Basses you sometimes regret selling!
Bass4real replied to Yorkshire Bottom End's topic in Gear Gallery
Well now in the early 80s I owned an Electra MPC OUTLAW BASS and a KRAMER XL8 8 stringer I don't regret selling them. I regret trusting a coke head drummer I was jamming with and left both basses where we were practicing. The next day both my basses were gone never to be seen again. That human garbage got exactly what he deserved. I do regret selling these BASS guitar 1) my SPECTOR NS - 95 2) my HOHNER the JACK headless bass 3) my 71 fretless P bass , I bought it for 50.00 but sold it for alot more , Im talking A LOT MORE 4) my Tobias Growler 5 string 5) my TOBIAS TOBY 5 str. I could go on and on but won't I wish I never sold any of my past basses I actually still think about them often And miss them all like I miss the friends of my youth. : ?( -
I'm okay with setting up any bass I buy , I did buy a new PEAVEY cirrus tiger eye 5 string in 2004 . When I got it I tried to tune it up I tried and I failed I never saw anything like it I never even thought about buying a new bass , and getting it delivered with a broken truss rod. I got my money back and bought a PEAVEY Grind 5 string. that was a monster BASS guitar I loved it. I don't think a broken truss rod will ever happen again Thanks for your reply I'll let ya know when I get the HB

They do look badass BUT you probably know what I'm going to say I don't care about looks really Then again If A Bass looked like a worn out car tire But it sounded great I wouldn't buy it : ?)

I'm an IBANEZ BTB bass player It doesn't remind me of an IBANEZ that's one of the reasons I like it. I have a single cutaway 5str , I like the BADDASS look of a single cutaway. I like any bass that doesn't look have a fender body style. Thats me . Nothing against fender, I think there are way too many basses made in that body style

Honestly I don't care about weight , long or short scale neck , how many strings . I play a 4 , 5 , 6 right now , I've owned and played an 8 and 12 stringer yrs ago I do care about the pickups , the bridge, and what strings I put on. And how it plays of course. If it's a $100.00 bass guitar or a bass costing thousands. In my hands I can make it sound good most of the time anyway. There are some basses that are good for only 1 thing a FIRE. : ?) Thanks for your reply Have a good one !

Well I graduated high school at 18 yrs old So in 8th grade I was 14 yrs old High school can start in 9th grade or 10th Depending on the school My high school was a 9th through 12th grade graduation. But I've heard about children obviously highly intelligent for their age being 12yrs old graduating high school . In the U.S. I don't think a childs age and the grade their in is set in stone. I do know when I was in school, I got an actual education. I'm really glad I was expected to use my brain . Computer, cell phone, social Media, didn't exist when I was in school. Thank God :?)

Oops my 4th time Not my 3rd
-
Well I ordered 1 about a week ago. I'm not gonna lie. I'm don't like buying a bass without seeing it playing it hearing it FIRST. This is the 3rd time I've bought a BASS sight unseen, hearing unheard, unplayed 1st time I bought a BASS online was a 1998 used TOBIAS GROWLER 5 str, when I received it, the box was damaged, and when I got the bass out of the box , the body was obviously damaged during shipment , I kept it though . Sold it a year later. 2nd time I ordered an IBANEZ bTb 846v custom shop from Music go round. They sent me an IBANEZ bTb 745 with half of the serial number missing , the bridges were replaced and the bridge that was put on damaged the wood that held the monorail bridges . They sent me an obvious stolen bass they bought ( illegal as hell) and then tried to deny it . I got my money refunded in full and they said to keep the bass , AFTER I threatened to sue the hell out of them . I paid for the Bass repairs costing $400.00 It took 8 months to be repaired . MY advice "Don't ever buy from MUSIC GO ROUND" 3rd time - I got one of the best basses I've ever had. My Brice FREAKOUT 5. I only paid $399.00 for it brand new. My first single cutaway 5str. . Your right about the body of single cutaway basses there's alot of it and my Brice is a little bottom heavy but for me the weight of a Bass doesn't mean a thing to me, within reason anyway. I ordered the Harley Benton msb-5 About a week ago . I have a real good feeling about this bass. I've read it supposedly aimed at the beginner Bass player. WTF is that supposed to mean . It's not a good enough BASS for anyone but a beginner . That is pure BS when I get it , I'm going to tell everyone what it's like.

I'm liking your reply , I'm just the kind of person and BASS player that for most of my life did whatever I thought would separate my Bass playing from being known as just another BASS PLAYER . I was just that I let guitar players tell me what to play, drummers that thought I should play bass like every other bass player we knew. When in a band I wouldn't be a " typical bass player" that is something I never said, but I've had it said to me. WTF is a typical bass player. I would be told to stay in the back next to the drummer, turn it down , don't play so many notes by obnoxious musicians not liking when a Bass player was not gonna be their personal lump of clay . to mold into the typical bass player. Anyway I feel the same , I learned and still do , something different , something new every time I pick up a BASS , which is pretty much every day I will never stop trying to get better , I don't think any musician ever thinks they are as good as their ever gonna get. If someone actually believes that , well they are not a musician or won't be for much longer. I don't think lessons are a bad thing , and I only speak about my personal experiences of being self taught . I know it's the work I put in , not someone else's part time job that made me a real bass player . Thanks for your reply I appreciate ya

Exactly I always say Be an INNOVATION NOT an IMITATION Be an innovator Instead of an imitator I actually taught Bass lessons for a guitar shop years ago. I know what I know not what someone else knows about bass I was just teaching students my particular way of playing , NOT to be themselves first and foremost, and their becoming a better original bass player will happen without my lesson .
-
Honestly I never thought about a style I just played what I played Until I was playing for about 5 yrs.and I started to jam with a really good guitar and drummer , and I had a hard time playing Bass to their originals because I had no idea what kind of Bass player I was because I learned Bass mostly from playing any song I could actually play to , you name the genre , I tried learning it. I could kinda play alot of different music. I just couldn't play anything that wasn't already done. I stopped practicing and playing other bass players and that's how I started to play and concentrate on my bass playing . Not every other bass player. I'm really glad I did that when I was still a young beginning bassist. I have nothing against anyone taking Bass lessons or anyone that Teaches Bass lessons . I don't regret not ever taking lessons. I'm absolutely sure I would not be the same bass player I am today if I did. Not better , not worse ,just a different bass player.
-
I agree with ya mikebass I know lessons wouldn't take anything away from my style I actually taught Bass lessons a few years ago I had 10 students from 13 to 52 . I was learning as well as teaching. That's when I noticed I was just showing them how I did things , Why I did it that way .I was teaching them to play things like me. Not purposely of course. But I was doing just that. At this point of my playing bass , Lessons would have a profound impact on my playing , no matter good or bad impact. I'm to stuck in my ways BUT My being stuck in my ways is great place to be stuck, If you know what I mean. Thanks for your reply Mike I appreciate it

I've been playing Bass for most of my life And will until my heart stops , I will have a Bass over my shoulder when it does. I've never not once took a Bass lesson , I believed and pretty much still do to this very day , if I took Bass lessons I would develop a style that was someone else's (Bass teacher) and not even realize it . I taught myself with my personal experiences joining bands , starting bands recording original music , I I've been in alot of bands most were original music and 2 cover bands , I never liked playing another bands music. NOT that there is anything wrong with playing cover songs live . It just wasn't for me. I'm the only person that could teach me and show me how to become the Best Bassist I know. I've been that exact thing for about 30 + yrs. I'm honestly not being conceited I do truth , My style, technique, technicality was taught and learned by myself and me only, my technical playing, is self taught . I'm going to learn more and play something different everyday . I understand that certain rules should be followed in life more than music. In music I have a passion for avoiding but not ignoring " the correct way " the correct way for me isn't the same for other bass players. DON'T BE AN IMITATION BE AN INSPIRATION IN LIFE AND THE BASS GUITAR : ? )

An IBANEZ bTb 5 string
A PEAVEY FOUNDATION 5
A Brice FREAK 5 string
A BUGERA amp
A Crate amp
A Boss multi effect

Through both amps .

I've been up and down the number of strings on a bass in my time - mostly back onto 4 string now (and usually precisions!).
My other main basses are Kala Uke basses, which give a great sound in acoustic band settings, although I've just bought myself a Martin short scale acoustic bass as well.
Main amp for the acoustic music is a Phil Jones double 4 - my 'big' rig is an Orange Terror 500 head and a pair of orange isobaric cabs.

I'm aware of this , Fujigen Is just 1 of IBANEZs Japanese factories that make Ibanez higher end basses like premium ( (Indonesia ). and prestige bTb series( Fujigen ) basses. CORT actually does produce the majority of bTb basses at more affordable prices . But IBANEZ - Hoshino Gakki is the parent co. They do all design , some production , distribution, Cort manufactures IBANEZ BTB basses to IBANEZ designes, exact IBANEZ specs., this is common for Many Big name brands of guitars and bass guitars , amplifiers , effects ,you name it Cars , furniture , televisions , clothes. Im not saying you're wrong, but only half right about IBANEZ. RONDO MUSIC rebranded and acquired the rights for the Brice line from Ibanez who acquired the rights from BRICE GUITARS . So my Brice Bass wasn't made by IBANEZ it was redesigned by IBANEZ before rondo acquired the line it wasn'tmade by , or designed by Rondo music RONDO MUSIC actually had CORT do production at the same factory IBANEZ uses. and on and on and on. Practically All of Brand named products do the same. And try their best to hide this , I call it , (bullshit) they call it good business it's all about increasing profit. Which has nothing to do with being honest to customers. But all of what I told you was told to me by IBANEZ HOSHINO management. Who were %100 honest One of the main reasons Ibanez is my favorite Bass, I like the truth and those who speak it . Have a good one M.D and prowla -
I'm a die hard IBANEZ bTb Bass player for years. in my opinion IBANEZ BASS GUITARS , not every model though , I'm talking premium series , custom shop models , sdgr , and prestige series, being best of the best. I bought a Brice FREAKOUT 535 single cutaway bass in 2018 . It's a great bass guitar and for the money I paid $399.00 it's even greater. 2 days ago I was just browsing Bass guitars online , I do alot of research on and before I choose a new bass . My Brice is the only bass I ever bought without holding and playing it first. Honestly it is a monster BASS in every way basses costing 10× more. I've never understood why this bass is, for the money I paid for it one of the best basses I've ever owned , and I've owned alot of high end , Big money basses and also got rid of most all of them in under a year after buying them. My Brice FREAKOUT 5 is still with me sounding and playing as good 7 yrs later as the first day I got it . It was designed by IBANEZ to be sold as an IBANEZ , But before that happened , IBANEZ sold the rights to RONDO MUSIC then rondo music after a few years just stopped making , I think , all the basses they sold on their website All Brice basses disappeared from RONDO ? All models of BRICE BASS guitars are not being made anymore RONDO MUSIC acquired the rights to an absolute big money maker Bass guitars. Sold the Brice bass line for next to nothing. Took the money and ran My Brice FREAKOUT 535 is an actual IBANEZ design from top to bottom. It's gonna be regarded as a rare bass in the the not too distant future and its value will No doubt go through the roof Maybe I'll sell it NOT

DREAM THEATER Finally

The first song I played at the first live show with the first band I was in ( AFTERSHOKK) was DETROIT ROCK CITY - ki§§ Damn that was a long time ago I joined AFTERSHOKK 2 weeks before my first show with them I was playing my KRAMER XL8 bass I had 10 days to learn 35 cover songs , most I never heard before and 5 originals. I pulled it off and to this day It's hard for me to believe I learned every song and we played every fkn song 4 10 song sets . I thought I was gonna f*** up alot of those songs . I'm still proud of myself I didn't miss a damn note. I don't think I could learn 40 songs in a month let alone 2 weeks now. Maybe if I was hired by a great band and paid good money. Maybe :?)

I'm a Philly METALhead through and thru. And I have always be a fan of that song
-
I liked that song from the first time I heard it Great song , and kick ass bass line, Thanks for reminding me I'm gonna go play it right now , I haven't heard it for years
