  1. Both routes done and pickguard drawn on tracing paper, going to attempt cutting it with a Dremel 😱
  2. First pickup route done, just needs a bit of tweaking. Just used a drill and chisel for this as it's a simple shape for the soapbar
  3. Now selling as a husk without the pickups - £150
  4. Bridge fitted, still haven't found an emg for the right price
  5. Is there any scope for you to steer the sound? As a spotty teen I was roped into an indie band and ended up pushing us towards a more groove oriented sound which really pushed us forward (I was kicked out a year later and replaced by a guitarist who was given a bass) 😂
  6. Nope just leaving it as is, headstock will be gloss black
  7. Neck fit check, nice and snug
  8. A few coats of poly lacquer! On the lookout for an emg soapbar/mm/tb pickup 🤔
  9. Not as dramatic but I'm happy with the contrast 👍
  10. Neck pocket cut, mixture of plunge router and chisel for the details. Headstock also shaped with a rasp
  11. Always up for some jolly cooperation
  12. Played a wedding at a stunning venue, first outing of my latest bass that was kindly built for me by a colleague who builds furniture in his spare time (any resemblance to other basses is purely coincidental or a result of a series of router slips)
  13. Im hoping the different density of mahogany Vs pine will give it that!
  14. Lately I've found myself re-interested in woodwork after taking a long break, which came just at the right time as I picked up a botched/abandoned sg guitar project off eBay for peanuts. The plan - route a central channel to get rid of the off centre neck pocket and pickup route, fill with a strip of pine, re route for a 30" neck and new pickups/bridge. Finally to stain red in the classic style.
  15. It's worth mentioning that the nature of social media algorithms and confirmation bias that nowadays everyone believes their views are the correct ones (yes, even yours! 😲) Platforms are designed this way to maintain your attention to drive clicks/engagement/ad revenue. Everything must be boiled down to a binary choice (hence not partaking in discussion lumps you in with whatever side)
  16. It's perfectly normal to have a few butterflies, it just means you care! It sounds like a wonderful endeavour what you are doing so I would expect the audience to be in good spirits and supportive - go out there and make the most of it! Or answer b - Guinness
  17. I'm hoping that this community will refrain from judgement and support my bravery for openly admitting that one of my bandmates likes Coldplay
  18. Thank you! I'll have a go
  19. Bit of a long shot but has anyone used the various cheap preamps available on eBay/Amazon? Bought one with good reviews but it came with no wiring diagram so I am at a loss!
  20. From an original music stand point does it really matter? Streaming has already ended the album/single sales business model. There is money to be made with touring/merch/interactive services like patreon etc that bands are turning to of they want to pursue music as a career. There is however catastrophic consequences for SFX/Foley artists, background music etc. These industries will go the way of graphic design as studios will always value profits over people Even in my day job working in manufacturing I see more and more ai tools coming in to replace various roles, admin/planning etc It's sad to see but the monkey is out of the bottle now!
  21. First week back after a 2 month break due to holidays and other commitments! Felt good to play again as I've not had the time at home to pick my bass up mostly due to my daughter learning to walk (10 months 🙃) Everyone got on well and had learnt the required material, very enjoyable
  22. Other than learning songs for gigs, for the last 3/4 months on my journeys I have been listening exclusively to the Blindboy Podcast - incredibly varied, interesting and entertaining human being
  23. Beware of the foamy grip material on cheap hangers, it can perish in a short space of time and get very stubborn gunk stuck to the necks! Unfortunately speaking from experience
