Well you've got a much better sense of humour than the last guy who started a thread like this, fair play!
We shouldn't take ourselves too seriously. I enjoy the forum, couldn't imagine getting tetchy over a 'I like this and you like that' debate. I'm more of a reader than a poster... hhhhmmmmmm I wonder why! Humility, the world could use some.
LOL, nicely taken on the chin mate. I must admit, I prefer heavy gear, but know so little about what makes gear good I simply leave it at that
Me neither. I've only ever owned 4 gigging amps and my preference changes like the wind. That said, there are alot of bassChatters that know what ther're talking about, or at least they talk a good game. You can learn a lot from silly statements on BC, and they rarely beat you up that badly. I think I'll keep me 'ead down for a few weeks and sneak back in when no one's looking.

I posted on TalkBass and it's official... UTTER TOSH indeed. Hope everyone had a nice time venting. Yours, Phil. Maybe I should change my sig!

Americans like everything BIG, I think my thread will get a more positive response on TB
Hahaha, i love these threads! However, the OP needs to ditch that Trace sh1t and get an SVT with an 8x10, anything else and he's just kidding himself: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...ding+themselves In other news: Flea is better than Mark King Jazzes beat Precisions PCs are for men, Macs are for boys Tabs will give you AIDS Slagging Muslims off is "racist"
I love these threads too, you guys make me laugh. Even if you are right.
Is this related to penis size somehow? Like having a big macho car? Hmmmmmm......
I hope not, I drive a Fiat Punto. That makes me tiny.

I started playing about 20yrs ago then stopped for a number of years. Two years ago I started playing again, but in the meantime all the gear had changed. The lightweights had appeared. There are a lot of lightweight threads and interest in the new fandangled lightweight gear. So much so that I ended up going down that road myself. I bought a Markbass CMD102P 18KG and 300W and what I believed to be a great sound, loud, clean, plenty of bottom... That was untill I got my new rig - Trace Elliot V6 head and Eden D410XLT. The new rig (Trace/Eden) is secondhand and cost about 1200Euros and weighs 60+ kilos. The old rig (Markbass) was new and cost around 1200Euros and weighed 18 kilos. The sound of the big and heavy stuff - Deeper, fatter, bassier, ballsier, crunchier, smoother, sweeter and the rest. Trade in the kilos and you trade in sound quality. Some brands with boutique price tags can limit the damage but at the end of the day BIG(and heavy) = Beautiful. Be a man and start lifting the weights! Phil.
If you have to get a second cab get an 8 ohm Eden 210XLT. All 6 speakers will then get the same volume so they will balance, rather than a 4 ohm 210 which will get the same power as the 410. An Eden 610 would sound pretty good.
The guy at Eden customer support said,"I'd go with the 2x10xst at 8 Ohms, it has slightly more bottom than the xlt and will complement the 4x10 perfectly.

Thanks for your input guys. I love my current sound so I think I'll be going with the 10's.

What goes well with Marshall mbc cabs???
Bloc Riff Nut replied to rafael_bassplayer's topic in Amps and Cabs
hay guy i want to know What goes well with Marshall mbc cabs??? because as much as i love my Marshall MB450H i really want to try other amp heads that are lighter and just as good as the marshall mb head, even valve amp i been thinking about getting BUT i need to get an amp head that goes down to 2ohm!! PLEASE HELLP and am open for a trade as well
Trace Elliot V6 can be used with either a 4 Ohm or 2 Ohm load. You can see the switch in the bottom right! By blocriffnut at 2011-04-15 By blocriffnut at 2011-04-15 A lovely warm valve amp. -
Hi guys(and the odd lady, here and there), I'm thinking about expanding my current set-up. I'm playing Eden D410XLT (4Ohm) through a Trace Elliot V6 (2-4Ohm switchable). I need something for home practice, that is also compatible with the existing D410xlt. I can't use the 4x10 at home, I can't get it up the stairs. I was thinking about either the Eden D210XLT or the Eden D115XLT. Both are available at 4 Ohms. What are the pro's 'n'cons. Would the 2 10's sit much tighter with the existing 4 10's? Would a 15 give me what the 10's aren't? Your thoughts would be appreciated. Cheers, Phil.
heres my rig, coming together at last...
L ve the MB setup, I sold my CMD102P a few days ago-it lacked umph with the 5 string. I'll bet your 15 makes up for that. NICE.
Bet it sounds great though! That's all of it right there man. I'd love a tube head... but I'm happy with what I have to be happy with!
I'll just have to keep working out, otherwise I won't be able to lift it
Maybe I'm looking at a different EBS web site to you, but the one I can see has a Classic Line 2x12 at 4 Ohms. However, mixing cabs with different drivers is not guaranteed to give the results you expect and IMHO you would be better off to buy a second 4x10 .
You were indeed looking at the same site, you were just looking better. I simply did a 'man scan'. oops. Oh, I just read a few mixing drivers threads, A BAD IDEA! So I'm gonna stick with the 10x4 and wait for a Barefaced Super 12 to rear its lovely head. Thanks for removing that stupid idea from my head
-
I want to be able to use the cabs independently so the 8 Ohm 10x2 won't work. The Barefaced 12's is an awesome idea(a dream). I forgot to mention that I'm looking to buy secondhand and barefaced rarely see more than 1 owner, we all know why.
And they are talking about PA speakers! As someone who designs and builds BASS GUITAR speakers I'd contend that my advice is more relevant and thus more accurate. If you take the time to read everything here: http://barefacedbass.com/technical-information.htm and here: http://barefacedbass.com/bgm-columns.htm you may then understand what I'm talking about. If you already know all about power density, the lowpass filtering of voice coil inductance and the crest factor of typical bass guitar vs typical program material then my apologies for wasting your time.
I thought I was English, but after reading that last sentence I'm having doubts...

Hi guys, I'm playing a 300w valve head(V6) through a 4x10 cab(EBS Classic Line) rated at 4 Ohms. The Trace head is switchable between 4 and 2 Ohms. Ideally I want to extend the set up with 12x2 0r a 1x15 at 4 Ohms (maybe even a 10x2). EBS dont do a Classic Line 12 or 15 at 4 Ohms so I might have to change brand/make completely. My first choice would be Trace but I can''t find any 12'' or 15'' stuff rated at 4 Ohms. Any ideas? for a 10x4 + (12x2 or 15x1) all cabs rated at 4 Ohms. Weight and price (within reasonable limits) are of no concern. Space however is, there's only so much you can fit into a Fiat Punto By blocriffnut at 2011-04-15
And the back as well.
I think the pic you posted, what a beauty by the way, is a V8.
-
No. The V8 has a DI on the back, the V6 doesn't.

Even though it all seems pretty obvious, I just wanted to be sure ;-)
I've never heard of using a balanced XLR out to connect to a speaker cabinet. Are sure that isn't the D.I. out? I could be wrong of course :/
The DI is on the front. This is on the rear panel indicated with the word speaker ;-)
