Got me a black one of these from Absolute music last week. gota say its a very nicely made bass, didnt have to tweak anything at all and i mean anything!! All screws done up tight (unlike my mustang which came with a buz n a lose neck) No buzzing from the frets or electrical hum. Paint work as good as gold and the finish on the neck is superbe. Only down side, its a bit heavy. Tone wise, I realy like it. The humbucker at the neck is fat and just a bit muddy in a nice way. the jaz at the bridge is bright, but the output is quite noticably les than the neck pickup. together the sound is very nice. Im thinking im guna have to get the single pickup version in blond too. Still got the roundwounds on her at the mo but im thinking tape wounds might be the way to go PS Dose Iron man very well on the mudbucker
I'm seriously choking on one of these - first I thought/ black/white then the white/black special version and now I'm thinking the single pick-up- God I annoy myself!! Good to hear about it - what about the scale - does it feel small?

yeah, I really am a bit of a fanboy for Kev - doesn't surprise me that as well as being multi-talented he's also a genuinely nice bloke.( and he's got that nice bass too- no idea what it is but itlooks quality, of course)

I know there's many who would like to see the subject of LYL's affections - I would also point out I was wearing my really cool " Bass Players Hat" What's not to like?

Nothing particulary whacky or unusual but here's my very nice Jazz - in black!

.... and no doubt he knocked it together with some wood that was lying about & made the glue & strings using some long forgotten eco-friendly methods
I think I've seen McCloud playing drums somewhere too, speaking Italian and French fluently and doing some quite good paintings on his Grand Tour series. Also didn't he set fastest time on Top Gear's Star in a Reasonably Priced Car despite never having been on a race track before? He seems to be one of those irritating people who is good at everything he tries!
I've gone off him ever so slighty now!!!

I saw this but didn't watch him plonking away , he is a total dude though! Not surprised he's a bass man .
So a bird chats you up after a gig, lays it on a plate and you don't spot it!
I think she was being nice to an old man! Must've loved the bass though!
Don't think its very nice bringing relatives into this topic So it was a red bass then - Mmmm interesting Cheers Dave
I think the sheep thing is more for my Northern cousins, we're refined here in Fawkirk . Nice cattle though! And, yes RED!!!

Just wondering whether any of the advice was of use, or not.

La Cabronita 'Porazzo' Custom Precision Build
Donnyboy replied to Billy Apple's topic in Build Diaries
Great read looking forward to further instalments. Did you finally settle on black? -
Which just goes to prove that no one but other bass players gies a toss who makes the bass and where abouts in the world it is manufactured. Donny you realise that you have just buggered up umpteen threads? Do you feel guilty? BTW is that red bass no pink?
Fiesta Red, not Pink.. and Iwasnt going to rise to it. Doh!! Not guilty!
completely rubbish responses to her questions...i'd have been in her knickers within 10 minutes............honest....
What can I say, I'm sorry excuse of a man and an embarassment to all proper bassmen , and of course we all believe you..... honest........ She was also younger than my daughters......
did she boogie around and shake her thang to your groovy tones?
I would like to imagine so , me with my lovely red bass 'n'all!!!!

God I feel old sometimes! We were playing at a charity event in Edinburgh last night - which was great. After our short set I was approached by a lovely young lady, a volunteer I think ... LYL - " Oh hi, you're the guy that was playing the red bass" Me ( Rather chuffed) - " Yes , that's right" LYL - " Oh, I thought it looked, it looked really nice , like a Fender" Me - " Well , it's a Precision..." LYL - " Yeah , but what make is it, is it new?" Me " Well, no I got it in 1985" LYL " That's like 100 years ago, your older than my Dad! What make is it" Me " Well, it's a Squier by Fender " LYL - " So it's like a Fender ?" Me - " Exactly !" LYL - " So Fender make basses then ?" Me - " Yes , that's right" LYL - " Since when?" Me - " Well since the '50's" ( Yeah I know your great grandad was probably born then) LYL - " Oh my God, I thought they just made proper guitars!! Bye!!!" Me ( By now slighty bemused & slighty less chuffed) - " Bye, then."

Yip - just checked it out again - like the pickguard choice & the logo is total class!! The bridge looks like a serious bit of gear too. Now I've got a Jazz but i would think about floggiing it to get funds to buy stuff to build my own masterpiece , or the " Homer Simpson Spicerack" version!! Well done inspirational indeed.

Way Down ... disappointment of the year
Donnyboy replied to Happy Jack's topic in General Discussion
Enjoyed the review, suspect it's much more entertaining than the book. A little more Denver info would be good though! -
I think the EB3 is a cracking bass and very good value for money, excellent rock bass, and you can get good sounds with the different pickup settings. Nice long slim neck is very playable. I also think it looks good. The Thunderbird Pro would also be worth considering and the above would also apply. Both I think would be within your budget especially 2nd hand, but make sure you get a good one. I've got a EB3 that's top notch , but have a friend with a EB0 that is poorly finished and almost unplayable! Anyway good luck. Btw if your anywhere near Falirk Central Scotland you're welcome to come and try the EB3.

To me it oozes classy coolness !

What makes a bass look really cool or really ugly ? Any candidates ?

"The musician hanging it around their neck ?" ....and a bit of shape/colour & also the height it's hanging at! -
the mrs has changed my mind about the gold hardware so ill just have to get myself a decent chrome bridge and ive just contacted someone on ebay about a `Funder Jeff Bass` decal or two.
`Funder Jeff Bass` perfect . Agree with your Mrs about the gold hardware, ( they are always right , I'm always being told).I think a pickguard would be pretty good - but what one ?

51 Precision Reissue - bought from Clarky couple of years ago and i believe one of the last ones available in this country. took the pickup cover off as i found it restricting but like the bridge one. It's got a lollar pickup in it. I might be wrong but I wouldn't have thought that Waricks were the kind of bass that'd normally get distressed?
What does IDST mean? I've got a Squier Classic Vibe '50's Precision and it's a really nice bass.I've gigged it a few times.(I've also got an '83 Japanese Squier P-bass,but they are a bit different)
I've also got an '83 JV Squier P- had it since new - reading this thread an others about the newer Squiers I think a purchase of the new Squier Telecaster Bass is inevitable. I'm sure The Boss doesn't really mean it when she says " You said the last one was the last one - you'll just need to sell one before you get another"
