Yes don't sell it, ever. I've had all from new, 2 compacts, midget and a super twelve T and stupidity made me move them on. And now I'm on my 5 th barefaced and hope I don't get stupid again.
Never mind - your altruism means that many bass players have been able to try Barefaced products at a lower price and without the waiting times! You should be rewarded!
It's certainly good for what it is, but what it is isn't particularly interesting.
Well, it is to me! I think your comment would have benefitted from an "IMO"... That said, I do think that this live "extended" version doesn't actually improve on the studio version of Runnin'. Maybe he used up all his good ideas in that 1:27 or whatever is was?

Trading and selling on Basschat seems to have dramatically declined
Conan replied to cloudburst's topic in General Discussion
I have bought and sold a moderate but significant amount on here in the last few years. When I sell something I make a donation. When I buy something I trust that the seller does this too. In the last few weeks I have bought a bass, sold a bass, traded a cabinet and an effects unit. Not bad for the middle of a recession! I think the amount of trading has increased as it involves less cash changing hands and means people can try other gear when they get bored of their own or fancy a change. I would have paid the £20 just for the privilege of having access to BC! It is a brilliant resource even if you never buy of sell anything IMO. As a paid-up member I can buy, sell or trade to my heart's content. But then I'm a glass-half-full kind of guy... -
Dave margen had a top sound with santana.
Good call! Great P tone - just the right side of "farty"!
Jonas Reingold. This whole track is just... basstastic. I think I want to eat his tone.
Never would have guessed that he was using a Jazz bass on that track! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qf9miOWSL8U
I almost never sell gear on, so the resale value difference doesn't bother me.

Another thing to consider is resale value.

Didn't she win ass of the year recently?
Ah! We have finally morphed into Asschat!
Yip - I'm hangin' on to mine.
I spotted that! Just as well - there have been a few times when I have seriously considered that bass! Still, it will look and sound great the next time you are jamming with your mate Knopfler!

At the time, I was looking for a new cabinet and spotted someone selling a Markbass 610 on eBay. I spoke to him and he recommended this place! His name is Shep (onbass), so you can blame him!!

Not so sure about the new PG... but that is one stunningly gorgeous bass. And I am not normally a big fan of Precisions! Howard is a very clever chappie, and you have excellent taste Mr D!
She must surely have had, er... surgical assistance? I don't remember her tumblers being that hefty.
I think that top would give me a cleavage to be proud of!
I think the used market will become oversaturated with signature models over the next five years (especially high-end stuff; Will Lee, Bob Glaub, Roscoe Beck etc) they'll be discontinued; and then wait another 5 years and that's when you start thinking about selling! Truckstop
I think the Roscoe Becks may be worth a risk... They get excellent reviews, there aren't too many around and they are no longer made, they can be bought very reasonably now. In twenty years time? Hmmmmm...
I get a lot of questions about the avatar picture . It's this maths genius and personal finance expert :
Wow! I thought it looked like her facially, but had no idea she was so, er.... endowed! Anyway - thanks for the info, and sorry for the thread hijack!
raise the pickups so they are closer to the strings (the neck pup seems about 1cm from the strings
That's very low!! As the neck pickup provides most of the "bulk" in the tone, you should get a much "beefier" sound by raising that. Not too close, or the magnetic field of the pickup will pull the string down quite strongly and you will lose sustain. But bringing it down to about 5mm should give you a significant improvement. Be careful reviewing things like pickups on Youtube. The sound you hear will be influenced by so many other factors - the quality of the recording gear that the reviewer uses... the quality of your internet connection... the quality of the speakers you listen to the playback through... You won't necessarily be any further forward. Maybe have a look at this company: http://www.guitarfetish.com/GFS-Bass-Guitar-Pickups_c_97.html I installed one of their hot P pickups in a Squier bass and the sound was really good, for an excellent price. Worth a try if you find the cost of Wizards et al a little daunting!
If you look at these online review sites for restaurants etc. they're nearly all bad reviews, few people take the time to praise good service which is a real shame.
Hear hear!
Anyway, Jazz is heavy man.
That too!

More importantly, who is that is your avatar pic? There is more funk in a J, and funk has mass. It's one of the lesser known laws of physics.
Go for the feel you like in a proper recording environment over the one off performance every time. Studio albums are a pice of work. Live albums are a souvenir.
That is what i was trying to say! Well said Dr Dave!
Take a look at this clip from Rockschool posted here a couple of days ago, particularly from the 13:30 mark
The section from 11.20 is even more relavant to this discussion! Some very cool comments from some real legends in there too, and I'd forgotten what a great player Henry Thomas was/is! Great closing theme tune.

Both if possible... depends on the genre though I think. In livelier, rockier material I think it is better to make your recordings sound more live; but in jazzier or prog material - the added complexity of the recording makes for a very different experience for the listener. I prefer that. Depends on the band and the producer!
It's weird, although I like a fair bit of fusion stuff, this performance doesn't click with me at all. I have some of the RTF stuff with DiMeola on (like Romantic Warrior), and I think the strong compositions and sheer imagination of it make the whole thing work, and I've rarely felt that way about DiMeola solo. I don't mean to diss the performance, but I find it interesting to try and figure out what the thing I like is that's missing here. Maybe you had to be there.
Thanks for saying that. You just saved me five minutes of typing!
I still think its a load of bollocks that you can change your sound drastically by playing" differently"
Really? When other people play my bass (without changing any settings on the guitar or amp) they don't sound like me. The only variable is the "way" they play - so it must be affecting the tone/sound that comes out!
