1. From a faraway land called the '80's - Aria SB600 with someone I barely recognise as myself!!
2. Anyone know why/when the Gibson logo disappeared from the headstock on Epiphones?
3.
Post recipts back, few stickers on the case to make it look used, jobs a carrot..... ...at least that's what someone with less scrouples than me would do
I've a friend whose got relatives there - planned to get a nice guitar ( not bass). If the value is less than about £500 ,I think , no need for VAT /customs. I'm sure stickers would seriously devalue an otherwise perfect instrument. However he went to one shop (emporium?) too expensive , then trecked across town with a hangover to another ( can't remember name) to find it boarded up. He then went in a huff and gave up!
4. Maybe not so close to Aberdeen but saw this on Gumtree (Edinburgh) - seller seems keen as it's been advertised regularly & been reduced from £350 http://www.gumtree.co.uk/p/for-sale/schecter-bass-guitar-natural-finish/97481737
5. I also remember Arias being used and P later, worn high, to allow T ( described in a review as" beefy black bassman")to dance about more! I'm not fan of sig models , but I am a sucker for the black / maple combo , and I do like T( my wife likes gin, though).
6.
Why is it that uncles never sell their own basses by themselves?
I spoke to Uncle Gary - he's seems more than able to speak for himself!! He also seems to be a very straight up bloke - for a guitarist
Sorry I (wrongly) assumed that we were talking of a 'Fender' bass, whereas this doesn't profess to be a Fender (though the Gumtree ad does clearly state Fender) and is in fact just a cheap P bass copy. The ZZ Top reference is spurious at best!
I thought it would look a bit more ZZ Top-like ie - bonkers! It does look like a pretty decent copy though.
7. Here it is - on Glasgow gumtree - bargain!! - & I'm not related to seller - pics just posted here's link http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/fender-precision-bass-mid-1980s-copy/96544916
8.
Yep I'm not gonna miss this. I'm a huge fan of Mr Bruce. Saw him play at my local in 80's. Absolutely huge sound enough so that for the first time the police dropped in to tell him to restrict the volume. It could be heard 0.5mile away at the police station apparently. Of course it was a very sunny hot night and all the venue windows were wide open. Yes we do get the occasional hot day up here in sunny scotland. From memory i think Clem Clempson on guitar and Simon Kirke i think on drums circa 82'. Probably one of the reasons i bought my Thumb NT in 89' when Jack was endorsing them. Still couldn't play like him and he sings too. Aaah the good old days. Dave
Going to watch it tonight or tomorrow - I also saw him at a local venue( Chequers Niteclub) my memory was that it was the drummer from Blondie who played with him then - I reckon it was the early '80's too. he was making jokes about California - The Sunshine Village -an ex mining village closeby!!
9. Thanks chaps - it's a bit of a mystery for sure!!
10. Anyone heard of such a thing - I've googled without any success. This is as much info as I have - maybe it spins easily? Any info gratefully received Cheers.
11.
Think it could be one of these (just picked one up on e-bay) although pickup config is different pickguard is very similar and headstock. It's a 'Woolworths' bass apparently, early 70's Andy
Looks very like what I had back in the day - getting all nostalgic now!!
12.
OK. The original owner was a friend of my father who purchased the bass back in '63. Apparently, there was a craze in the sixties of spinning guitar straps. The strap my father's friend bought fixed to the guitar/bass onto a harness that was attached using the strap buttons and two other fixing points that screwed into the body of the instrument, you will see the other mounting point close to the bottom horn. Not only did this require screwing directly into the wood but the other side effect was damage done to the instrument as it looped around and typically hit things as rotation was unpredictable due to the fact there was a lead plugged into it!!! My bass fared OK with just a slightly bent tuner making it very stiff to tune, which was replaced with a tuner from a 1960 P Bass (D string tuner), er - because the owner of the 1960 P Bass fitted new ones back in the early 70's...... - I still have the bent tuner and did have the harness although where it is now I have no idea after numerous house moves since acquiring the bass.
great - love a bit of history!!
13. Some good points here about old/wellused basses not actually being completly knackered . I suppose you need to try really hard / be really careless /not give a sh*t to get a real beater!
14. I've recently had Wilkinsons put on a Mex Jazz ( along with bridge & tuners)& they sound the bizz to me - i think there's 2 different types - cheaper & not so cheap- mine's are the not so cheap & the guitar doc thought they were better than the stock ones especially the bridge pickup. They seem very powerful to me .
15. What a slapper!! Couldn't resist.
16. Might be interested in the big ears!! Pm 'd
17. It's very damp just along the road in Falkirk. Enjoy!
18. Just received Jazz pickups - no problems whatsoever - painless!!
19. I'm a maple neck kinda guy , but I'm liking the rosewood/white - nice contrast.
