Are there any stock Fender P-basses with a Jazz neck?
Emanew replied to fretmeister's topic in Bass Guitars
Interestingly, they called it the Fender Jazz Bass Special, which i thought was odd, as it was only the neck and bridge pickup that gave you any hint to a jazz bass pedigree.
This "strange" Jazz Bass Special (written on the headstock) was my first fretless bass : definitively a PB look (body shape and pickup) but named JB ??? Only due to neck dimension and bridge PU added ? If you take time to think about it, it can be logical : the JB's personality comes from THIS bridge PU added to neck one, AND the thin neck. So one day i understood its name. Am i wrong ? Whatever the name, it gives you large possibilities and fine ergonomy. Chuck Dunn can't be wrong. Mine was passive and TOTAL BLACK (hardware, body, neck headstock). I loved it These basses are well designed and built but cheap. Let's hunt and take care of them... -
I owned two Nash guitars and they were both extremely good. Take a look at the unbranded headstocks on a number of extremely well known (and rich like Trujillo and Geddy Lee) bass players fender type basses and you'll see the nash sharpie on the back of the headstock. Cheap ass cack they are not. Whether you like the relic thing is another matter but that's personal prefs...
I agree with that. I tried once a 57 PB and the real feeling was there. Thanks for posting, Happy Jack ! I wish i could fly to UK in 10 seconds... I must find a Superman suit. Any advice ?

Thick question - is there a Musicman with a thinner neck?
Emanew replied to Gust0o's topic in Bass Guitars
No doubt, like my fellows i would say : Sterling is the answer for MM thicker neck search... Ernie Ball called it like his son : Sterling After all this bass is Stingray'son, isn't it ? Well, let's come back to music : Sterling 5 HH. What a beast ! http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=akwJz_KRlW8 -
A Thumb is on "The LIst" My eyes were opened to Warwick only in the last few years, I never really considered them for a long time but I dearly love the sound out of my Streamer. I seem to remember Terence Trent D'Arby's bassist had a pink one way, way back, it always stuck in my mind.
Yes, i found that TTDA' clip few months ago. Grooving..... http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FcUmIRw0N5w
That's the one. Cool. will take a punt I reckon. Doesn't have to be brilliant, just functional at this stage. I know they aren't the greatest cases ever made, but they do the job and the fact that it's cheap enough is a bonus, cause good gear is harder to find here. I have one of the new American Standard SKB cases and it's the mutt's nuts! Bought new through a shop for 300NZD so around 150 quid-ouch!
I confirm : this type of 7.... molded Bass case fits classics bodies shapes. I had one with a bass and i both use it for my P and JB. If you plan to buy it: is it a second hand case or brand new one ? If it is brand new, for the same price, i would choose another trademark than 7.... because IMO you pay, above all, the logo and the quality is not always here. When Leo was running 7.., MM or G&L the cases didn't look cheap. If it is a "roadworn" case, for a decent price, it will do the job being made of resistant plastic. If you need pictures of the basses in the case, i can shoot few ones . Keep on grooving

There is a kind of Grace in this...

There is no doubt about the difference between a rockbass and a European WW ( lutherie, ergonomy, details, Wood, look...). Fortunatly i would say because why would you pay for ? To talk a little about China situation, i refuse to buy a chinese bass when i see movies about real slavery happening over there. Poor people. I wish chinese workers could have decents working conditions. I will seriously check it if i plan to buy a "made in China" Rockbass. Human rights associations give the real situation about Apple, Nike, etc ... for examples. To come back to Aliens basses prices, i was talking about the difference between a Alien Rockbass 6er and a Alien 6er "sharp horn" body. I plan to compare prices lists.
-
Oh yes, i didn't notice the first post was a Rockbass 6er. I watched a new time to the 2nd vid and the bassist says Rockbass. Both real beautiful lutheries. Usually the difference is much obvious between a Rockbass and European made. Actually, i prefer the round shape body, it looks to me more balanced : round headstock and body, curve global design so...round horn is logical.;-) Anyway, given that prices are not identicals i presume, i have to check if it does worth the difference. The body looks quite big, doesn't it ? The guys don't look little.

One day 15 years ago, i tried to have my fingerboard coated on my rosewood fretless. I didn't like the experience. Sound/tone : i didn't recognise my rosewood fingerboard with the epoxy. Too many high frequencies, it sounded too hard for me. I came back rapidly to the original fingerboard. Wear with round/flatwounds : -Without coat, my 72 JB rosewood fingerboard is still in good shape even with roundwounds. - I have a ebony fingerboard on my Godin with rounwounds for 10 years , there are marks but nothing serious. - On my Takamine B10 (ebony fingerboard), i switched with flatwounds 5 years ago and on THIS bass i really like the sound. It sings enough for me with the acoustic conception. less mwah but closer the doublebass sound. On my others basses, i only plays roundwounds. Feel : with a coated fingerboard, it seems to play speeder but IMO i loose the sound so no coat for me. I would end by saying : nothing better than a "natural" ebony fretless. I hope it will help.
Only with the lights out
:-))))) Splendid ! But Alphonso Johnson IS black. Is it the confusion ? Great Bass Master whatever the lights.... -
According to my experience, changing pickups or preamp are not the main way to change your sound. The point is : what is your pickup position on your bass ? it is fundamental. Closer to the bridge or neck ? A Precision can not sound like a Jazz Bass whatever the electronic. Secondly, Warwick basses have this particular tone. It is obvious with D and G strings. You do the right thing by getting upper your PU on D and G str. What wood is used for your warwick body and neck ? The strings gauge can also change the sound better than preamp. Conclusion Your Bass has its personnality (due to PU position and Wood) and no Preamp will definitly change it. You have simpler ways. Good groove
Found this one recently. Seems good. Lots of info for the old gear. Its confirming what I suspected with my P. Not 76, but a very early 75. S/N # Info near the end. Respects and congrats.

Hi rocker, No worries, it is simple to fix with the truss rod. Is it a brand new bass ? Did you change your strings few days ago ? Good groove.
