Back in the day we used to rampage about in vans & the singer - who's a lightweight drinker & not bothered - would drive . I loved that boys in the band having a drink , rocking & generally having a blast. Now - many years later ( including a 10 year break) it's pretty much different - the band stay miles apart & so we are mostly driving - soda water & lime/water all round!! If I'm honest i miss having a drink - it adds to the boys night out feel but does mean that I fall over less. A couple of times we've had a few drinks - don't think it added much to the performance but it made the drummer a bit looser & prone to improvisation Also it became a bit of a tradition for me & the drummer to have to have a break for a pee & another pint & listen to the singer do an impromptu(?) solo number. As an aside, the drummer used to select someone in the audience - hand them some cash & signal them when more drinks were required - only for him though! Bastard!!

...it doesn't have a skunk stripe..... I do ike a nice skunk stripe.

It's either one of a kind or neither one thing or another . For some reason I'd like it more if it wasn't the "60th" model , but a Retro-Vibe '50's Vintage Modified Delux Ltd Edition , for example.

Sounds like a proper bass " is , for what it's worth , the opinion of my drumming companion.

I had one & in my humble opinion the stock ones were very good & by buggering about with the controls ( 4's a bit much for me though!)you could get a right good range of sounds & cut through other band members making a din
But isn't there a contradiction in saying that some members are bumping their prices up while meanwhile one is complaining that nothing sells around here ?
Maybe so - but I'm sure it's also the case that an item will be advertised/sold on BC at a lower price than elsewhere. I've done it myself - maybe not made a penny ( quite the opposite!)- but I'd rather not make a penny with someone on BC! I've always enjoyed the experience and the sharing of information. As an aside I've bought & sold stuff on Gumtree, and on quite a few occassions discovered that I've been dealing with BC'ers.Again enjoyable.

I do believe it will be fashion related. Was most of her attire black by any chance?
And pretty pointless in pubs where 'leaving the stage' means moving 18" off to the left and standing around like a prize turnip. Worse still, I've actually witnessed a couple of pub bands play 'wild cheering' sound effects through their PA and come bounding back on, waving like idiots to the proverbial 2 men and a dog. It fairly makes your starfish pucker.
Classic - toe curling but I kind of admire band's that carry on regardless- even if the dog's not interested. We're a bit random , sometimes an old rocker ( rarely rehearsed), sometme's a gentle accoustic number to act as a lullaby, sometime's something we didn't play earlier - " Nut, I'm no playin' that - it's too fast/slow/poncy/I've got cramp/I need a pee" Harder to deal with - the drunk/aggressive/very vocal punter - pander to them ? Here's a wee something maybe familiar? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24_tiGZgPP4

Having just dealt with Dennis - I wouldn't hesitate in recommending him. a pleasure meeting him & chatting.

Maple may well make a difference, but importantly, for me anyway, is that they look the bizz especialy when they've got that lovely golden honey hue. mmm. Apologies for the shallow reply.
Hope he showed you his back-stage pass collection in his workshop?
I noticed them - he didn't show them off as such being a gent 'n'all. Nice collection of giutars . He did however show me his early JV Squier P Bass that he got for less than a £1 from a junk shop in Stirling. Now that the kind of find I'd like!
Is he not full of the Flu ATM?? D.
Didn't put him off seeing me late this afternoon if he did - what a true gent. sorted my BW speaker that I'd been told to put in the bin & raved about my Hiwatt PA amp- probably a 1970 original & , whisper it , worth a fortune . Feel a bit guilty for leaving lying at the back of the garage for more than 15 years!!Ah, well.
Dennis does all our repairs for the shop and what he doesn't know about amps you could write on an atom. Quick turnaround as well. Oh, and he's one of the nicest, most helpful people you'll ever meet! Mention Deek from HSK recommended him to you.... D.
Just spoken to him - you are 100% correct. Thanks, much appreciated. Can't wait to go see him. He reckon's it's a mid 70's original & should be the bizz for bass - yahoo!!
Yes, Dennis Marshall in Newmills, just north of Dunfermline. We had a similar conversation on here not so long ago. Lives & breathes Sound City, & therefore Hiwatts too. He's a list as long as his arm of names he's worked for, not least The Eagles & George Michaels Band in recent years. His details are in the Trusted Amp techs in the Repairs section.
Thanks for that - I'll check him out - is he a Fifer?
Great song though
Yip, but as has been said before - better get it good & tight - don't mock the one note basslines - play it like you mean it. Dung-a-dung-a dung. Dung-a-dung-a-dung. I remember playing this in the '80's? " ... 20 foot long like a steel driving hammer... " or something - sing along now!!

Wakey, wakey on this thread i've just posted something referring to my old Hiwatt valve PA head - which I had serviced locally by Mr Neito - he loves old valve amps!! I was a bit concerned about his dreamy expression when I showed him it . However a friend recommended Flynn amps as being a bit more pro - what with them servicing Bryan Adams amps n all. I phoned them - very nice - yes we'll look at, it sounds like a good one, aye just pop in & leave it & we'll check it out. Speak to my pal again & say that I'm thinking of taking it into the big city. Then he tell's me that he had to wait ages on his Bassman being repaired , oh, & by the way after chasing them they discovered that they had to order something , oh & by the way it was really expensive & he didn't notice any difference. Perhaps you do need to be Billy Big Baws to get good service - but what about us wee ones? Think I'll reconsider & if needed I know where Mr Neito's workshop is - although he did service my friends amp that failed the first time he used it again . can you trust anyone?

This is kinda related I've got an old Hiwatt 100w PA valve head which i've used for bass & it sounds good . The amp man who fixed it advised that it'd be good for bass or guitar. Once i've got speaker & cab reconnected I'll be able to give it a right good blast!!

Thanks chaps - appreciate the speedy informative and hilarious replies - blue to bits !! Classic Cheers, D

For my next trick - I thought this should be straightforward - ah well... I'm wanting to stick an old McKenzie speaker into an old Peavey Black Widow cab. The speaker has a black & a red connecting thingy , but the cab ( which says it was made in the USA) has a blue and a yellow wire. Which wire should go in which connector? I've done a search but couldn't find anything. Any help would be gratefully received. Thanks D

Was my Fiesta Red JV Squier P Bass Originally Black?
Donnyboy replied to Donnyboy's topic in Bass Guitars
I should have clarified that this isn't exactly a new kid on the block , it's an '83 '57 reissue & I'm the one & only owner. So in my defence it's not too bashed for it's age - honest Under the red paint on the back it's blond wood & the black is on the side bit's - maybe the sunburst theory works. Thanks chaps -
Excuse my ignorance but as the bashes show ,under the red there's black - would this be some kind of undercoat (it's shiny though) or possibly intended as the original colour? On the back though the natural wood can be seen where it's dinged. Any clues detectives?
