1. I'll have it, then, if you're still looking for a recipient.
2. Anyone know where this book is now, please? Hopefully we can get it circulating again.
3. New Year bump - who has this now, please?
4. Is this still for sale?
5. Andy, have you got a nice Precision in that collection of soon-to-be-up-for-sale basses?
6. Ditto! I played it and was trying to find the funds. Would've looked nice next to my Jazz. Enjoy it!
7.
Somehow i have missed this thread and would want to be there as im local, can someone sum it up so far in a sentence?
Lots of bass players turn up with a variety of instruments and amps, which we take turns in trying out when not eating biscuits and drinking tea.
8. If the hall we used last time isn't playing ball, why not move to somewhere else? There must be hundreds of similar venues in the region. Perhaps someone has some good contacts we can take advantage of? My band sometimes practices in a pretty big village hall (only a few years old, so it has a kitchen we could use too). It's between Norwich and Fakenham, so not very handy for some people, but I can ask if you like. Let me know.
9. Any movement on this, please? I'd like to block the date out in my diary to make sure I can come along. Thanks.
10. In common with plenty of others, I find the Jazz neck easier to get on with than a meaty P-bass neck. Would this fit my Mike Dirnt sig Precision and, if so, would you consider a straight sale? Thanks.
11. Colchester was half-empty. A real shame for probably the best band in their genre in the UK. Anyhow, back to the topic in question...!
12.
Indeed they did varnish. And spellcheck is your fiend, BTW
Although, ironically, your post goes some way to disproving it! Spellcheck can be a false friend at times.
13.
Did you talk to him? At the islington gig I went to get a picture of his board and he talked to me about it for 5 solid minutes, unfortunately i then forgot to take a picture of it. Nice fella, and they did a brilliant show.
Yes I did. Lovely friendly chap. After the gig the whole band came out and sat on stage taking questions. My drummer was there too and she took quite a few pics. When I get copies I'll post one of his board.
14. I've read both the Keith Richards and Ozzy Osborne autobiographies and both were much more insightful and entertaining than I expected.
15. I saw Amplifier last night at Colchester Arts Centre. Brilliant gig and a very friendly, approachable band. When they were setting up, it two two people to carry each of the three pedalboards on stage! I counted 22 pedals on Neil Mahony's (bass player) board, and one of those was a multi-effects pedal.
16. There must be a simpler way of just splicing imported MP3s into smaller parts. I used to have Goldwave on my PC. It was free and basic and I could highlight sections and save them straight into the folder in a few seconds. So far, Garage Band is taking about fifteen minutes per track and the raw track now has hours of silence where I've deleted sections. Is there a simpler way to use it for really basic functions? None of the terms I've typed into "help" have come up with anything remotely relevant.
17. Thanks for that I'll try it out. The key you've described is the "backspace" key which deletes the text to the left of the cursor. I was looking for one that deletes to the right (e.g. from the cursor to the end of the sentence. At the moment I have to move the cursor to the end and then gobble up the unwonted copy).
18. My question is not related to any of this, but I thought it would make sense to continue instead of starting a completely fresh thread. Anyway, I've just invested in a MacBook and it's come with Garage Band loaded. I recorded rehearsal on my Tascam as usual and have managed to import the three-hour recording into Garage Band. Now, how on earth do I split each individual song so I can email them to the others? (Come to that, where's the "delete" key on the laptop keyboard?!)
19. I bought the issue too and enjoyed it more than some of the previous ones. Using American spellings instead of English ones always annoys me, though. What's wrong with "modelled"?
20. I played this earlier in the week. If I could afford it, I'd have it in a shot, it was gorgeous and very easy to play if you prefer thinner necks. Anyone want my Aerodyne Jazz?
21. We all posses "race memory", even if it's just when we hear a dog growl, so why not more useful things, like an ability to pick up languages, or get to grips with an instrument easier than others? We call it having a "flair" or "gift" for it, or similar. That's not to say it's all that matters, of course. I remember my bass teacher telling me that one famous musician responded to the comment "I wish I had your talent" with something along the lines of: "go away for fifteen years, practice for seven hours every day, go on the road with different bands and then come back and talk to me about talent".
22. With tongue in cheek, I like the caption under the ad for the fretless!
23. I've found it also depends on how you learn. In one band I tried to learn from TAB. The songs took ages to go in, and some still fall out again. In the other band I've made up my own lines from chord charts and they've been quicker to learn and seem to stay in my memory better. Although the older I get, the longer everything takes...
24.
Also, do you have any plans to improve the quality of proofing the mag. I used to subscribe but the colossal amount of errors in the type and photos, even the music notation just put me right off.
Same for me. That and the lack of material for players like me who don't play jazz or hanker after an exotic boutique instrument. We're often told that the bass should serve the song and I don't have a lot of interest in bass players who ARE the song. Anyhow, good luck and I'll have a look at the latest issue. Mind you, I bought the Chickenfoot CD and it arrived with a whole mag devoted to it, including several articles featuring Michael Anthony, so I think I've read enough about him already!
