Concerning Jaco, The Himalaya, i understand your thoughts. Of course he almost "resume" this bass, as John Coltrane did with the Tenor sax. Above all, Jaco created a Style, or Spirit. Pino Palladino extended this Heritage with a... Stingray, Mick Karn with a...Wal, Jean-Marc Jafet with an... Ibanez So unless you try to clone Jaco's playing, i think that there are various manners to find a personnal way with a JB : touching differently the strings, using flats or mixing the 2 pick-ups, etc... You will find cause you are an artist. Surrender to the perfection of a Jazz Bass Its Design : simplicity, ergonomy, various colors beauty, elegance... I used to own 6 JB at the same time, i am an addicted, in love with this thin neck and asymetric body This woman Meshell Ndegeocello, great Artist, shows how to have a personnal voice with its flatwounds geared Jazz Bass. She lighted my way and point of view in 1993. Sound, Groove, Charism, Freedom http://youtu.be/uSJxP3Cy9qc

Hi fellow Groovers ! I am looking for low tension flatwounds strings. I heard about Labella strings. They are known for strong gauges BUT... There are 2 Labella sets having extra-light gauge. 1- A quite new set called LOW TENSION FLEXIBLE FLATS, 042 - 056 - 070 - 100 2 - The classic DEEP TALKIN’ BASS, Flatwounds – EXTRA LIGHT 760FX, 039 - 056 - 077 - 096 The LOW TENSION has a bigger G and E gauge string than the DEEP TALKING extra light 760FX, but a weaker A string. Why did Labella create a LOW TENSION set stronger than the already existing "classic" DEEP TALKING extra light ? Is it a matter of materials ? fashion ? I wish someone could give me feedback about these 2 sets. Thanks by advance

Thumb Bass is the Warwick Bass I play 2 Thumbs a 1989 5 str fretted and a 1993 6 str fretless With its long thin necktrough wenge neck, the 5er has a "very rare" low B. This neck design and bridge position for the 2 Jazz pickups really make the difference.

Here the 70's Fender finishes i found in "The Fender Bass, a illustrated History". I took pictures of my book, i hope it can be read You can add the very late 70's Antigua I am also crazy about Capri Orange and Sahara Taupe but they were created in 1980 so for your 77/78 project it doesn't match.

I own a fretted Zenith, i love its gypsy look and its mixed magnetic PU -"Hollow body"-"piezo" sound. Some basses had problems (Gibson discontinued) but if you find a good one, you can improve it easily (bone nut, oil on the rosewood fingerboard and bridge, to decrease strings highness by adding a piece in the pocket neck...) I wish i could try a fretless one. There a cool review on YT by Ed Friedland. I think i talked about this instrument here on BC, check my posts

FT / For Sale - Fender Precision Bass 59' NOS CUSTOM SHOP-SOLD-
Emanew replied to georges's topic in Basses For Sale
