1. I love theses basses. I play a Roadster RS 900 (maple fingerboard fretless) and i use to play a 940 Musician, fretless, of course i have an addiction http://www.ibanez.co...cat_id=41&now=1 In this Ibanez catalog, you can see (written in little in the text under the Musician 940 bass) that the dark fingerboard is an ebony one. Ibanez used often this wood. You roadster looks to have a ebony fingerboard. It may be a special order from the first owner or a limited edition. here my previous 940 Musician, ebony FB These instruments were seriously made and designed as my luthier would say. In excellent condition, these basses worth at least 400£.
2. Good advices here, This dead spot doesn't seem to be too serious Torben, did you see a luthier ?
3. ON HOLD
4. I have 2 stock EMG JJ pick ups on my old 89 WW Thumb 5 (with a 9V MEC preamp) and i think they fit this exotic lutherie : they don't colour the instrument' sound, when i plug i refind what i hear unplugged. Even on vintage ( fashionnable in the 80's) it can work. A matter of personal taste Nowadays the great Bobby Vega (Tower of Power and more) has EMG pu both on Its JB and Precision http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkKXDtKesR4
5. Good evening fellow groovers I just answered your PMs, Here a "Major" french bassist & singer, Sylvie Borzakian. Groove and elegance. http://sylvieborzaki....fr/instru.html With Marcus Miller
6. Thanks ! It is waiting for grooving in new hands As i have an opportunity, i offer shipping.
7. Thanks jaydentaku, its minimalistic look ( no knobs, no pickguard, no magnetic pickups...) seduced me at the first sight. Groovers, I just answer the PMs
I had one exactly like this, I think Godin called it the 'Acoustibass'. They sound fantastic.
You are right. For the guitars, it was Acousticaster. A friend has one : telecaster body shape and nylon strings. Very cool look and sound.
8. Thanks for all these beautiful dark fingerboards ! Here's mine as i still have it. Total black and ebony (fingerboard, thumbrest and bridge)
9. Another picts
10. Good evening fellows ! Thanks for your kind words. I just answer your messages. Here more pictures as i was asked for.
11. I vote 64 sunburst. I've got a crunch on.... 3TS even if this one is missing some larger black contour. Cool anyway
12. Actually this £ 0:00 price means : the instrument has just been sold, no more available.... They always do like that
13. ON HOLD Hello, I sell my Godin LR Baggs fretless Canadian Godin fine Lutherie. Handmade in early 1990s in Canada and not in Asia (it is not A4). Jazz bass look. LR Baggs 18V Preamp giving a wide sound pallet : from the double bass to a solid body (if you change for roundwound strings). At present loaded with flatwound strings. Ebony Fingerboard safe and warn sound. Thin maple neck. Hollow body with a harp integrated, Godin patented. Ebony Bridge and long thumb rest. Piezo pickups Golden tuners. Bass in excellent state with a rare black finish. 790 £ Comes with a light hardcase FX .
14. I own several fender vintage basses. My 60's have rounder fingerboard and thin neck ( thin D shape) My 70's have flatter fingerboard and rounder neck shape. When i play, the fingerboard curve doesn't mainly influence my feeling but neck shape MUCH more as i have "little" hands. Actually it is a duo : fingerboard-neck shape. 70's Flatter fingerboard are easier for slapping IMO. That's why modern basses (as you said) are designed with this choice. 60's Rounder FB and thin neck suit my fingerstyle playing. I hope it helps.
15.
What!?!?!? I just bumped into this topic-from what I understood, the original Jaco Jazz was bought by Trujillo (and in currently being used by him?)
Yes, Robert Trujillo said that he "sponsored" by buying the Bass to the seller, letting time to the Pastorius familly to find the amount. Explanations here : http://www.fender.co...lay_article=533 Jaco's Bass of Doom Picts reborn in 1987 thanks to Kevin Kaufman (friend and personal luthier of Jaco) http://www.taringa.n...En-Ingles_.html A video of great bassists playing Jaco's bass, stolen 1987 Just after it was refound in 2008 A post on TB http://www.talkbass....-player-416089/

SOLD

Beautiful full blonde Bass and fair price. Advice for James : beware the new 36h for sale items rules.
17. Warwick Official will tell us more. But what i know : these neck changes happened much after Wood changes, Wenge to Ovangkol in late 90's. I used to own a Thumb necktrough 4 string, beautiful instrument but the neck was to round and thin for me. When i found a 5 string Thumb it was perfect for me, a slim D shape. I only kept this one.
18. Beautiful JBs in here ! Here's mine : 1989 Fender Jazz Bass 62 American Reissue. My little hands & fingers love its neck, wonderfully thin and flat (thin D shape). As you talked about black blocks on the fingerboard, here my 1972-73 Jazz Bass in Olympic white. EDIT : it is better with direct links. But i can't add them with my smartphone, only with my computer. Don't know why.
19. I know that about Warwick necks changes
20. Hi Umcoo ! No orthodoxy of 60's Fender religion for me ! For your future bass, choose what inspires you and you'll play better IMO : when i "love" the instrument i feel stronger. I found that : great Bobby Vega ! He also played in Tower of Power.
21. Just for pleasure, The refound and reborn Bass of Doom played by Victor Bailey mainly, and Will Lee, Victor Wooten. Each bassist has HIS sound even with The Bass of Doom... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mp1L-Vw0Ems&feature=youtube_gdata_player
22. I just vote for Orange. Maple and Orange fit A maple neck : non common choice for a 60's Jazz Bass look. it was an option in these days. EDIT : i found a beautiful example : http://oliviasvintag...s/guitars/1898/
23. I tried a Jaco Signature and my feeling isn't as good as i have with my old JB US reissue 62 fretted. It doesn't mean all Jaco Artist Signature are bad. I am going towards the Jaco JB Tribute. A video with the standart Jaco Artist signature Jazz Bass: Another with the Custom shop Jaco Pastorius Tribute Jazz Bass :
24.
Bet that sounds fat. My L-2000 mostly gets used on the neck alone.
This Bass gives a special sound. It comes from Leo's PU, ebony fingerboard and mahogamy body i supposed. I am not a Precision tone lover but i must admit that instrument has something. I wish i could find a L2000E. Maple neck. Yours is here ?
25. You summarize perfectly my approach, dear JohnF ! You speak like a wise man. Thanks For me, the point is : to find a good instrument ( with a cool look ) with the specifications ( neck shape, woods, tuners, PU type and position, coat ) i am looking for. I ask for other experiences and chating with fellow bassists.
