1. Was I at primary schoool with you - flashback!! Don't be sorry it's classic!! The other classic was my friend would shout " Donald?", I'd reply " What?" He'd go " Duck!" .. and throw something at me!!!
2. Thanks appreciated - actually sounds fairly straightforward - I'm pretty handless so wish me luck!!!
3. " I was the deps, dep , and forced to play for peanuts. Shocker!!!" Would be good if someone did it - and told us all about it, blow by blow! There was thread a while back about a short notice jazz gig in Glasgow - it was brilliant compulsive reading..
4.
falkirk
Correct!
Where abouts are you? Does Donny imply Doncaster?
Donny actually implies my Sunday name is Donald, Donnyboy is one of the names I'm affectionately known by!!!
5. Thanks it's ready and waiting!
6. Thanks for that - I had no idea what it was!! However i still had an email from when I bought it & it is described as a "electrosocket jack socket", if that any help?
7. The socket on mine is a bit wibbly! When I bought it off clarky he included a replacement that's got screwholes in - presumably to make it non- wibbly.... Any advise on best way to fit it - before I turn, what i'm sure should be a a simple task, into a disaster zone! I did a search but couldn't find anything. Thanks
8.
Anyone tried one of their Jazz bass kits? Right at the bottom of the page. http://www.diyguitar....co.uk/kits.htm £130 at the moment. Seems quite an inexpensive way to getting a starter pack for a DIY jazz! The body seems quite nice, and at that price you could keep the bits that are fine, then sell on the bits you dont want and recoup some of the cost. After going through darkheart's Jazz on a budget, this has really got me hankering for a wee project! I was thinking about just picking up a cheap jazz copy of gumtree... but at the end of the day, I'd just end up with a cheap bass with nice pups! haha I know there are DIY kits on thomann for a good bit less but they come with a basswood body... I quite like the grain on these beasties! Any thoughts? Worth a punt you reckon?
I was also inspired by Darkheart's Funder Jeff Bass project, but I've never done anything like that. OOh, this looks interesting AND actually £120 ( + £10 delivery), on offer! Need to reshape the old headstock though - unless you like it unshaped . Anyone any views/experience?
9. Price reduced to £80- any interest? Great value I'd say! Here's link to the specs etc - these cabs are discontinued. http://www.samsontech.com/hartke/products/cabinets/transporter-cabinets/410tp/
10. Amended for price drop to £130
11. Agreed I think the pickups sound just fine!
12. I'm thinking matte black is just fine , seems right.
13. This happens a lot with lotsabands playing for less than zero , just to play.I like to play gigs , but like to get enough so as not to be out of pocket! We had a very similar situation when we were looking to get a support slot. The promoter stated that tro get the support slot had to take /pay for something like 50 tickets - if you didn't sell them tough - you lost out. The name of the band, drumroll please ...... DODGY! Boomtish.
14. I like it, but the body shape/pickguard does remind me of something- my noname '70's special that kinda looked like an Aria of somekind!! Good though.
15.
It's a buyers market at the moment, so the seller needs to pull out all the stops. Half hearted sales usually end up being a waste of tim :-)
That is sosososo true!
16. Yeah, I do quite a bit of " me " time when I get in - just to chillax, like. Worst is when " I've invited the girls over", and when you get in they're all pissed and noisy!!!!
17. I find all this reassuring. I try not to get too uptight , because then you worry about being uptight etc. I can almost guarantee that , when we do play - which TBH isn't that often these days, that I'll get" Brain - Fog" at some point , and forget something that should be effortless - we don't even play complicated stuff!!! It does annoy me though. The mind wandering as said above somewhere, can be a problem " Oh look at them leaving/having a good time/starting a fight..." " I need a pee...." A few years ago after a lay-off of 10 years at our return first gig we did a cover of a Maria McKee song " I've Forgotten What is Was in You, That Put the Need in Me" Guess what , I'd completely forgotten.Don't think I played any of it right came in on a big sliding note - the wrong one, of course - think I turned down & pretended to play- still haunted by it and still get very nervous about playing it .
18. loads I suppose - most recently I remember being spoken to by a gobby, brash, middle-aged woman on a night out. GBMAW - " your in the band, ah seen yeh, so ah did!" Me - " Yes, you were dancing right in front of me, waving your knickers in the air" GBMAW - " Whit? You being cheeky?" Me - " Wee , bit!" GBMAW - " Well, you look like Fred Flinstone!!" Me " More like Barney Rubble, I'd say" GBMAW " You're at it - you actually look more like Danny De Vito!!!" Me - spits out pint - goes away in a huff. I Mean, Danny DeFeckin' Vito!!!! That's harsh. I am over five feet tall!
19.
Could we have a price, please?
Oops sorry, , what a fanny! ! Amended - thought £100 would be reasonable.
20.
I'll need to see the hat...
Ah, go on twist my arm!! The " Bass pLayers Hat", live, in action, at the event.
Photo's of "the lovely young lady" or it didn't happen
LYL just out of shot, drooling, obv .
21. Price drop from £100 to £80 Nice powerful , solid cab in good condition 300 W, 8ohms. Surplus to requirements at the moment and trying to clear some stuff for next bass purchase! Tried this against the more expensive and supposedly better XL version but actually preferred this - there you go! Any questions let me know - come & try it out if you wish. this would be a collection item! It's the cab on the top in the picture. Cheers Now sold - thanks Ian
22. Reviewed my pricing strategy and dropped price from £150 to £130- see if that'll do it - if not I'm keeping it! Only selling to try & help fund my next purchase ( also - " you better get rid of one if you want a new one!" Great looking and sounding bass , in my opinion! Made in 1999 in Korea ( Samsung plant) and much better quality than the more recent productions.I tried an EB0 was was to be frank rubbish! The bass is in very good condition for it's age ( slight cosmetic damage to one of the tuning heads) , has a lovely long slim neck with other of pearl block inlays , well fitted frets and a fabulous black grain running through the cherry red finish. Chicken head pickup selector is cool and the 2 pickups allow for some really good sounds - I like them both on full together! Good price for a quality instrument!! Would be looking for pick-up - try before you buy and all that! Any questions let me know
23. nice site - voted - a bit " jazz" for me though!!!
24.
Baby come home!
She's fine, and doesn't want to go back to Glasgowshire right now
25.
I'll need to see the hat...
I'll see what i can do - no pressure
