1. All basses vary slightly - even two from the same manufacturer made with the same materials, so I wouldn't be too surprised at variations. One point though, aren't the pickups in the VM series "Duncan Designed" rather than "proper" SDs? Still decent units, but not quite the same quality as the real thing. There may also be differences in the circuitry (potentiometers and capacitors for example) that might explain some of the differences you have noticed. String brands and ages can make a difference, yes - but not usually as much as pickup height. Lots to consider!
 2.
Would that level of customer service make you more disposed to spend your money with Hiscox in future if you need another case ?
Is that a trick question?
 3.
Taxman has a nice bass line, as shown here:
Isn't that the one they ripped off from The Jam?
 4.
These guys are phenomenal - never heard of them before.
Me neither! Aren't they?! Bass player is incredible, how come I've never heard of him before?
 5. Good read! It is worth noting that the date on the original complaint was 1997 though...
 6. How important is tone to you and your band? If it is very important, then it sounds like you should go for the Yamaha, even if it is less comfortable to play (in the short term). I believe that you can get used to any instrument if you play it long enough, as long as it is decent quality to start with. Would buying the Ibanez be taking the "easy option"? Do you want your life to be easy or slightly challenging? Get the Yamaha!
 7.
I've also discovered they have a regular bassist and were advertising anonymously to try and get someone else in before they fired him.
12.
Fairly sure there are more Vintages about than that, they were pretty popular among people who refused to believe 1 15 could be enough.
Or prefered the width of the cabinet when placing a full-sized amp on top... and the increased height without having to balance it on a stand/beer crate...
 13. For clarity and power on a budget I don't think you can beat the Hartke LH500. Easy to pick up a used one for around £200...
 14. Why don't you make it your mission to own all the Vintage Ts ever made? Now there is a noble calling...
 15.
Now i'll have to go and listened to my James Blunt cds for a re-appraisal of his works. Expect a James Blunt is an underrated genius thread soon.
Stop it!
 16.
Not being keen doesn't lend weight to my argument? That sentence is contradictory.
No it isn't. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean that you are correct in saying that it is crap. Why do these threads always end in arguments at the moment??
 17.
Elricks, too.
John Hall has opened a Spanish factory now??

 20. Laphroaig is more of a pre-gig aperitif IMO.... Asbach brandy, a triple espresso and some nice chocolate for me thank you very much! Lovely pic BTW!
 21.
To me, the whole concept of "my sound" sounds like an alien one.
I agree. The style may sound like you, but most bassists use a number of different "sounds" in every track - they just don't realise it!
