Hi guys I've got a quick question about fuzz/OD on bass. I play in a band and until recently I've just been a bass-lead-amp guy. Hpwever, we're only a three piece and every so often I think the bass parts could do with some dirt to fill out the sound (and also to make the rocking numbers rock more!!). I started out by trying my USA Big Muff and my Proco RAT (I'm also a guitarist) on the bass. They sound good on their own, but disappear in the mix (classic problem). So I acquired a Boss LS2 for blending in clean signal (I am NOT going down the two amp route). I've been relatively happy with the results, but having to carry around two pedals and multiple patch cables is a bit irritating. I'd rather just take one pedal with me, so I've been eyeing up bass specific distortions---mainly the Tech21 Bass XXL and the EHX Bass Big Muff. I guess the question is---will I get much out of these pedals other than convenience? Is it worth splashing out for bass specific pedals or will I get much the same result from LS2 + guitar pedal? Cheers Sam
The Markbass 'Distorsore' lets you blend clean and dry signals. There are also 2 filters high /low which give you the choice of distorting lows or highs giving you control over the overall colour of the signal. A great valve distortion.
Don't buy the Diago one, buy this instead: http://www.johnnyshredfreak.com/store/inde...;products_id=12 It's identical and a fraction of the price. I've compared both and they really are the same, they must both buy them from the same manufacturer. I know the Diago one says it's 3A and the Johnny Shredfreak one says 1500ma but the manual for the Johnny Shredfreak one says it can go up to 3A. I have two (total overkill) and they've been great.
Oops, just back from the shop. Bought the diago Powersupply. 85Euro's. Powers all but the MB Distorsore and Microsynth. Thanks for the tip. Maybe nxt time.
i use up to 9 x 9v pedals and my mb comp & 18v mxr blowtorch (special daisychain adaptor required) on two daisy chains. if i had more pedals i'd plug them in too ! they're tiny, but great units and there's no reason that you couldn't have more than one 12v pedal inline that i know of... they have no 24v compatability, so the bms would need it's own supply, but still, a lot less bulk.
That's great to hear Philistein, I'm off to the shop to try it out. I'll let you know how it goes. Phil.
i take it you didn't go for the diago p.s. then ? that and a 24v adaptor for the EHX BMS should have it covered
I didn't think I could power the 12v Markbass units from it.

I'm rather new to pedalboard pleasure, but this is what I've accumulated within the last 6 months. Centre +ve 24v DC 30mA EHX Microsynth Centre -ve 12v DC 500mA Markbass Compressore Centre -ve 12v DC 600mA Markbass Distorsore Centre -ve 09v DC 50mA Chunk Systems Agent Funk MKII (in the post) Centre -ve 09v DC 200mA Boss OC-2 Centre -ve 09v DC 180mA Pog2 Centre -ve 09v DC 10mA EBS Micorbass II Centre -ve 09v DC 015mA EBS Unichorus Centre -ve 09v DC 600mA Korg Pitchblack (the manual says "at least 600mA", surely this can't be right). I'm fed up with the adapters and cables, and the room they take up in the pedalboard.I can't seem to find power-brick type solution. Would this work? T-Rex Juicy Luicy; 5 x isolated 12v DC 300mA, Combine 2 of these for Markbass Distorsore (Juicy Lucy comes with 1 x current doubler cable). Combine 2 more for the Markbass Compressore. (will have to orde another current doubler). Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2 Plus; 4 x 9/12v DC 100mA isolated, Combine 2 for EHX Microsynth (and use a polarity reversing plug for the centre +ve). The other 6 can be powered from the Voodoo. WILL IT WORK ?
You obviously could because you edited your post You are also British.
I missed out the 'any' , and when I read it, it sounded silly. Yes, I am English. I live in Holland and I can tell you th Dutch don't suffer from this affliction. They're sooner good at something than not. Even if they do say so themselves. Good on 'em!
Other people think I'm good, but when I play by myself at home I often think I suck really badly. All I know is that I like to play and others like playing with me, so I'm going to go with those thoughts.
Wow! I couldn't have put it any better.

Can listening to music benefit my child?

Can listening to music benefit my child?
Can't hurt can it? My childhood musical memories are of the likes of Queen, Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin et al. Actually, apprently babies/tods listening to classical music makes them more intelligent (gives them lass ADHD or something like that), maybe some smooth bass would make them more laid back and 'cooler' in later life? The only downside to my own musical childhood was that it kinda stuck with me throughout my school years and the only people I could have conversations with about such music were teachers. Not such a great thing.
I grew up listening to my mother's favourite Barry Manilow. My older sister then started playing Michael Jackson and Spandau Ballet and Phil Collins. Then in my teenage years I got into Metallica and NWOBHM. Now I'm listening to Lilly Allen, Led Zep and Sabbath and the usual suspects from bass world( McCartney,Bootsy,Jac,Pino,Flea,Victoren M Miller etc) It's a long and winding road. Maybe it doesn't matter where you begin, as long as you begin... Otherwise you risk your children falling into the 'I LIKE IDOLS, CAN'T THEY SING WELL' trap. And we sure as hell don't want that happening! -
If and when I'm graced with children I'm planning on beginning early with his/her musical education/indoctrination. As most of us hear ;-) are music mad, I was wondering what you guys are subjecting the kids to. I was thinking along the lines of soothing 6 string fretless melodies

Hi Peds, These guys know everything, don't hesitate to ask. I, on the other hand, know nothing. I just ask them. Greetings, Phil.
I don't massively get on with Sansamps. I think I'm looking for a Tonehammer or possibly an M-80 at a push. Unless anyone has anything ultra cool and interesting to offer? I don't really need a super clean and boring DI - I have something along those lines already.
What about a pristine (still in box) Markbass compressore with a cash insentive ;-) Make my day, Phil.
I think you can get extra large covers off ebay that might fit the higher mass bridges, although ive never heard of anyone getting one to fit a BAII. I actually replaced the pups in my HW-one Jazz with Wizards and it transformed the bass. I just love the tone i get from it now, and it was good to start with. I guess im just agreeing that Wizards are a great upgrade and very cheap.
I was already considering wizards, they get great reviews at a reasonable price. The 'high-mass vintage' bridge keeps the vintage look (but it's covered ;-/ ), so this is my choice. Now I just need to research pot meters.
