Generally speaking I don't like bass solos. And this track is not exactly a "solo" anyway...

I'm not such a huge Yes fan, but I definitely agree on Clockwork Angels. Rush are, and have been for 40 years, my favourite band - but their last offering just gives me a headache two tracks in (even if played on random). It's the production more than the actual playing, and I wish they would remaster it like they did with Vapour Trials, but until that day comes i don't think I will ever be able to listen to it all the way through. Give me Caress of Steel or farewell to Kings any day!

Awesome! I'd almost forgotten about Troublefunk. Big Tony Fisher has a massive voice and a huge tone... might have to listen to some of their stuff tonight Saw them at Brixton Academy, but never in a library!

Good advice. Change both at the same time and you will never know which one was the problem. I had a TH500 for a while and found it a bit "dark" (i.e. lacking in real top end). I was also running it with a Barefaced cab (and old Big One) and the combination was not great. As others have said, if you like the Orange - get one! It might be perfect with the BF cab

Kind of building a "Berlin wall"...

Late seventies-early nineties post-punk/pop/new wave*. Easy * that's just the covers!

And of course, when you inevitably sell it on here, you can claim that it "plays like buttercream"...

I was just going to suggest that! I've certainly gigged a Squier Affinity P (although I did change the pickups after a while...).

Removing neck finish from 80's G&L L2000 - affect the value
Conan replied to BassApprentice's topic in Bass Guitars
What chris_b said. If you want to keep it, do whatever you want. However, I'm not sure G&Ls will ever reach the value of Fenders from the same era... no idea why, as they are great basses! -
I did. I agree that £400 is a bit steep - but if that example is as pristine as they say it is, then it could still be a reasonable buy. A good, playable bass, well made, from decent components. I don't think £400 is too over the top for that. Of course, if you can get one for less than that, so much the better!

A bit unfair IMO. I recently "came by" one. It was in terrible condition superficially, but I spent some time restoring it and was really impressed! The hardware was top-notch (solid brass bridge for instance, Tokai Hard Puncher pickup...) and it played very well - definite a P-bass sound. The one I had was very light at less than 8.5 pounds, although there was a degree of neck heaviness that a decent strap easily coped with. If it wasn't for the fact that I already had five basses I would have happily kept and gigged it (especially in my 80s covers band!). I sold it on here (for £200 as it happens, so clearly I am a rip-off merchant ). The buyer seemed very happy to pay that much. Yes, they were cheap at the time (around £100 for the passive Thunder 1) - but then what did a "decent" bass cost back in the mid 1980s? My Status series II was £1300, but what did a Fender J or P go for?

Basschat feedback / buying & selling / the people on this forum
Conan replied to dodge_bass's topic in General Discussion
This. +100!!! I have never, in nearly ten years on here, had a bad experience with buying, selling or trading. Wish I could say the same for FB groups... -

My feeling is that things need to be discussed. The very fact that the OP has posted this on here for advice shows that he is not happy with the situation. Air your grievances. If you don't get satisfaction then either you have to put up with it or leave. If it causes you stress then it is not worth staying IMO. Weigh up the benefits of being in the band versus the costs (financial and personal).

Happy to accept advice on pricing. An equivalent bass would cost around 1200 Euros, which is well over a grand. https://public-peace.de/bass-guitars/maruszczyk/elwood/4-string This example is virtually brand new - truly mint condition. Plays great and sounds great. Looks pretty good too! I'm happy to keep it of course, as I just don't need three J basses...

No need to get all sensible on us!! Only kidding. If you ever tire of your band, could you put in a good word for me please? It sounds like heaven...
