The voting options are two one-dimensional. I think they are both good and bad. Here's what I think. Pros: Great sounding cabs (to a lot of people) Light and portable Cons: Some question marks over quality of product Expensive for what they are Some question marks about customer service Some question marks about supply chain
Fair enough. Would that not be option 4? I tried my best...

So far, apart from the one vote for option 1 (which I assume was Alex Claber or someone taking the piss ), the results are going pretty much as I suspected they would
Why exactly are you doing this?
Jack's post pretty much hits the nail on the head. I like to think that I am pretty open-minded about things, and that includes bass gear. I have been pleasantly surprised by some cheap stuff in the past (Fender MIM Jazz, Squier Affinity P bass, Hartke LH500 for example) and disappointed by some higher-end gear (Alembic Epic, Spector EuroLX...). But I have never experienced the reactions that BF products seem to engender in (some) people, I am genuinely baffled by the vitriol. Equally, some of the hagiography gets wearing too. The way I see it, BF cabs (or the ones I have tried/owned at least) offer some significant advantages for some users. Yes, they have drawbacks but most owners are fairly sanguine about these. It doesn't mean that we all want to bear Alex Claber's love children - just that we are a bit more realistic in our expectations of a company that are trying to come up with some new answers to the age-old problems of tonal quality, weight, size and cost. The criticisms are, of course, valid if people have actually tried the cabs - but some of the most vocal critics admit to not having owned or even used a BF cab. That I find odd. So yes, some numbers would be interesting. And yes, it is a bit of fun/silliness too. And, like all polls, it is only any use if people participate honestly. No ulterior motives though - I promise!
What are your feelings about BF cabs?
At whom is that question directed?
What about - Ive tried a few (Vintage, Compact and the the midget), not BAD cabs but nowhere near worth the cost. Much prefer my Ampeg and my old Hartke AK
I guess that would be option five... which, to be fair, doesn't specifically refer to their cost.
I've always used RS 66s on my Jazz... super.
Me too! I get there after a long journey that involved D'Addarios, Elites, Newtones, DRs, Fenders and several others that left little impression. That said, I do like my strings bright and zingy!

Oh - I thought this was going to be another Barefaced thread... But isn't the main problem the "30" in the name? Is 30 watts ever going to be enough (assuming the rating is accurate) to manage a decent gig? I'd have thought not...

You clearly have a very high opinion of yourself and make yourself very happy. I'm pleased for you. Which makes two of us I guess...
I now have a (sadly out of production) EAD Foundation 212
Sadly indeed. I'd love one of those... I suspect that many cabs would sound a bit rough in comparison (to what I've read/heard).
You don't need to be a TV chef to complain that your steak's burnt. Anyway, EBS was speaking as a consumer and so is perfectly well qualified to express an opinion.
It wasn't EBS freak that this post was addressed to. It was Toasted. Like the steak. BTW, some people like their steak "well done" - which is what I would regard as "burnt"!!
The only people that are screaming out in these threads, are the people that own them.
Bollocks. No offence of course! Interestingly, I recently bought one of those Genz Benz cabs that were reduced. I was not particularly impressed, but when I voiced these opinions I was more or less told that my expectations were too high and that it was good enough for everone else. Odd attitude. But maybe some of the BF owners are guilty of the same. Why do we get so protective of our gear?
I only meant I see the argument starting again, I have never contributed to any of them, I have my opinion but I accept and tolerate others. I have never seen so much bad talk about a brand, some very nasty comments....and having recently tried two of their cabs I understand it even less.
Me neither. I can only assume that jealousy must play a part? No idea why though. Maybe all these other "experts" wish they had spotted a gap in the market and filled it (at least partly) with products that they had designed and made. Nobody ever claimed that BF cabs were perfect - but they do what they do very well IMO. That said, I was very impressed with the TKS cabs I tried last night... but in some rather unexpected ways!
....and here we go again

Let's not degenerate into another BF lovers vs haters thread
Too late. They can't help it. Even though they hate BF products and BF users (but have nothing invested in it and in many cases have never used a BF product), the same old nay-sayers have nothing better to do that poke their noses into threads that mention the dreaded word and pour their scorn all over them. It helps the long winter nights pass I suppose...
I wouldn't go for a bi-amp sub-bass rig myself. Decent enough concept, but doesn't achieve anything useful, IMO. The sound may be ok in itself...but you don't want sub bass on stage. You end up carrying twice the kit for the same volume as a fullrange stack which defeats the object of lightweight cabs. And even if I did want to pursue the bi-amp route, I wouldn't use the GK fudge. You'd want a decent pre ( pref with crossover and stereo outs, into a stereo amp and two cabs.) I did this with a 210 and 115 and it wasn't at all bad...but then the double up on the gear kicked in. and the perceived sound gain was in no way worth the carry. And you are contemplating doing it with cabs who best selling point is the light weight... IMO.
Excellent post
There's plenty of people doing it properly already.
Not excellent post

Play it first! I've played a few Affinities and although most are OK, some are outstanding. Get a good one and they are a brilliant platform for modding. The standard pickups are very weak, so I would replace that first. I put a (cheap!) GFS overwound in mine and it sounded great. A Bass Doc 3-ply plate, upgraded pots and I was away. It was my main bass for quite a while. If the neck is good, you can't go wrong! Edit - I see you have already played it. Why don't I read things properly before responding?
