1. When you listen to the clip without watching, it sounds like she is really digging in - yet she seems to have an incredibly light touch!
 2. A friend of mine, who is emigrating to Mexico in a few weeks, has a [s]couple of [/s]saxophone to sell. [s]Both are[/s] made by Earlham (who seem to be a well-respected manufacturer of such things) and have hardly been used at all. [s]They are[/s] It is in excellent condition and comes with the original case, spares, etc. [s]The Alto version is available for £90.[/s] NOW SOLD (not on here) The Soprano sax is a higher spec instrument (Professional series II) and is going for £400. PM me for details.

 4. Sometimes when new members join this forum they actually take the time to do a search of old threads to acquire information about a chosen topic. Typing in a search term such as "Fender" will lead to them finding threads such as this one. They could then learn quite a lot about why some people love them, others hate them, and the majority of us happily concede that they make some great basses but there is a wide variety of other stuff to try. I fail to see the harm in threads like this.
 5.
Until Dad's nudist thread ( ) I'd never really checked out the recordings bit. Now I will as it's amazing to hear what the people we chat with sound like.
Me too! It's fascinating! But, whereas I can type out some banal comment while "busy" doing other things, I can't listen to music - no matter who has composed it. But when I get time to sit down with my pipe and slippers it is indeed very humbling to hear just how talented some of our members are. Well done you guys!! The problem with the voting is that I wouldn't feel able to vote until I'd listened to all of the recordings all the way through - and that takes a significant amount of time. But yes, in reply to the OP, the future of this forum is in peril. Once all the talented composers get busy with their music they will have no time time to popst on here!
 6.
wow i did not expect so many to agree!! ha-ha! Anyway why i thought post the tread was because i was recently in a shop bass direct, a fantastic shop, i went there to look at a mayones or whatever its called on sale at £1300.... but i also half kept looking at the fender usa p bass v deluxe at a great price (not made anymore with the Bill Lawrence P/u near the bridge) .... i seen it a few times on the site over 2 months and Wonder why on earth is that beut still for sale?? its says mint had a good price and was a 5 string ....perfect for me... so i made the trip from Essex, and looked at all the stunning eye candy (but not for long) and picked up the mayonees ... and then put the thing down again after about 2mins playing..it was a heavy bugger and looked like a gem of exotic-ness .. rather too much bordering on tacky even... then went to look at the fender.... that was that... this baby is mine had it a month now great bass... im guessing it did not get that much of a look in at the shop, but to me it was the best thing in there regardless of price tag.., after a jazz 1974 i had a while back, this is probably the best playing bass iv had..i did go to get one many years ago, but it was like £1500 then so i passed on it ....The guy in the shop Mark i think his name is said about my fender its a great bass but the pre amp is naff..and to swap it out... i thought ...what is he talking about? this bass sounds as sweet as a nut! why on earth would i wanna stick in a £300 pre amp .. its not he same fender anymore! with a slap sound out of this world, and punchy finger style why change it? ...ok i know its not the passive fender but hey i can say the same about them too, fantastic.. Reading through the posts on this tread, many have all been there high end basses, trying to squeeze out the sound imbedded in our head from years back... then as said above changing out p/u s n pre amps... (which i never did, i just got rid) only to end up selling the f***er and losing tons of dosh and swapping it back to a 2/3 knob passive bass.... haha.. It is merely my thoughts and experience over many years of playing different beasts... the 70-80s jap basses though like the arias and Yamaha they are very cool too.... they are superb. Do bear in mind its only my personal opinion after 30 years with as many and more, much more even basses i have owned in this time..
If may make a polite suggestion mate...
 7.
Nothing will detract from how good those Fender-esque basses are, especially in terms or weight and quality, but the headstocks?
+1

 9. If you like Fender, and want Fender - then nothing else will do. But not everyone likes and wants the same thing, or it would be a dull world indeed!

 12.
probably the best-sounding bass I've ever tried was a very expensive US Spector... Limit: £300-something used, 200-something would be ideal.
Slightly above your stipulated budget, but a lot of bass for the money: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/191548-fs-spector-legend-5-l325/page__p__2113484__hl__spector__fromsearch__1#entry2113484

 14.
Another vote for the Octavia VRS hatchback, I get loads of comments on how good it looks and driven sensibly it will turn 50+ mpg
Great looking, loads of space and fun to drive, sure - but do you really get that mileage? I think I'm doing well if I get 40 on a long run and 30 around the doors... Is your a diesel?
 15. Jerry Peek-tastic! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73qJPLZxNi0
 16.
I don't think moaning on about is really worth it........is it?
Having read Ped's post - I would be inclined to say no!
 17.
If you would rather sell elsewhere, away from the biggest group of bass players outside the US, that's fine. It's totally up to you...
Conjures up an image...
 18. Do you have a very bass-heavy sound in your EQ settings? If so, try dialing back the bottom end and adding more mids, It will seem louder and the amp will not have to work as hard. Also, a sealed 810 is not very good at reproducing low bass frequencies. If 450 watts through an Ampeg fridge ain't loud enough... Have you had a hearing test?
 19.
The most important thing to remember about the fee was to help with the administration of the site, so ask yourselves what having access to this community is worth to you???
Exactly. I find it incredible that some people are asking about where those funds will be spent - as if they would be happy to pay them if they were being used for some things, but would not pay if "their" money might be used for something of which they disapprove. I just don't get that. If we were talking about hundreds of pounds, fair enough - but £20 a year?
 20.
I'd feel I was doing someone a disservice by passing them on my old strings.
A dead string is better than no string!
 21. Great idea! I've given used strings away on here before, or donated them to my school - but this is another great way to share the love!
 22. The intro to "Heart of Lothian" by Marillion! Mrs C (mk II) was born in Edinburgh... "At church" by Novak during the ceremony - which is ironic as we weren't married "at church" but in my in-laws garden in Fife overlooking the Firth of Forth and Bass Rock The bit from 1.55 on here... 23.
So whereas Basschat would have been my first port of call previously, now I am put off by the fees in view of my comparatively cheap items!!
I admit that I hadn't really thought of that. I guess one decent sale of, say, £500 more than covers the £20 but if all you have to sell is small or inexpensive items (I don't like the word "cheap" as it implies poor quality ) then the fees do seem disproportionately high. I'm still sticking to my view that £20 a year as a membership fee represents good value for all the fun and information available on here. If you see it that way, then the selling becomes free! £20 a year is less than 0.5p per day. How many of us are on here every day? Would you balk at a charge of 0.5p to log on?
 24. I was at the '87 one, and recall travelling down to London on the bus and seeing the devastation of the "Michael Fish" storm... but that's another story! In fact, I have a cassette recording of it somewhere I think! Entwistle was there in 87, as were Rob Burns, Tim Landers, Joe Hubbard, Paul Westwood... all the usual suspects. As it was at the height of Level 42's popularity, everyone was plaing bass like a typist but I do recall some very tasty Goodfellow basses... It's all a bit hazy though
