1.
There was a guy on Gumtree up here selling a "vintage" Tanglewood P bass copy from 1983 for 150 pounds. So 1983 is now vintage?? Jez
If The early Squiers were" Japanese Vintage" versions of 1950's & 60's Fenders & started in 1982(?) does that make them Double Vintage?
2.
Did a google search for Paisley shipping and there's no such company. Did you mean "Paisley Freight"?
If it's based in Paisley, don't ask too many questions!
3.
As per my PM - see pic
Pm sent
4. Fiesta Red/ maple neck( all time classic look) & all the added goodness make this very attractive- sadly not for me . Bump!
5.
Sure is, but decided against it now any way and made another purchase.
I saw it and thought it looked interesting - nice sunburst not seen one like that.
6.
Hi all, 1980's Japan manufactured fender jazz bass, dark sunburst / rosewood fretboard all original parts in good condition. I don't have any more information at this stage. Does anyone know the approximate value of a bass like this. Thanks Mark
Is this the one advertised on Glagow Gumtree - sounds the same as advertised
7. Great post - thanks - I saw JB in in venue near California ( just outside Falkirk), what seems like 100 years ago & he had the drummer from Blondie playing with him. Also at a gig in Edinburgh in 1985 ( I think) when it was an all star kinda deal. Rory Gallagher , John Martin ( pissed & beat-up), Ian Stewart from the Stones & Simon Kirk(Free/ Bad Co) on drums & various others. What I think is good is that you don't need to be a muso/bassman to enjoy the songs/gigs - if you are then even better!
8.
Hi Donny, Fiesta Red was always the official Fender name for this colour. Salmon Pink was other peoples' description of this famous colour when they were not familiar with the actual Fender name. Even Hank Marvin described his first Fender Strat as being 'Flamingo Pink' at the time he first acquired it, but he wouldn't have known the correct Fender term. I guess it is possible for certain paint colours to fade when exposed to the air & bright sunlight over many years, & probably with the Nitro-celulose lacquer they used in the fifties/sixties, which thins & wears away easier than the Polyurethane varnishes they use these days. But who keeps their guitar/Bass out in the open air & bright sunlight. They are normally kept protected in a hardcase or gig-bag, & certainly indoors. The old style lacquers on the Maple necks have certainly faded to a honey colour over the years, & modern 'Vintage-style' instruments are deliberately varnished with tinted varnish to emulate that aged look. Tony.
Thanks Tony -very much appreciated- mine's hasn't been kept outdoors! But I can understand the Salmon Pink description, without some research how would you find out? Cheers

10.
I've had a few stickers on my jazz, but I think this one will stay
Now that's the kind of cosmetic mod that I like - an elegant lady reclining tastefully - where do you get them - stickers that is!!
11.
Resprayed sunburst makes sense.Have you taken the scratchplate off? Look deep inside the pickup and control cavities.
Thanks for the tip - which I duly followed by wheeching off the sctratchplate . What I found was evidence of bare wood and red paint & nothing else.
12. Interesting stuff- to me anyway! Someone once told me that Fiesta Red was actually Salmon Pink( I think Fiesta Red sounds sexier ). I've still got the original green cardboard box for mine & it's got Fiesta Red written on it . I've heard that with age the Red can turn a bit Pinky , but I haven't noticed with mine - it's still vibrant - although the neck has mellowed into a lovely honey'd colour - from memory( not reliable) it was almost white new
13. Nice ones - bump.
14. I've got a '79 SB 600 bolt on - but having bother posting pics!!! I'll try again It's big & brown
15. What a bargain - pity I'm far away!
16. Not sure what you'd call it to be honest - it certainly sounds interesting & has got some history. Some pics of before & after would be good
17. Great bass & great price - Seafoam Green mmmh? bonkers but just might work. Sonic Blue with cream guard would be cool
18. I'd go for lowish - arms length, & if you need to reach a fancy note a bit of contortion I'm sure is ok Too low or high I think you can look like a bit of a knob - it might be a confidence thing though .
19. Curse my Scottish location - I'd grab it off you at that price!!
20.
All the very best with the swap mate. Gerry is a top bloke folks so deal in total confidence Agreed!
21. I'm curious now! The one I had an E & 6 digits serial number (E963292) which according to the chart in my copy of The Bass Book( I know it's not the Bible!) and also the Fender site would make it Japanese and "circa" 1984 - 87 - which would seem to be too early. I've scribbled a note that there was a stamp on the end of the neck stating: PJR-65(x) G PAN. But this means nothing too me. I don't suppose this helps clarify anything!
22. A very handsome couple - congratulations!! Quirky but yet strangely attractive. I love these stories about something being kept under a bed/in a cupboard - I always think/hope I might benefit from something like that - at a good price though! Great post.
23. I also had one - great bass and excellent value for money - trans black was the colour - very cool. Only reason I sold was that I didn't use it much , and decided that I didn't "need" so many basses . It did look vey good on a stand . One of the very few basses I got a compliment on( from an not unattractive young lady) at a gig!! Maybe it looks rerally good on a short , ahem stocky, middle-aged man! I didn't find any dive problems, controls giave a good range of sounds - I liked the growly one , easy neck to play & it could take a right good thumping . I've got wee arms but could reach the first fret, I would say it's a bass that should be low-slung.
24. Just watched this on 4OD - great stuff - true that the dealers came across as a bunch of robbers! Too me it's been the most atractive thing on the programme - but then I'm not really a fan of pretentious art Yer man came across as real nice bloke and not a greedy swine as suggested!!!
25. Yes I'm sure thet were MIJ. I bought one ( probably paid a bit too much ) It was dated I think about 83/84 & had a few dings however played very well & had a good range of sounds & was easy on the back /shoulder - all original parts.I think £300-350 for that Vintage with original parts & nicely faded gold hardware would be realistic - more would be a bonus!
