They are too good to be true IME. Failed to pick up on agreed date and took 6 business days to deliver from Ireland to the UK rather than 2-3 days as advertised on their website. poor, very poor
Bugger. Back to square one then Although hopefully this is not their usual practise...
Some advice ---- basic theory. you can rip through a song... without even thinking. He's just playing basic busy rock runs, it's childsplay.
Could you be just a teensy-weensy bit more patronising?
http://www.fender.co...-neck-profiles/
Yeah, thanks. I know what they are "supposed" to refer to, but I just don't see the similarity to those letters. For example, what is the difference between a D and a U? C and V I get... Anyway - lovely bass and I'd buy it if I had any cash!
He's just playing basic busy rock runs over the chords. If you know the chords, it's childsplay.
Then do you mind posting your own youtube video of the bassline, as it is so easy? There are plenty of inaccurate ones, and some of us (the ones without your knowledge of theory) have been waiting for the definitive version for years!
Some advice -- as long as you try to figure out basslines and make and read tabs, you'll struggle for the rest of your life. What you need to do is understand what chords you're playing over and the notes within those chords and how they correspond to each other. In other words -- basic theory. Learn the modes. Play them up and down and backwards and sideways. Play some jazz standards and walk over the changes. Once you get good at that, you can rip through a song like that Whitesnake tune without even thinking. He's just playing basic busy rock runs over the chords. If you know the chords, it's childsplay. If you try to memorize the runs, it's calculus.
There you go OP. Just learn all that for your next rehearsal and you won't need to ask us about individual songs again!
Something like a Laney DP150 or Trace Elliot AH150 and a Laney 4x10 cab should come in around the £300 mark,
I doubt these would be any lighter than what the OP currently uses (although he doesn't say what that is, other than the fact that it is made by Carlsbro... )
I guess the next step is a matter of finding a guitar shop with a decent range on offer, then going along and plugging in to a few.
Where do you live? You will probably find that there will be a few Basschatters local to you who would be quite happy to give you a try-out of their set-ups. There may even be a "Bass Bash" somewhere near you where you could try out dozens of different rigs! If you are in the North East you are welcome to have a try of mine. What bass do you play and what kind of sound do you usually prefer? Is your band generally loud or "sensible"?! Here are TWO quality speaker cabs (fairly small and manageable) at a fantastic price- http://basschat.co.uk/topic/219172-bfm-omni-2x10-1x10-dorset-bristol-area/ Shouldn't be too difficult to find a reasonable amp head for around £100.
I guess ideally no more than £300, ideally a bit less.
That probably rules out "lightweight" then.

Great minds.... etc. etc! But it is definitely a buyer's market at the moment. Some great deals to be had if you have cash burning a hole in your pocket...
-
How much do you have to spend? Does it need to be a combo? Separates will give you more flexibility... Does it have to be new or would you be happy to look at used gear? How loud do you need to be? Lightweight gear tends to be expensive...
-
TBH for an item worth that much I'd be looking at transporting to the buyer in person.
That is always another option - especially with expensive items.

It's a lot harder than it sounds, isn't it? There are a few on youtube, most are pants. This guy gets reasonably close... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--h05PZwhbY

Generally it is fine to go for the cheapest one.... unless there is a problem! There are loads of people (myself included) who have shipped stuff all over the country and never had a problem. But, there are some people who have had a total nightmare where things have been damaged or not turned up at all. That's where the insurance comes in I guess... I wonder if there is a foolproof way to insure a package? Maybe on house contents of something like that? All the bubblewrap and cardboard in the world won't help you if the package is nicked. There are existing threads on here about couriers and general shipping stuff...
Temptation!
Indeed! Me too. I'm tempted to keep it... but I am also tempted by a number of basses currently for sale! Here is a review of the Doug Wimbish model, which is pretty much identical in spec (apart from the high gloss finish and the slightly different neck profile):

As with most things, there is a compromise and a middle ground. Some people say "I never do set-ups and would far rather pay someone else to do it". Others say "That's daft, there are no special skills involved so do it yourself each and every time". My view is that both are wrong (for me). I do most of my own set-ups, but sometimes there is an issue that I can't (or won't) deal with. Then I call in the Bass Doc! I don't understand why people are arguing over such a trivial thing. If you wanna do it, do it. If not, don't. But I do agree with the OP that a "standard" set-up is a straightforward job that doesn't take much longer than changing a set of strings (unless you've got a headless Status, in which case changing strings takes seconds!).

"Spotify is last desperate fart of a dying corpse." Discuss.
Conan replied to EliasMooseblaster's topic in General Discussion
Well, technically a corpse is already dead - so you can't have (or be) a "dying corpse"... flatulent or otherwise. I've never used Spotify though, so can't comment on that bit. -
