1. Shoud've said I'm in Falkirk, central Scotland
2. " You better not be on that Basschat site again!!!" " Nah, just regular porno stuff" "ok"
3. Not a great pic , but it does the job ..
4. look like this.... HK395 model-obviously ...!!
5. Really enjoyed reading this, great story. Did you find out why the remodelling was carried out? Look forward to next installments.
6. If you've played guitar - just have a bit of a plonk about to get the feel of it - most guitarists I know who try a bass , squicker(?) about too much - just try to get your groove, thang .
7. Harman/Kardon ( Samsung) 3 piece system with subwoofer & satellite 4 ohm/ 30 watt on/off switch tempremental but probably easily fixed if got know-how. Nice & loud & good bass response. Collection only - not worth sending Let me know if interested D
8. Monday evening bump- good luck with the new(?) band. Sparkly red is not mean & cool?? Saw a good looking Black/Maple P on Glasgow Gumtree - it's disappeared now - but would've looked the part. Mind you i couldn't tell you what an AC/DC bassman uses, but a Pbass must be in there!! BTW forgot to add that I'd say your price is keen & I'd agree with this 100% - "Buy with confidence from Jez, one of the good yins."
9.
Good Tele thread! Noddy Holder c.1972, black tele, maple neck, with John Birch Superflux pickup at the neck & custom control plate by John Birch to enable a Gibson style switch for a lot more chrome for the glam image. Six saddle ashtray bridge. I've also got an SG Junior with John Birch bridge and Magnum pickup (c. Noddy Holder c1978-83) but why spoil a good Tele thread?
Not sure it was meant to be a Tele thread - show 'em all off. I love a Tele though . i'm amazed at how much effort goes into getting all the detailing accurate. I like the John Deacon P bass. I remember seeing a Andy Summers Tele( custom shop?) in a shop in Glasgow " reduced" to something like £8000- Bargain!!?- But it was all beat up and everything
10.
Wow, this takes me back. These things are bomb proof! They're a little bit 'middy' (unless you push the 'derek' button but they've got loads of volume on tap and are a great little combo. "fond memories of these amps" style bump.
Bingo - I also still have one ( with a bomb-proof replacement McKenzie speaker)- been through the wars for sure - Don't think I ever changed the settings , but it's a loud combo for sure . I got mine serviced recently & the guy ( who's really a dyed in the wool valve man, raved about it!!) It's a bargain bump!
11. "The neck's on these basses are top notch, the feel of wood on skin is a delight and the range of tones from the active eq is pretty sweet. If you can't decide to get this bass because you think a bass that looks this cool can't sound great your a fool, a damn fool!" Agreed, these are great basses , great value for money , and undervalued I 'd say. Also they are pretty lightweigt & very playable. And, very cool.
12. How's about that then - just like the '70's!!
13. Agree with a lot of the above. I thought Lancaster /Coghlan were great & loved Alan L's thumping, no nonsense, often agressive playing. The sound of the bass on the On the Level album is great. His tone changed for the worse when he stopped using his Fender Mustang in my view. Saw them in the late 70's/early 80's a few time & much preferred the original line-up. The glory days were probably over when JC left , but his going put a tin lid on it for me. Kinda curious about the latest developments.
14. The purple triangle Dunlop tortex 1.14(?) is my fav just now. I think someone mentioned it earlier, but I don't find using a pick on a Jazz very satisfying for some reason ?
15.
No its not
Yeah ,on reflection, you're right...
16. Definitely not expert, but what I've learned is that it's harder and more satisfying to play a one note groove locking in with the drummer , than a whole lot of fancy pies. Thers's no room to hide
17.
We usually start with something like "Long Train Running" - immediately recognisable and gets people feet tapping straight away. We do 3 or 4 songs one straight after the other, minimal gap, just to get the momentum going.
Varies, but we now kind ease into it for pub gigs , and agree with the 3/4 songs to get into it & gauge the situation.
18. Thanks I'll check out the tips. Manflu it's the worst , thanks for GWS. Love your Let the Bass Serve the Song tag- always true, I'd say.
19. Ah well I thought you might be interested, butI take your point! Maybe a deal with the SR?
20. Might be worth checking this out - Stockbridge - no idea why this is underlined!! http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/squire-fretless-jazz-bass/102635866
21. ....obviously to good to be true- robbers!!! Hope it's all sorted out.
22. I've got one that I've messed about with but to be honest I 've probably not used much of it's potential as it seems quite complicated to me - I'm rubbish at stuff like this - settings, patches, banks, patterns- doh! I've been signed off work with manflu - so messing about with it might help my recuperation!!
