I want one big time! The slider has a really serious rock tone. Being made entirely of maple it has bags of harmonic warmth, bite and growl. Sort of like a P only better in every way in my opinion. Here's a pic of mine next to my old jazz. The neck is pretty big, weight is good. Not too heavy but by no means light. It's the only Gibson bass I've ever owned or played so I don't really have a lot of comparison. The pickup in the slider is a master piece IMO, they are also in the explorer bass so I'd love to get my hands on one of those too. If you weren't so far away I'd come have a go in a heart beat.
ohhh i know the one, me and Gust0o both drooled at this pic when he was showing me some sweet Gibsons on here haha XD BIG love for both of your basses, the red and the binding on the Jazz and the maple Gibson (quite a rarity?) is giving me bad GAS Would you take each kidney for each bass? i'm sure i could survive with that ^_^ Well, I was thinking maybe a meet up, i would love to give your grabber a whirl and you can use the LP PM me if your interested (Y) BSB
There's a white 77 TBird and a les Paul signature that should have been in there too. That was as silly as the collection got.
silly question but that is a KN sig RD bass to the left? if so/not, what do you make of it? I always thought a Gibson with (trad' fender) jazz pickups could have won some bassists across considering Fenders crazy pricing antics and "nothing altogether new" scenario but apparently not :-/ BSB
Mines a slider and again it's an incredible piece of kit. It's a bit of a one trick pony but the one trick it does is pretty empressive so you forgive it. It is my weapon of choice for recording and will be for gigging again once I get it's tuners stabilised. I think it's had a fairly hard life though, I imported it from the states a couple of years ago and it has been played within an inch of its life since. I'll post a pic when photo bucket starts working again. Tell me more about the LP bass. I think I want one.
I think i would like to try and own a slider, sort of like the J&P basses of the Grabbers How does it sound for a "one trick pony" ? The les Paul, sound wise is quite Mid- driven but still open to more lows and highs depending on which way you point the toggle and play with the knobs (Vol/Vol/Tone/Tone). Although, i pretty much have mine centered with knocking the EQ on my amp only a little to get 'my rock sound' but im sure more technical players than me can work it better for different genres but being a man of rock, you cant go wrong with this bass. The bass is heavy and thick due to the oversized body not too heavy when your using a nice thick strap but when you have it on your lap, you can feel it but it stays in one place- i do find the G3 being light, wider and thin it slides about. Bare in mind, this is the older model with the "Warwick styled" bridge, so the newer ones could be a lot lighter but i don't find this being a fault as if it was lighter, i'd just recommend the Epi Jack Cassady bass. The neck is pretty meaty, along the lines of a Pbass but i think it may be a bit too glossy for some peoples taste as it can get sticky time to time but its no problem if you keep your guitars in check and use Ernie Ball Wonder Wipes. I cant think of anything at the moment but if theres anything you'd like to know just ask and ill either find out for you or your very much welcome to come and give it a whirl. BSB

HELP reg replacing Gibson tuners.

Bass Direct looking to get from here so, take a look and see what you recommend BSB -
Hey guys, Looking for Gibson experts as I'm looking to change the machines' on my LP bass to "Clover" Ultralites and possibly my Tbird. Although i like the Gotoh's, they do work well and have worked better than previous modern "Y" styled tuners i've had i still have this constant worry of the plastic ring busting and left footing the bill for a new set or odd spare ring that looks out of place. Looking to get some Hipshot's thrown on them but before i do, does any know if they would fit without clashing and mainly toward the LP, if they'll still fit nice and snug in the molded case? Haters are going to hate, i expect some comments but hey, my basses biatches Help and opinions are appreciated BSB

PS: after thought, does anyone know if you boiled Elixirs or Warwick EMP's if it would affect the special coating? BSB
-
i did this for a short while throughout my high school days as my parents where tight as a (insert funny comment here). I can support you on that they where cleaner. If i remember correctly, there was a nice greasy film on top and a brown merk to the water itself. I don't think it added much back to the strings: technically they would have vibrated better than without but could have been my cheap as chips strings at the time. I read a post not long ago on here from a guy who owned a '76 (jazz i think) and had the original strings on and still going strong. If a process like this and a story like that really works, this could put a few businesses out of pocket BSB

Time for a new strap :) what to get?

Hey guys, Ive had my Levy's 3" strap in XL length (i believe) and it has served me well the last few years considering i'm a fussy bugger. The only problem is with the material has started to fray and harden: which leaves me with some beautiful rashes and scratches on my neck when i'm rocking out. Looking at the market lately and i feel liked i've missed something, the prices have risen somewhat :-| i dont think i paid £15 for this pretty awesome and durable strap but now im looking over £25 for the same style. Im wondering if anyone could recommend me any good straps to go for, for a 6"6 bulky lad who likes 2.5-3". Webbed or Leather? Thanks for reading and looking forward to hear some of your suggestions. BSB

Fender Highway precision one or CIJ?
bigsmokebass replied to highwayone's topic in General Discussion
personally, CIJ, just all round better feel and quality- if this is true or not it works as a good placebo BSB
