For those that don't know ,Mr Derek Forbes has been Baseman for Big Country for the past couple of years , touring and recording. He took over after Tony Butler packed it in.

In my view the Squire TelecasterBass is top notch and excellent value.

Stick with what you have for now - you could get a few good basses for £1000 & start a collection! -

You can't keep a good man down.

Ta, the reason i thought about doing the middle is because that's where the pickup wires are soldered onto. it's also got one of these copper(?) strips from the bridge to the bridge pickup..
-
I'm trying to replace the original pickups with a set of Wilkinsons, and before I botch it i thought I'd ask for advice. I've replaced picups on a Fender Jazz and that was fairly straightforward but these look quite a bit different wiring wise. Here's a pic of what's there just now and here's the ones I want to stick in Should I just solder everything onto the middle pot? Any advice gratefully received

Howabout the bandstand in Kelvingrove Park - don't know if you can just sneak in and film though... Is that , eh, "vibey" enough for drummerboy? -
I have a Fenix maple neck Jazz from late 80s. It sounds incredible. The stock PUs are the weak point, though. As mentioned before very low output, microphonic, not very detailed. I swapped mine to Rockinger PUs which turned out to be a huge improvement. Couldn´t be happier with a 180€ bass + 110€ PUs.
Go on lets see it then! Yeah I think the pickups will need to be changed - is it easily done? there's a lot of wires in there!
There's an old Fenix thread here in case you hadn't seen it; http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1 I've got E737656 - very much like yours but all black never seen the crazy paving finish before Cheerz, John EDIT: Just noticed it's in my signature, yes I reckoned mine's '87 so as Jon says - most likely 87-88, only 278 difference in the numbers
Thanks - I've had a look at that ,very interesting, we're practically related, Cuz!! How's yours doing ?

I've got a loan of this Epiphone Rivoli from a friend who'd originally got it in exchange for a futon . He'd lent it to someone else who somehow managed to break the headstock but didn't mention it to my friend until he returned it , and was quite unapologetic about it ... Anyway glue and clamps applied and it seems to play fine & probably could do with a good setup. I haven't played it in a band situation but it's got a real thump on it's own, and , it's looks pretty damn cool . Here's the repair/damage!

Stuck a pic of this in the Porno section , but thought I'd post more here. I bought this this fairly recently from a warden at Barlinnie Prison. He said he'd bought it from someone how said it'd been used on a Tears for Fears album - there you go! I reckon it'd been stored in a garage/shed /loft as it need some drying out and one of the pots was knackered. Thanks to Bassassin's help it probably dates back to 1987/88. A couple of the tuners were also a bit knacked so I stuck on a couple I had from another Jazz. It's now been set up nicely, I like the sound but it's a little low output & thought about changing the pickups but I think i'll leave it for now. I must say it's a quality bass, I'm told that the finish is of questionable taste!! Any one else got experience of Fenix?
I don't remember reading Gerry Mcavoy being considered (not mentioned in his book IIRC). However, Rory Gallagher was a contender to replace Mick Taylor, even jamming with the band for a few days. This is mentioned in Gerry's book. I'm glad he didn't, as a big Rory fan, I hate to think what we might have missed out on. Saying that, you never know if he did, he may still have been around, which would have been the greatest gift.
I havent read Gerry's book - is it worth a read? Donal Gallagher described it as Riding Roughshod - not a great endorsement! Mixed emotions .... .... about Rory & the Stones - don't think it'sd have been a long term arrangement but a brief encounter might've been interesting. Agree 100% about him still being around-m it'll be 20 years next year since he passed away If it's not in Gerry's book I doubt it happened, not sure where I picked that up... I suppose there's a lot of known players who might've been up for it , to a greater or lesser extent " Please welcome Mr Paul McCartney!!!"
