Yes still really annoy me more than i can say.
Certainly the performance on that programme was irritating! What was Steve Howe doing? Pulling his fretting hand off the neck in that ridiculous (look at me) manner?? Git.
The evening got even better at 00:35 when Prog at the BBC began. Genesis, Yes, Emerson, Lake & Palmer... Awesome stuff!
Oh yes! I've watched that on iPlayer another three times since friday! Still don't like Atomic Rooster though...
I found the concert on BBC4, dire and boring, typical overhyped and over produced 80's crap.
Me too. I just can't listen to Floyd without Waters. I just find them dull and anodyne. Gilmour has been churning out the same old solo for 25 years now. While they were all great musicians, Waters was the genius in the band. He and DG made a great foil for each other. Sadly, I find Rog's solo material very hard work too. Floyd, to me, are a classic example of the whole being more than the sum of the parts.
Personally I liked clockwork angels, but I'm not a huge fan of the early stuff.
Personally I'm a huge fan of the early stuff. I don't much like Clockwork Angels. That's the great thing about Rush though. Their career spans such a long time and covers so many styles that it is possible (and quite usual) for people to be fans of a certain era but to not like other periods. I really like the simplicity and honesty of Counterparts. And I love Geddy's tone on the Jazz bass(es). I never cared for his Wal sound or style, with those rubber-band Funkmaster strings. Dog Years is the standout track from this Rush era for me. Top lyrics too.

CDs you dont listen to (Part Two). A solution?

Good idea! We could do the same with basses.... -
Think this has come up a couple of times. Fender are dropping Genz so a big clear out at GAK and Bass Direct
Whatever the reasons, it is a brilliant deal. If I had a spare £400 kicking about I would buy one now. But I don't...
The question we should really be asking is why MIA Fenders are so much more expensive?
Damn right!
-
There are so many Fenders about that if you didn't mod one, it would sound like every other Fender! Nothing wrong (in my eyes) with a bit of customisation. It's your bass, make it yours! The problem comes when people decide to sell their modded bass and want to get back all the cash they spent on modding it. That just doesn't work.
And, it will be outrun, out handled and out everythinged by a decent new 3 Series which would set you back about £25K nowadays. It only looks good. In every other respect, new is better. Just like bass guitars.
True, possibly. But wouldn't the world be a sadder place if everyone only bought new things? Not all new things are "better". They may be more "fit for purpose", but that is only one aspect of how good something is perceived to be.
The best deals at the moment might be a Genz Benz rig. Fender have shut GB down and are selling off all the stock at very good prices. Checkout the deals at Bassdirect and other places.
Have a look at this - http://www.gak.co.uk/en/genz-benz-nx2-212t/89565 I did, and as a result I am trying to sell my BF Compact (which might be a good solution to the OP's problem!).

Immaculate condition. Been in a fitted padded cover since it was bought. No dings, scratches or anything of that sort. Looks brand new. This one has two speakon sockets and the silver grille cloth, so it would cost £590 new (without the shipping). Buying mine will allow you to avoid the waiting times though It also has the (very cool) white piping between the plywood and the silver grille. Not sure this shows up very well in the pics (especially the one with the cover on) Fully run-in, but has never been pushed hard. Mega-light (12kg = 27lbs), mega-loud - and with a great tone too. You know the spec... http://barefacedbass...hp?page=compact More pics available on request, but I am having problems uploading more than two... I'm looking for £450 ono.
This is a big hint. Check GAK's website for the Genz NX2 212T.
Wow! I'm not actually looking for another cab, but that is mighty tempting!
Plenty of those about lately it is a shame too say anyway GLWTS
Cheers. It's bloody annoying to say the least! Good manners cost nothing. If you are no longer interested in buying something, just say so! It's not as if my original post is short on details... It may be a buyer's market at the moment, but that is no reason for (potential) buyers to be lazy and rude
I'm now thinking of looking for Warwick alternatives! Anyone know of any similar sounding basses? I'm specifically looking for that growly tone that the Wicks produce
How about a Spector? And not just because I am (half-heartedly!) trying to sell one.... If you want to have a bit of an experiment but not spend much cash, I've had good results with these before: http://www.guitarfetish.com/GFS-Bass-Guitar-Pickups_c_97.html

Have all the expensive basses been a waste of time?

The value of buying an instrument from a shop
Conan replied to ubassman's topic in General Discussion
when I want to check out rare & exotic (or just plain old expensive) basses I don't go to a shop ... I go to Basschat.
Ooohh.... so basschat is responsible for the death of the music retail shop? I wondered why I was feeling guilty today...
