I meant the squier 51, like the one in my pic. TBH I've never tried the mudbucker ver but I had picked one up and had some weight to it! <3 gotta love a heavy bass My problem is, I've tried so many sh*t quality basses, mostly ibanez and Indonesian and once I felt the American and Japanese made basses I've not put one down or bought any budget basses since. Some say I'm spoilt lol Never to say these budget basses won't take over though, I think squier and the fender MIM's are getting better with time. The bass in question, I can see this going far and possibly Fender making it into a standard model with the demand for modded/reproduced, vintage basses from Squier and Fender.

I think having options is all well and good but surely that's something for the custom shop/other brands? I agree there are too many, I would much prefer a standard bass or even a Jap or American and still just have 1 of 3 colours, 2 fretboard choices and just the JJ/P pickup configuration depending on what bass. I think as much as basses, it's more so the series that's out growing, have one limited series a year and standard all year, every year? It is stupid having so many though. The more lower end models they bring out, it drives the higher end up and up. Back 3years ago (dispite the times and "inflation") I could have bought a Marcus Miller 4 and 5 string together, less than the 5 string alone today and still have change to buy a hard case, combo and ect ect The one thing I hold Fender for is being "simple" and that's what we love, right? if I wanted anything sophisticated, I'd save up and buy a Dingwall for no more than thier top end, stock looking models. Here's hoping Fender start to wind down and just stick to quality than quantity.

I totally dig this bass, never a Gibson lover (ALWAYS a fender player) until I picked it up and played it. Price these days too, could save yourself a good £200 if your a savvy shopper than to prices 2 years ago or so. Do consider and try before you buy! All the best

No offence and dont want to be picky but I hate the squier '51: nothing in comparison other than the shape and finish. Alternatively, Squier does offer better quality to the beginner and budget end player, so not all bad I think for the price of the new MP Pbass, you could pretty much pick up a MIJ/CIJ '51 2nd hand. The pick up configuration on the MP is one I'd like to try out after seeing a custom shop in USA sporting it, sort of "pawn shop" look and feel to it but the overall look is quite cheap looking that I don't see why they haven't added this to that series! I wish you all the best trying to find this bass or what you need to know of it (no harm in calling up guitar stores ;] )

Excellent bass, a shame you thought of trading/selling it but all down to personal pref and what sound/image you want. I agree with trying the flats but more so the comment on lowering the EQ or possibly a valve amp for a warmer tone? All the best matey and keep us updated

The only new colour is the blue, surely? Im still hoping these are MIJ/CIJ than Mex made. The MP series looks awful IMO and I'd be surprised if they're MIM considering price range :-X

Anyway, bottom line, for us, we can use them with bass amps and pedals, no need for specialist equipment or needing to switch over. seen a few old basses like this but mostly seems to be laquer, im no expert but your best going to your nearest guitar sales/repair store as they could tell you more :-/ wish i could be of more use to you.

i started on a westfield pbass copy (with package from guitar.co.uk for £150) and havent had 1 problem and i'd even gig and possibly record with it now even with the basses i own. hope this helps and wish you the best with playing whichever you get BSB

i think you'll find ibanez basses from a decade ago or over tend to beat the crap out of the most recent series. once tried a mid 90's SR and loved it to pieces but hadnt the funds.

i believe so and that is a decent bass too. always foubd the jap basses better than the americans, par the classics.
