few pics on the interweb but didn't read anything "on what I did" on scale length +1 EB3L BSB
-
more than anything, i like the fact it will be a semi-hollow without a "Plus Top" and back like the Jack Cassady bass, that didn't sit well with my beer belly but like to see how this actually looks and feels in real life as to criticizing a picture XD EB3L? "L" for long scale, right? if so, i would LOVE one of them, current "SG" EB models are nice but too short for me BSB
-
It's the same with the midtown guitars they do, just a general flatter, thinner and I think, electric driven hollow body guitar as to what you mentioned. I know what you mean and yet I shallnt complain as I believe Gibson are trying their best to appeal to bassists and ill take my hat off to them for this as to the Flying V, LPJ an even the new 70's G3 (as apposed to a Standard model). BSB
-
Another new Gibson out, the Midtown standard bass. Like the guitar series it's a semi-hollow, electric bass featuring a full scale neck and both mini and max humbucker (exact from the SG bass range). A lot to read up on from the page but the array of finishes is pretty tasty as far as Gibson often give us bassists. Sunburst or red?
Hello and welcome from sunny Birkenhead! I do wonder why people refer to it as 'The' Wirral though? Short for 'the wirral peninsular' perhaps? But I digress, this is a very useful site for all things bass, and occasionally things that aren't...have fun
Better than saying "Hi from Rock Ferry" LOL
Yes, but it's a 1978 black Ripper
I believe you need his signature model now, just so you have the collection and then you can tell me all about it and donate it to me cos your uber cool ;P Love, BSB
I've got the old JCM800 Bass Series cabs as my main ones. 1 4x12 angled and 1 2x15 straight. Ideally, I'd love to get another matching pair at some point but I doubt anyone would let them go at what I got them for. I paid £240 for the 4x12 and £90 for the 2x15. I got the 2x15 so cheap because I had to travel to the ar5e end of london to go get it and picked the 4x12 up from Birmingham. Let me know what the cabinet is, what speakers it's loaded with and what sort of price you'd be looking for and I might sort a deal out with you at some point
I'd ideally like to sell both amp and cab together but nothing to say what will happen, however I will go back home soon, get pics, details and at least give you the heads up on the cab. All I can tell you at the moment its a 4x10, straight cab BSB -
The trick is eqing down the natural mids from your instrument, and replacing them with distortion products in the midrange, becuase the tone stack is mid cut only, but there is tons of distortion through the rest of the circuit. Everywhere else still tends to engineer the amps clean, and the distortion is pre eq.
Cheers matey BSB
