I know. What I meant was, if the band cancelled the rescheduled gig because the OP couldn't do it...
-
In hindsight, and having re-read the OP, I'm not so sure. Maybe I'm starting to see it a bit from their side. And surely cancelling the gig would also "cheapen the brand". Do you really have a "brand" at this stage?
-
On the other hand, I do agree with this
-
Really? If it "happens all the time", how come so many of the responses on here (presumably from people who are band members) seem to indicate the opposite? Usually a "band" is just that - a group of individuals working together towards a common, shared purpose. Most people here seem to agree that getting a dep in would have been an acceptable solution, but not the way that it has been handled.
-
Very strange and rather dodgy IMO. Better off without them I suspect. Lesson learned and all that. They seem like an untrustworthy bunch, and I think trust is important in a band.
-
OK, I won't then... But that is what I was thinking
-
I'm not currently in a covers band (despite having spent the last 18 months trying to form one and get it off the ground!), and although I don't have much time for going to other band's gigs - yes, I would go to see us. If we ever get gigging that is...

Not "best" maybe, but my J&D jazz sounds at least as good as many Fenders I have played and/or owned. Still a very giggable bass (admittedly with replacement Tonerider pickups). But as the best tone I've had was from my Status series II, no.

Totally unpredictable! Sometimes you can play a supposedly great venue which has an excellent reputation, and it just doesn't work out. Could be the band members, the audience, the equipment... On the other hand, you can end up playing somewhere that nobody really wants to play, maybe on a bad night (weather-wise, or a clash with some big event...) and everything just comes together to make an outstanding time! For me, it is not about money (although that is not to say that I don't want or need to be paid!), but the enjoyment comes from the buzz. Where does the buzz come from? Well, usually rapport with your bandmates and playing the songs well, a receptive audience who are genuinely enjoying themselves, a good sounding room with plenty of feedback (of the right kind!), an appreciative venue owner/manager, good lighting, the correct temperature.... I could go on, but it is very difficult to quantify. Mostly, I think, it is about the audience. The problem is, if you turn up expecting all that - it rarely happens. Most of my "great" gigs have been surprises!

Only six months old. Absolutely unmarked. Due to my rather frustrating current band situation it hasn't been gigged, and only used at rehearsal about 8 times... Plays like a dream! Does all the usual Jazz bass stuff, which is no surprise as this is basically their take on the Fender Jazz bass - but generally using higher quality components and finished to a higher standard. But most of you who know about this brand already know this of course. Neck is 38mm at the nut, and feels just like a nice J should - not too chunky and not too slim. Made from maple, with black blocks. "Satin" finish, which is very reminiscent of the Fender Geddy Lee J basses I have owned. Make the neck very "fast" and comfortable to play. Body is alder. Pickups are Delano, as is the 3-band active preamp. Bridge is an in-house model, rather like a Hipshot A-style in design. Matching headstock (as you can obviously see in the photos). Speaking of the photos, these are not very good but I've put this ad up in a hurry and will take some better ones when I get time... Weight (mass!) is 9.5lb (about 4.3kg), which surprised me as this bass does not feel heavy! Comfortably solid and beautifully balanced, yes. Comes in a gorgeous Maruszczyk padded gig bag. I am happy to package it up securely for shipping (at buyer's cost and risk) but would be happier with collection. I will also deliver it locally (if mutually convenient, within a 30 mile or so radius of Newcastle upon Tyne, or anywhere along the A69/A75 corridor) for fuel costs. I have lots of positive feedback, so buy with confidence! Ideally after cash, but I could be interested in trades as long as it doesn't involve me having to add any cash. Just four-string bass guitars though - and most interested in Fender Jazzes, G&L M2000s or EBMM Sterlings. Try me!

In an original band?! I'm intrigued. Any links to some of their stuff? I'd quite like to hear that How much does the bassist's style influence the sound and feel of the band? If the answer is "quite a lot", then I think it would be a good idea to sound as much like him as you can, whilst still being yourself of course

Hmmm... bit of a minefield that one! Many couriers offer "insurance" and are happy to take payment for it - but when you read the small print it usually doesn't cover musical instruments! That said, I've shipped dozens of amps, cabs and basses over the years and never (yet) had an issue (touch wood!!). If you have something to ship it in, I might well be interested (and so, I suspect, would many others!)
