Anyone know what all the switches do?
On the top horn one switch controls whether it's active or passive. The two rollers near it are bass and treble boost. The three swicthes at the bottom switch each pickup on or off and the thrd one switches them between series and parallel. The two "normal" knobs are volume and tone. ...I seem to remember. Fender sent me a diagram (pdf), which I could upload if I knew how.
Those first gen. CAR w/matching head stocks were brilliant looking. Any one here have one?
Like this?

Borrow an orange bass terror for bank hols weekend?
Jacqueslemac replied to Cairobill's topic in Amps and Cabs
Mine was one of the first ones and it failed well out of warranty too. Orange replaced it with a brand new one, completely free. PMT in Norwich didn't charge me for handling it either. -
We're pretty lucky in Norwich. There's a PMT, an independent called Supatone (owned by a bassist, so there's always lots of choice), a music-specific Cash Converters (not much choice there nowadays, though), Cookes, which has been around so long my parents' piano (bought well over 50 years ago) has their name on it and a couple of other, smaller shops dealing in guitars. Most of my basses have been bought through this site (although I've bought at least one from each of the shops) and, mostly, when I visit any of them it's to have a look what they have in stock, rather than to buy anything. Despite that, all of them are friendly (the lady in Supatone has made me a cup of tea if I walk in and she's making one). Maybe as we have such a lot of choice they have to work harder to attract customers.

Another excuse to post two of mine: No idea when either were manufactured, but the Jaguar was from the first run (Fender didn't have matching headstocks on the second run). Both are stock.
Was thinking that by putting on Black Tapewounds, everything would sound like that but actually the different modelled sounds will transform the Tapewound sound to P Bass, Jazz Bass, Fretless Bass etc...won't they?
Yes. I put flats on mine and it made no discernible difference. the processor overrides it.

Thanks for this thread. I've been thinking about doing something similar to my Variax, but haven't had the courage.

Thank you! Any excuse for another pic: With its sister for a bit of contrast:
... no fret-markers in a fairly energetic punk band, wrong-notes-waiting-to-happen that was - for me anyway.
I'm always intrigued by this. I mainly play Warwicks (with only the side fret dots, like the Aerodyne) and never noticed the lack. When I'm playing, I'd have to crane my neck quite a bit to be able to see the front of the fingerboard. I definitely need the dots to know where I am (above the fifth fret anyway), but the side dots are the only ones I can see anyway.
-
I'm playing mine a lot at the moment. They're light and, with the rolled edges to the fingerboard, the neck is very smooth and comfortable. With the dark fingerboard and no front fret markers, the matching black all over looks great. Sounds and tone are very personal. Some people reckon the Precision pickups don't make it sound exactly like a Precision while the Jazz one at the bridge doesn't make it sound exactly like a Jazz, but I've no complaints.

Thanks. I have never got on with reading magazines on my iPad, but I'll give it another go. -
The "it's on the telly right now" music related thread
Good idea, but I'd rather have separate threads about different programmes. If the name of a band you like catches your eye you 're more likely too see it than if you're wading through a long thread about lots of different programmes. And if 2 things are on at the same time you can talk to other people about just the programme you're watching.
I'd rather it was all in one thread. I've subscribed to the thread so will get an email notification (on my phone) when someone posts. When they're in separate threads I only see them when I log in on my Mac, which is usually well after the programme has finished. -

NOT The biggest secret in the music industry
Jacqueslemac replied to SteveK's topic in General Discussion
I've just read Wilko Johnson's autobiography. As he wrote all Dr Feelgood's songs, he made far more money than the rest of the band. His lawyer was actually in the process of drawing up a fresh agreement so the other members of the band could share the profits (he felt they'd added bits and pieces here and there and it was only right that they should get some benefit) when they sacked him. He instructed his lawyer to leave things as they were, and I can't say I blame him. -

It's easy. Anyone who wants to read it posts their name in the thread. Then, when the person who has it has finished it, they post in the thread. The next person on the list sends a PM with their name and address. The book is sent to them free of charge, on the understanding that when it's their turn to pass it on, they pay the postage.
