1. 2008 MIM , great loooking, playing & sounding Jazz. I bought it late last year from a chap near Glasgow and it the bass in this previous thread http://basschat.co.u...__1#entry878426 Since I've had it I've addded vintage style elephant ear tuners & had it professionally set up to my liking . The guitar doc I used put me off doing " unnecessary" upgrades as he said it wouldn't really add anything - he particulary liked the pick-ups and neck. I'd say it's in good condition and to be honest i haven't really used it very much - it is a very good looking bass though!! Here's some recent pics I'd prefer collection if possible & am more than happy for anyone interested to come see/play. My cunning plan is to try and get a semi acoustic and some kind of cheaper Jazz & maybe do a bitsa , but we'll see what happens Any questions give me a shout Edit - I've had a "I'm going to regret this " feeling on this ( see Merello's post below )Apologies to anyone interested. Played in last night and loved it - looks good too!
2. As above, it's been like watching a live news event .
3. Yeah, sensible. I didnt use a stand for many years - lean against amp/wall - with all that comes with it - no major problems - apart from falling over 'n' stuff . I now have stands and often forget /choose not to use them.
4. Wilkinsons are very good & great value - although the stock ones on recent MIM's are really good. I was advised by a guitar doc that although he'd gladly do it & set everything up( & make some money) - it probably wouldn't make much difference. BTW - the guitarist & drummer in my band think the MIM jazz is the best sounding bass they've heard!!!
5. ... but what is art....... in the intent of the artist or the reaction of the viewer. Either way it's bonkers-
6. Does it sound like a jazz? what sun-screen factor does it use?
7. ... and it' a " proper" one!! I can see T's , posters, duvet covers, vest and pants sets. Phone The Dragons, quick!
8. Read this with nervous anticipation ... If it doesn't go well you good " faint" in a dramatic fashion mid song and get carted off stage. Just a suggestion.
9. Tasty
10. I've recently put some pics of bolt on SB 600 in gear porn, bump this and the SB 700 are incredible value
11. I'm hearing voices again....
12.
Have a 'these are really good basses for the money' type bump. I had one for a while and enjoyed playing it on my own away from the mirror. great active tones, skinny neck, real pose value. But I am too old and too fat and just looked (or at least felt) plain silly wearing it.
Not just me then ? Makes me feel a better , but reAlly good basses
13.
Buy this bass and you can look at least this cool
Nice hat , bump.
14.
The fans in my PC whirring
Me too. It's loud!
15. Mr Rory Gallagher !!! http://youtu.be/H3S4XckG5LQ
16. I only tried flats once - didn't really like them - felt funny and tense.... maybe I should give them another go. I was advised by an expert that an alternative would be to roll back on the tone control
17. no , not always, i like it when i play straight and he does some off-beat stuff , hits cymbles (?), double-times the bass drum ..... but then that's usually when he's getting cramp & needs some salted crisps
18.
When we first played a big Irish bar here in Edinburgh we didn't have any traditional irish songs in the set list (we were more a rock/punk type of group at the time). We gathered requests from the inebriated irishmen and women, and played those song next gig. We had to play Galway Girl 3 times in one night...

I play a few Irish places in Liverpool and Manchester. It's quite fun to see how long it is before Galway Girl gets requested, and then keep a tally during the night of how many times it's asked for. Occasionally we get asked to do some really obscure Irish folk tune that only the requester seems to know of, our usual response to that is to play something like Dakota, which tends to go down considerably better. Another little dislike of mine is when you're onstage trying to remember when a song changes to that awkward bridge-y bit and someone in the crowd comes up and just starts chatting away as if you're both just standing at the bar...
Excuse my ignorance but is Galway Girl the Steve Earle song? I get the " lets have a blether" routine too - i think I'm getting better at ingnoring it though - more difficult if your pretty much standing in amongst the audience.. we played recently at a pub that had a pretty much none- existant stage - bawheid here was strategically placed outside the gents " S'cuse me pal I'm bursting on a piss " , and i tell you it smelt like someone had died in there every time the door was opened!
19.
Only if it is you that I hear with the crap playing, not me. Love that emoticon btw, never looked at the expanded list before!
Definitely me!! You know the one who always forgets what song he's playing , repeatedly makes the same mistakes, but sometimes get bits right. I like the thingy too - I just randomly pick them without really knowing what they mean
20.
Our singer usually says at some point during the gig 'if you have any requests let us know. If it is on our list, we'll play it' which usually gets a titter and the message across. I don't get the whole 'the crowd are paying so you should play what they ask' thing. You've only got to read the threads on here to see how diverse music is and it is totally unrealistic imo to expect a band to be able to play *anything*. We play what we play, based on what we are capable of playing to a decent enough standard. We aren't professional musos, just a bunch of middle aged guys having a laugh who just happen to make a lot of people happy when they come to see us. As far as I can see the whole pub band thing is pretty Darwinian and if people didn't like what we do we wouldn't get booked again.
Are we in the same band, and not realised it,by any chance??
21. I remember a interview with the late Rory Gallagher , who said that he just couldn't go on stage an act " dopey" or stare at his shoes- a great performer and player - and genuinely got-off on the music - check some of his performances on youtube - class. Duck-walks a speciality.. I don't think he thought once about looking cool - just went for it.
22. Been there done it etc. because our band have been together , on and off , for a long time, we kinda know stuff- sometimes individually more than together, and playing rough and ready pub gigs can be fun/challenging . We do sometims scramble something together on the spot , but as the singer says " we're not a f'in jukebox". We have given in and tried " Sex on Fire" , so that we can slip it in if needed.
23. Have a" I'm selling similar( maple neck)" bump. Maybe not as satisfying as self-bumping though!
24. I do believe I have one of the last available ( when new). There's just something " right" about them, bump.
25. Have a " this is a great bass" & great value for money bump - especially with the case 'n'at. Had one but not for me, not sure why , it was quality.
