1.
Baer Ml112 sounds huge and growly with the Terror
A Bear that's huge and growly?
 2.
Specialty guitar makers aren't really luthiers
What's a luthier then?
 3.
( I wouldn't buy the cheaper version either ) .
Really? Widely regarded as one of the best basses Fender ever made. I love 'em. Anyway - back OT...
 4. Ordered mine through Amazon. OK, a couple of quid more expensive than Sainsburys Online, but as I already have an account I get free delivery and don't have the ballache of entering all my details... And I now have the MP3 version to listen to on my Cloud Player! Definitely a big improvement. Much clearer and with good separation between the intruments. I used to find VT very challenging and tiring to listen to, but not this new version. Now can they do the same with CA?
 5.
I would be interested to know if other people think it is wrong or ill-advised to buy superior quality, higher cost versions of established designs. the final sound that comes out of a boutique Fender-style bass that costs three grand isn't that different to what you get from one that costs eleven hundred quid ( or less)
http://www.fender.com/en-GB/custom-shop/series/limited-edition/limited-geddy-lee-1972-jazz-bass-maple-fingerboard-black/
 6.
I really have to admire anyone getting a custom made bass
Why? I ask purely out of interest The phrase "a fool and his money are easily parted" springs to mind in most cases. It depends of course...
 7.
I've seen it before, but it still brings a smile.
That's what Mrs C said last night...
 8.
Awww, what happened to the cats eye?
Well, I've heard about the one-eyed trouser snake... and we all know about pussy - but, er.....
 9.
They have really gone down in value since he shot his wife.
Nice work
 10. Spector don't make any bad basses, but they may not be everyone's cup of Lapsang Souchong so try it out if possible. The market is slow at the moment and definitely skewed in favour of buyers, so think carefully as you might end up with a bass that you don't get on with, but struggle to sell on.
 11.
Anything you would recommend?
Date of manufacture is always useful. Weight. Other body woods. Any changes or modifications from the standard SII. Details of the active circuitry and pickups... Status owners tend to know this stuff, but if you want to tempt someone into maybe owning their first Status you might want to give a bit more away!
 12. Where are you based? You might want to include some more information if you are serious about selling this (beautiful) bass!
 13.
Vote of no confidence from me.
I suspected you would say that! Not to belittle your experience (which sounded like a right pain in the arse) there are many more satisfied customers than dissatisfied I suspect.
 14.
Put some thick electrical insulation tape over them. It stops the nasty clacks and pops when the strings touch the pole pieces.
Good tip. I'd forgotten about that. It has the added advantage of making them look (a bit) like EMGs!
 15. Barefaced products seem to divide this forum's members like the Red Sea!! No idea why... I have a Compact. I used to own a Vintage. I have no idea which "g" either of them were or are. IME, there have never been enough BF cabs around to satisfy demand. Whether that is a deliberate marketing strategy is something I am unqualified upon which to comment. Whatever the advances, I have no desire to shift my Compact just to get another Compact. I'd love a super 15, but that's another issue - and I'd happily settle for a g1, g2or g3!!
 16.
are all jazz picks the same
No. But then on some Jazz and jazz-type basses the relative volume of the A and D strings is less than that of the E and G... And Fender make a number of necks with different fingerboard radii... which further complicates the matter! http://www.fender.com/en-GB/support/articles/guitar-neck-radius/
 17.
On hold pending
Ooh! Where's it going?
 18.
Just wondering what kind of music you're finding it not suited to? I have a little spector GAS at the moment and am worried I may find the same thing.
Actually, it's not so much the music as me personally. It is an incredibly versatile instrument (even though my current band mates say they prefer the tone of a Jazz bass as it "fits better" with their music). It's more the ergonomics. The body is small, which looks a bit silly on a big guy. It is the first bass I have played with a curved/shaped body. I can see how this could be a real advantage, but it takes some getting used to! The neck seems very long. On other basses, I am used to the twelfth fret position being roughly underneath the end of the upper horn. On the Spector that position is about the fifteenth fret. I have found this a (minor) problem when I play without looking... Yeah, I know what the obvious solution to this is! The neck is lovely. Very fast and easy to get a stupidly low action. But it is also a bit narrow and deep for my taste. Yes, if it was my only (or even main) bass I would quickly get used to it. But at the moment I tend to play my (borrowed) Mex Jazz as my go-to bass, with the Status a close second when I get bored. As I am only in one band and work full-time, this means that the third bass (Spector) gets far less playing than it would take for me to fully familiarise myself with it. It's an awkward one. I am aware that if I sell it, I am unlikely to be able to afford another one. A lot of music I listen to features a Spector, and they really do have "that tone" when I play it too! It is a beautiful instrument. I sometimes just stop to look at it! Lovely. But if I keep it, it's unlikely that I will ever play it as often as it deserves - and that makes me feel sad. All that, added to the very sluggish market at the moment, means that I would rather hold onto it than sell at a silly price (although I am still open to offers!! ).
 19.
EDIT - just found this quote from Neil: "... two original songs written before I joined the band... Well, why do you think we never recorded them?".
Well, I like them... But they are very much in that blues/rock vein that was a feature of the "original" line up. Clearly their direction with Neil was destined to change. Good job too!
 20.
a lot of the time it sounds like a bass, drums and guitar trio. Lots of qualities they've lacked since, actually....
Sounds like you need a time machine... Actually,I've just been listening to ABC 1974. Now that's a power trio! Gorgeous bass tone too! Did the band ever do studio recorded versions of Garden Road and Fancy Dancer?
 21.
I'll buy the new one, but I do love the 'old' one as well
Of course! Possessing (and listening to) both allows proper comparisons to be made. Some people might even prefer the original release...
 22.
When I hear the words 'active bass' I see 80s bass players with funny hair playing twelve notes a second through a Trace rig which sounds like a shopping trolley full of cutlery falling down an 'up' escalator. But I'm sure it isn't that at all.
I'm loving your imagery, and not entirely disagreeing!
 23.
Has to be passive, I don't like the active sound.
Er..... Out of interest, what exactly do you think of when you talk about the "active sound" that you said you didn't like?
