At my last gig I realised I was singing my basslines. By the next one I hope to learn the proper words. I'm not mic'ed up (the only time I hit the right note is when I'm passing it), but it probably looks a bit less silly if I'm at least singing the words to the song.

Post your pictures, Lets see what you all look like.

At a gig last month. Apparently I looked "smug". I was just trying not to look at my fingers! -

And his "buy it now" price is almost double what they go for on here (not that they come up very often - I gave up and bought a black Aerodyne Jazz).

Are you gonna be... grrrrrr.... my girl

Well if someone can come up with another suggestion, I'm happy to give it a go! That said, no-one apart from you will notice anyway. We've altered the ending to make it slightly easier to all finish together, but no-one notices. -

The way I play it is to hammer on the G and C and pluck the preceeding open string E and A. I don't think that's the difficult bit, though. For me it's the right hand to get the swing beat. (I'm assuming we're talking about the intro, of course!) -

The pressure was too much! I went into PMT and did a deal on one. Teensy bit annoyed that I didn't notice I need speaker cables to connect to my cab until I got home. There's no phono option. Back into Norwich tomorrow morning, then. By the way, if you went into PMT to get hold of a Terror Bass today, sorry. I called my local branch before I went in, but when I arrived it wasn't on display. When I asked about it, they told me it was out the back because someone had called into another of their shops and had asked for the amp to be shipped there. Waterboarder, thanks for the info. Give flats a go! I bought an Aerodyne last week and an amp this week, so the Jag will have to wait a little while.
I mainly play in a surf band and because the tone is so fat and punchy, I think it really fills the sound out nicely and compliments the thin, twangy guitar sound. We do some punky stuff too, (trying to go for an Agent Orange/Man or Astroman? type sound I guess)...
I've been thinking about getting one of these, but this response sealed it for me! (I thought I would be the only person who had heard of Man or Astoman? on Basschat.) Sorry for the hijack, but what bass do you use for your surf stuff? I tend to use my Jazz with flatwounds, but have been toying with the idea of a Squier Jag for the looks. I have an Ashdown 4x10, so it sounds as if I've struck lucky having a cab that suits the Orange already. Bonus!

Me too, please. (Does it mention the Deptford Boys Choir? I have an EP - probably the only collectable vinyl I have)

Add me as well, please.

This is a very useful thread, so thanks to one and all. I think a black Aero will find itself in my collection very soon.

Fender CIJ Precision '62 Reissue Fiesta Red
hey nice bass indeed - I noticed you've said the bass is MIJ in the title, but it's actually a CIJ in the description and pics - could make a difference in persuading people taking a peek??
Am I being ignorant in not knowing what the difference is? (I looked at the post regardless.) -
I was told it was because they'd become too expensive because the Yen was so strong against the £. Perhaps they'll start bringing them in again if the £ gets strong enough.

They're not imported any more and I can't find one for sale! Unless one suddenly pops up, it'll be the Squier for me.
There are some amazing VM-Jaguars in the works. The colors will slay you. With humbuckers and Active and a lot cheaper than the VMs to date
Red with block markers and matching red headstock? If so, I'll hang on!
New Bass Collection Rickenfakers here??
Saw a couple of these today. I didn't know they made them! They looked the part and felt pretty nice (bit heavy, I thought, but I've only handled a couple of real ones). Are they any good? (Apologies if this has been answered before.) Guitar & Bass magazine really rate Bass Collection's Jazz and Precision copies, but I've not seen a review of these. (Why did the makers choose such a stupid brand name?)

Some useful comments here, thanks. I have the money ready for a nice red Fender Jaguar, but where's one I can buy? I trawled three of Norwich's guitar shops today and none of them have the VM Jag or the VM Jag Special for me to look at. Two of them are happy to order them in, but I have to pay a deposit first. In other words I have to buy before I try! (Mind you, both were cheaper than I could find on the 'net, which is nice, as I'd rather support my local dealers.) On reflection, I reckon my Corvette $$ gives me the full range of sounds (or even the Variax, come to that) for recoding. I do confess to being a bit of a brand snob, but my experience has taught me that I'm not likely to use all the options (once I've spent a while fiddling to find the tone I like), so paying £200 for the Fender sticker and lots of sounds I won't use, is probably not money well spent. So, it's primarily down to looks. And in that case, there's no contest. The VM Jaguar in black with block markers and a matching black headstock wins hands down for me. Unless anyone knows if Squier is about to launch a red version?

I've been thinking about a Jaguar bass for my surf band. Yes, I know both the Jazz and Precision were around in the early 1960s (and the Jaguar bass wasn't), but what the heck. It seems the choice is: Fender Jaguar for around £400 (if/when one comes up secondhand) Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar for around £280 (passive) only in black but with the block markers Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Special for around £200 (active) in red, black, sunburst and white, but with dot markers Have you played any/all of them? Would you care to compare them, please? I've tried the Squier VM passive one, but not the other two. Thanks

Me too, please. I've always got a couple of books on the go and my list of books to read is rapidly shrinking.

First time I've been on my PC since Sunday! Thanks to everyone for a great day. Let's get the next one in the calendar soon. I went from the Bas Bash to band practice and I think the two guitarists in my band were a bit miffed that we hadn't spent the day talking about how "our" guitarists wind us up. They're not used to not being the centre of attention! Note to self: Next time, bring some stands. And a name badge. I've forgotten everyone's name too, atlhough I do have a couple of names scribbled on a bit of paper. Dave.C - Thanks again for the flats. I'll let you know as soon as I've fitted them.
