1. Not one of the more popular choices, but I was very happy with a GFS replacement pickup in my Squier P. The Bass Doc, who fitted for me, was very complimentary regarding it's quality. That's a pretty good recommendation! Great prices too! http://www.guitarfet...ckups_c_97.html
 2.
Different speakers sound different, that's as true of speakers today as it was in the 1070's
Yep. That William the Conqueror made some really great drivers in his day. That Norman can deny.
 3. You couldn't be tempted into a trade at all? Spector do anything for you?
 4. I always wanted a Peavey mk III... but had to make do with the ubiquitous Trace Elliot AH250, 1048 and 1518 stack - circa 1986! In fairness, it sounded great to me then and was loud as hell - but it did look silly in the pubs that made up most of my gigs! I used to hate the load-out...
 5. This sounds like a classic case of an item being worth what someone is prepared to pay for it, but also how much the seller/owner wants to hold on to it. Ask yourself how much this particular bass is worth to you. Also, how much this friendship is worth to you. If you try to lowball your mate, will there be repercussions? Do you care? Does he know as much about basses and their values as you (now) do? All of these factors need to be taken into account, not just a series of estimates and book values.
 6.
Surely that's closer to the heart?
7. Interesting track! Sounds a bit like the Darkness. The overall sound is kind of muffled - like some of the recordings I used to make on low quality cassette recorders from old vinyl! Can't disagree with what the posters above have said. Vocals need to be more to the fore (or at least the lead vocals do). Re-EQ the bass, drums and guitars. Oh and probably the strings too. It definitely has potential though!
 8. LX it is then! Confirmed in an e-mail from the rather excellent P. J. Rubal at Spector: "Please tell all the players at BassChat that I send my best regards, and email me anytime with Spector questions. NB 4273 : indicates made at our Czech factory in 2005. So this would have our first version TonePump circuit inside (2003 - 2008) Correct, no trim pot on the original version, we added that feature in late 2008 to our (current version) TonePump. The woods should be current "LX" : body wings of European alder (back), slice of walnut, and USA maple top."
 9.
It means you liked it, and that's all that matters.
And that, of course!! Sod what anyone else says!
 10. It lacks fullness in the bass and treble parts of the frequency spectrum? If that were the case (which I find hard to believe) then it would have a horrible, nasal, middly tone and be rather limited in usage. I have heard one (well, the four string version anyway) being used by Mariusz Duda of Polish Prog band Riverside - and I certainly wouldn't say that it lacked bass or treble!!
 11.
I got Geddy and Alex's solo albums and thought they were awful.

Victor is a wikid album! Not heard Geddy's apart from the previews in iTunes, they didn't grab me.
Oh well! I think Geddy's "My Favorite (sic) Headache" is a really good album! I also think that some of the songs on there are far better than anything that has appeared on any Rush albums since! Ain't personal taste a great thing?
 12. You might get a bit more interest if you gave a few more details... just sayin'
 13.
Thing is, exactly which Rush would you like them to be? 80's synth rock? Excessive 70's Prog? They've changed so much over their career, and I think that's a good thing. How many people on here are writing the same style of stuff that they used to 30, 10 or even 2 years ago? People change, evolve and develop and their creative output reflects that.
That's cool, and it's certainly true. I think some people just think that they aren't as creative as they used to be.
 14.
Tom Sawyer . That's around 1500 times in 30years.
Hmmm. When you put it like that...
 15.
That's LUSH!!!
Isn't it?
 16.
Don't we all bemoan having to play Mustang Sally? The fans love it but musically we're all so much above it...
True... but would we feel the same if we had actually written Mustang Sally?
 17.
The Spector Euro 4 lx is 34" scale
Cheers for the bump! BTW, this thread contains a bit more info about the bass, and Spectors in general.
 18.
And, on the last album, the producer conducted Neil while he played the parts. FFS.
Yeah, it certainly seems to be the case that modern rock albums reflect the sound of the producer rather than the sound of the band. I guess that has always been true to an extent, but it just seems more so now. Time for a return to Broon?
 19.
I like that ..is it called Antigua?
AKA "mushroom-burst"!!
 20. I bought this bass in May this year, and while playing it has certainly been enjoyable - I'm just not sure that it suits me and/or the music I am currently involved in. Problem is that I sold a very good Jazz bass to fund its purchase - and I am now really wishing that I hadn't done that! Made in 2005 in the Czech Republic (see post #8 below, and hence the "Euro" bit!). Body woods are Alder and Maple, with a Walnut layer in between (hence the "LX" bit). It has a 34" scale length. The TonePump circuit does not have the trim pot facility. Finish is "matte natural". To people who know about Spectors, these details are important! Overall condition is very good for an eight year old bass, but there are three small bits of damage/wear on the body that I have tried to show in the photos. All of these were there when I bought it. There is some thumbnail wear above the P pickup, a small dent on the front and a few dents on the top horn next to the strap button. These are quite difficult to show on photos, but I want to be absolutely clear that they are there! The neck and headstock are immaculate. Oh, I forgot to add... the knobs are from a Marshall combo!! I have the original Spector ones of course, and they will be supplied as well (or replaced if you don't like the new ones). I think the Marshall ones look rather good! http://www.spectorba...NT/Euro4LX.html It is exceptionally easy to play (with a low, buzz-free action) and has a truly massive range of tones available, including passable (if unsubtle) imitations of both P and J basses. The TonePump circuit is very versatile and (although there is some debate as to whether it is boost-only or cut/boost) can produce thundering bass and sparkling, zingy top to add to the growly mid-range always present. It comes with/in a Gator hard case, and I am happy to ship it in or outside of the UK (at buyer's expense of course). I would prefer a cash sale, but I am fairly open-minded about possible trades for other basses (4 string preferred, and Jazz-type ideally!). And if anyone is concerned about my buying/selling pedigree on Basschat, I have feedback here...
 21.
I'm now convinced it's not an L!
Really? I suppose it could be a "Z", but I was pretty sure it was an L. What do you think it might be?
 22.
Thanks Gary. Do you have any suggestions for pup replacement please?
There's a whole new thread in itself!! Expect a lot of different answers on that one... Depends mostly (but not entirely) on budget, but also comes down (like most things) to personal preference. I put a GFS overwound pickup in a Squier P bass that I used to have and was very happy with the result, especially as the pickup only cost about thirty quid - and that included shipping from the US! Some people love "genuine" Fender pickups. Others swear by Seymour Duncans (in their numerous guises). Wizards have a very good rep, but are sadly now defunct as a manufacturer. They can sometimes be found used on here though. There are many other manufacturers ranging in budget from the likes of Wilkinson to the heady heights of Lollar, Nordstrand et al. It is a minefield!!
 23.
Believe me, I've been trying my hardest to find out, but I'm coming up blank so far!
Me too! I even tried Wiki with "bass guitar manufacturers starting with the letter L"! It's starting to frustrate me now... maybe someone on here knows Charles Cave as is aware of which basses he plays? Here's hoping!
 24.
the songs haven't been good for ages
Do we have any theories as to why that might be? The pot of creativity running dry? Years of wealth and celebrity making it difficult to recapture the "hunger" of earlier years? Neil's new life (thousands of miles away) with a new wife and young daughter? Boredom? From what I know of the guys, they love being together and playing together and music is what they do. I fail to believe that this is the end for them. But I would love to think that they might find their lost mojo at some stage...
 25. So I'm guessing that nobody knows then?
