Very true but I like my strings to have a bit of zing and brightness as I find the humbuckers in the Gibsons are quite Mid range dominantated, the MM is easy but I like it to have some nice strings on to bring out the true charactistics (Looking in Marcus Miller DR's) and the fender is easy either way the strings go. If I do go down the route of trying strings I'll start with DR's and possibly some EBs before Warwick, Elixir and whatever else. BSB

Another kudos to Warwick for creating some incredible basses and following strict guidelines from the FSC and making everything environmentally friendly. Cant be easy and especially seeing what sh*t Gibson went through. Any idea if Sam Rivers will be getting a Sig bass? love his Warwick beasts. -
i had a look at an inflation calculator thing.... back in early 90's they cost about £1500 or so right? in todays money thats about £3000 - so not far off todays prices. Why I can pick up a secondhand 1990 streamer stage one in a nice hiscox case for £400 is a mystery i don't complain about!
Fair play but even the (Warwick) Rock Basses are fetching a few grand now, although their quality has improved a thousand times since as far as I can recall, it's just hard to own one of these basses now. Just saddens me that what I *could* afford now for a Warwick, the prices have moved on and even finding a decent enough secondhand Im still looking to spend a fair bit or they're a bit tatty. I just wanna Warwick -
Such a shame, rarely see a fantastic bass like this for such decent price... Hopefully another one will pop up soon.
I believe it was for trade: bass for bass and £45 for the delivery. Maybe I didn't catch the price if there was one :-S Aye, they do seem to pop up frequently so you'll find one soon enough. All the best getting a MM bass BSB

Found it on Thomann a lot cheaper and a price I think is fair for a Gibson

Hey guys, Just wanting to know if anyone has tried this bass and see what your verdict of it is? BSB
I've heard good things about Elixirs, again expensive but they last forever because they're coated. I thought they sounded a bit bland plus I had some earthing issues, but I seem to be in the minority.
same here but £35 on eBay for a 5 set, doesn't seem bad all in all but if they are bland as you say, seems pointless having them just because they last forever. Ive heard some what the same from Warwick EMP(?) strings, but yet nothing on how they sound. Roto's are always available and slightly cheaper than EB and think thats why i've always used them. Still sounding nice and bright on my SR5 today
Thank you, I like the feel of the neck, and the tone it puts out. I use one bass, so I spent the extra bucks on the Heritage Cherry. It reminds me of a Gibson EB0 I had in 1970. The D'Addario ETB92S Nylon Tapewound Strings are strung on the SG Std., and they sound great. A good smooth mellow tone, and a big bottom sound.
looks beautiful XD i prefer it to the Classic with the Dot inlays. have to get a sound/video clip on with your setup and the sound with the strings for me and Gust0o BSB
Welcome! I'm sure you'll like it here and perhaps can shed some light on why second hand Warwicks are so cheap! Or rather, why new Warwicks are so expensive?
My sentiments exactly BSB -
A belated, Welcome to the forum Would love to see and hear more about your 5str viola, sounds ace BSB

I always used the same string gauges I got with the bass and replaced them every 6 weeks as i enjoyed the chunky B and the trebely D & G so I never saw a problem until the neck started to curl, lol, I'm not saying theyre bad strings, perhaps just a bad set but i can't see for any other reason why this would bow other than the tension from the strings??? Bare in mind I have 4 basses together in cases, the Gibsons and the Fender always with Roto's and the MMSR5 with EB's until recently. It's fine with the Roto's, tried it tonight and they're still pretty fresh BSB
I was a bit naive thinking that mine was worth more. I've found a bass that I could've easily paid several thousand for with a tone to die for. This is how a jazz should sound like! I hardly notice the scale length as I only play this at the moment. It had its first big tonight with the Jazz-drum and bass trio (tracks will be up here after we go to the studios) Thanks to all for the help. I can see myself sticking with this bass for life!
I do love the Fender Marcus Miller bass, it is one I have been after for lng while and will eventually own when I think the price is right with me but the lakland basses are extremely nice. I think I'd prob find myself owning a few of these (especially the Decade ^_^) before owning the fender. I'm a big guy myself and never really found any scale length a problem, although with the TBird I have adjust the strap a little to compensate the whole length of the bass. But is there much tone gain/loss with a 35" or is it there for the B? BSB
They sound great, how do you get them to last a whole week though?
I've only really used Roto's but the occasional Warwicks and EBs, never really tried to venture any further ^_^ What strings tend to last and within a budget?

So the bass he played . . . . Was it the German or Chinese one?
-
So, it`s a German instrument company, the bass is built in China and it has a Union Jack painted on it? Sounds about right! Quick question. Has any pro other than Macca or guys in tribute bands ever been seen using one of these?
Incubus i know hes used it live and found on the "love hurts" video

FS: Music Man Stingray5 2010. On hold
bigsmokebass replied to bigsmokebass's topic in Basses For Sale
This bass is a BEAUT'!! i don't think the pictures do it much justice (although it lets you gather the finish) it fits like a glove to my prev SR5's and sound as awesome as ever. i dont need to butter this up at all, these basses have a reputation that talk for themselves and an array of current and past players to show how these beats work. unfortunately i keep taking this back every time i sell because it is soooo good but for the past 18 months i have never used the B string [sub]edit: spelling[/sub] -
ohhh i see how it goes, you clear your mess for her collection to start. . . you didnt hear it from me
That was the very first thing I played when I first picked up a bass (the 2nd 1/2 of it). That was 28 years ago!
Goes to show what a good song it is The first part isn't bad either for starting off and then progress into the second half. BSB
